and? Do you think this fwdline is too tall?

Walters - Cox - ******
Apeness - Tabs - Matera

*= Giro, Switta, Rankine or Ian Hill would be nice.

190cm is 6'3.

I was commenting on the fact that Eagles run a very tall forward line and also happen to be sitting comfortably near the top of the ladder. They are a very effective team at scoring and the tall forward line doesn't seem to be hurting them. I think we've tried the smaller forward for little/no success. We have some emerging tall talent on the list, can't hurt to try.
yes, I would prefer a smaller more mobile set up.

Comparing to WC, two of their 4 talls are Mundy sized who we don't even clasify as a tall.

So fingers crossed Apeness can continue stay fit & healthy.
I can't decide what I'm more stoked about,Apeness coming from no where or the stuff Cerra & Brayshaw shown.

Darcy & Apeness paired together could/hopefully have our ruck division sorted for the next decade.

McCarthy and Cox are Mundy sized.
A 4 tall attack of Cox, McCarthy, Apeness and Taberner has the potential to work.

I think comparisons to WC dont really work. Is there another team that plays a resting ruck up fwd? I can't think of one off the top of my head.

Also, they do it out of necessity. NicNat cant play much more than 60% of a game and they can't be at a big disadvantage through the middle for 40% of the game given their mids are probably the worst part of their list.

Can't see our fwdline being more dangerous by adding a third tall to it. Cox, Ape and Tabs are all terrific contested marks so all three is overkill where we'd be better off with another player who can deliver to them and/or provide good pressure

I am strongly of the view that we should trial these variations. Whether we will have all fit and available this year, who knows. But even next year, I think we should plan around 4-6 weeks of different structures. I do not believe the coaching group can sit round over the summer and theorise a best model.

One of the best adages I learnt during my working life was "In theory, theory and practice are the same, in practice, they're not."

Was at the game on Saturday and watched Ape. He really goes hard at it and is a real presence for our smaller players to feed off. However, watching his running style/gait he looks really weak in the legs. Presumably that's because he hasn't been able to train for so many years, if he can stay healthy he will be an excellent forward/ruck to back up Darcy.

Yeah I went to the game too and he was a sight. Sat down far in the square and hit every contest, quite often he’d mark it even though it seemed he was under the ball and put his hands straight up and too late. Gave off two goals of his own, which I think shows something - many other guys who have played ten games in five years would’ve done everything to have the stats to back them up.

Get rid of Sandi and let’s get some partnerships going on. Apeness and Cox looked good together, but get Apeness and Darcy together too. That way you can bring back McCarthy and see how he fares as a third tall and with two key forwards who actually have an impact.

Can’t believe I’m saying it but if that looks good, I wouldn’t be averse to having Taberner back in. But as a wingman.
