Are you saying Dusty Martin as a free agent isnt one you would want. If we have the cash, he is elite, it wont cost us picks or players and the $$$ we were spending on Gibbs would contribute greatly to the godfather deal. Martin is a must target for almost every club in the comp it will come down to who can afford him, Luckily with Fyfe and Kennedy becoming FA's it will even out the field
Not whether i want, but rather the club IIRC has previously stated "no interest" in Martin when he was last available ........i said, i doubt the club will have moved from that position

Did we play Douglas as a mid at all last year except for some second halfs late in the season? I was at the second game of the season and he was playing half forward then.

I think Douglas still has something to offer. Has been played out of position pretty much all year. With a good pre season and the right role I think he can return to being a pretty good player.

He just doesn't belong on a HFF. That much is for sure.

I'm fairly sure the reason he was moved to a HFF in the first place was because he wasn't playing all that well in his original role.

Douglas should be aiming to essentially replace Jaensch' role on the list as a genuine 3rd defensive small option…covers injury to the top 2, can play against smaller, running attacks if required, or could release the better player (Laird) to the midfield.

Now that Henderson and Grigg have been delisted, with Ben Jarman nominated as a father/son prospect, this leaves us with 5 draft picks - 13, 43, 53, 67 and 89.

I would be staggered if pick 89 were used at the draft but it obviously has a purpose, and that purpose could well be to use on a Delisted Free Agent which in turn could well be Michael Barlow.

I'd be happy if it was Barlow and think it might well be.

The only other use IMO for #89 would be if our sniffing around led us to believe that Ben Jarman might well drift out to the very tail of the draft.

However I'm thinking that Jarman is more likely to be in the #53 to #67 range, and if so then it surely has to be a DFA.

If so, surely it has to be Barlow. Hope so.

PS IMO Big statement by the club in delisting Henderson, who was best or close to in his last game played for us.

My interpretation of that is that unless you're hard at the ball, there's no place here for you.

Bye bye Hendo

89 will be ROB upgrade, so we have 4 picks and 67 I suggest would be Jarman.

I dont see a slow centre square with
Barlow, BCrouch, Cameron
Sloane, MCrouch, Milera
Sloane, Smith, Atkins or
Barlow, Sloane, BCrouch
Barlow, Sloane, Milera
Barlow, Sloane, Cameron

I think he becomes the link that allows the smaller bodies of Cameron, Milera, Atkins, etc to function on the outside while going head to head with someone like Josh Kennedy in a final.
Some good points here but I don't think Cameron or Milera will be in the centre square. Wing or high half forwards. Atkins mayyyyybe.

M Crouch, Thompson, Sloane, B Crouch, Barlow - with a bit of time for all bar Thommo spent at half forward like Lyons/Douglas last season.

We don't need to even spend a pick on a DFA. My guess is we'll use our first four selections at the draft, one of those will be Jarman, and we'll use 89 for upgrading O'Brien. Then we'll also get a DFA like Barlow to round out the list

I really hope this is the message the players get. It has been a long time coming.

This is just like being on a CrowCast with you Nikki. :)

We have 6 players either retired or delisted from our main list, offset by the upgrading of O'Brien, which leaves 5 live picks, doesn't it?

If so, that means 89 is a live pick, probably to be used on a DFA (Barlow?)

or another rookie upgrade .......ROB being upgraded, Beech already on the main list .....will he be dropped back to the rookie spot or retained

Was this the only deadline where we could put in nominations for rookie upgrades? Or Is that a later date where we could still upgrade Greenwood if we want to?
No Greenwood on the main list I guess

Another spin off benefit of picking up Barlow

Beech signed a year extension with Hunter today.
No, my point was that Beech was elevated to the main list last year ......so he doesn't need to be elevated again

The question was whether he would be retained on the main list or dropped back to the Rookie list ........if he stays on then we're one pick short of the 5 picks outlined (#89 isn't in play)

Can't you elevate a rookie during the season ?

He's a rookie again this year WW.

Direct quote from the AFC's site

"Adelaide has delisted Ricky Henderson and Mitch Grigg ahead of Monday’s first AFL List Lodgement deadline.

The Crows have also confirmed the upgrading of ruckman Reilly O’Brien, a new two-year deal for emerging forward Harry Dear and one-year extensions for rookies Jonathon Beech and Paul Hunter."

As I said, pick 89 is in play, as at this stage only O'Brien has been elevated to the main list. Beech and Hunter have been signed on for a further year as rookies.

Can't you elevate a rookie during the season ?
You can but a mid-year elevation is not the same as an upgrade at the end of the year. It's not permanent list placement and it can only be done if someone else is put on the LTI list or wait til the second half of the season for the extra rookie elevation. It depends on if the club sees a spot for him in the senior side next year, and how soon he'll be ready.

No further rookie upgrades this year. The deadline for that was 2pm (EDST) today.

Beech will be retained on the rookie list in 2017.

All upgraded rookies are returned to the rookie list at the end of the year. Beech will need to be upgraded again, if he is to play a senior game in 2017.
