We are one of four clubs he has to choose from and he's going to mull over it over the next week, it's already fierce
What's to say those contracts are or aren't lucrative, though? Being a DFA, I highly doubt clubs will offer him guaranteed longer-term deals like Wells was.

I reckon the Hawks will likely go Barrett, much, much younger, more athletic.....and Mitchell, Lewis and other depth mids let go so he'd be excellent depth....and his cousin Luke Bruest already there.
And just exactly why would Hawthorn, whose game is based on precise kicking / disposal, be chasing Barrett ......apart from some family connection

This seems likely, reading the Hawks board
How many sides are there chasing Barlow that are in contention ? ......that's our big seeling point to any player .....it's why Gibbs all of a sudden wanted to be traded to Adelaide, gets the money and a potential flag .....Carlton saw that as well & were pissed

If we do get Bodsiarlow we should get behind him and support the club's decision
Can we make you president of the Barlow supporters club then ;) ......i'd do it but i have enough issues running the Sam Shaw club :'(

And Barlow is such an excellent, wonderful, accurate, precision, dead eyed dick kick......

I'd put money on it if he comes here it's on a 3 year deal with no conditions. Hopefully if that's the cost we walk away like we did Gibbs.

I'd buy a Sam Shaw Club supporter's pin off you

Still like him!

I think Barlow is a decent player who actually had quite a good 2016, far better than people give him credit for.

AFL clubs aren't nursing homes so it's pretty clear a few clubs think he can still play.

That said there is no doubt his acquisition flies in the face of organic growth and someone will be losing out on develpment to accomodate him.

The issue I have is what out midfield looks like without him. No really strong bodies to crash in and clear space. If I think back to the Syd semi first quarter, all we really needed was someone that could actually get their hands on the pill, nobody could and nobody could match the inside grunt and intensity of Syd.

Sloane and the Crouches are fine players but they are not bulldozers in there, and as things stand our midfield looks very light on.

I'm not a massive fan of MB but I can see the role we might need him for, and the fact we do probably need that role filled says more about our midfield and its lack of grunt than anything else.

For all those against I absolutely see your arguments, but on balance I think we look better with him than without.

Honestly, though... do we need him to kick that much? We need him to accumulate, extract, apply tough defensive pressure and just be a POD with his taller body in our midfield. His overall DE is 70%. Better than Rocky and Sloane this year. Sure, many of those disposals would be handballs, but that's his main job - smartly extracting the ball from a contest by handing it to the better kicks in our team.

I was talking of why Hawthorn would chase Barrett .......Barlow is not as bad as made out, and Fremantles Gameplan is very very different to the Crows ......bit hard for Barlow when all your team mates are behind the ball

No disagreement from me on that, it was in reply to the usual suspect in case you hadn't noticed.

Why are your puzzled? It was just spin.

Rough to say it was just spin - surely we all expect Crouchx2 to improve, Atkins, Knight, Hampton, Menzel,Mc Govern, CC,Lever, Milera all to improve and push the MacKay's, Douglas Thommo's out of the side

Plenty of OG in there - what I love is that everyone agrees we need an experience midfielder to bolster our depth and yet most people are worried bringing an experienced mid in will hinder CEY etc - if they are good enough they will put their selection beyond doubt. If they are in the last one or two selected each week then they will probably miss out the the likes of Douglas, Barlow, Mackay. That is just the way it is.

For the record I think Barlow would be a great inclusion if we can get him

But But But .......we absolutely had to get the 176 cm Lachie Neale  ....... he wouldn't have been that big body that everyone is now saying we need, but apparently didn't need 3 months ago .......my my you guys change your position on subjects more often than i change my lace underwear

What you've listed is young talent that most of the good clubs can name. Our midfield is clearly behind the best teams, so when the club announces, after missing out on a trade target, that we always planned on going to the draft when we were suddenly gifted with Gibbs interest and then goes for a slower mid with a dodgy kick, then yeah excusing our trade failure because we are going for organic growth, it's just spin.

You seriously are a Wayne, Neale got his hand on the ball more than any other player in the comp this year.

Yep, fancy wanting to add an AA squad midfielder to our squad.

Do you think the 2 are mutually exclusive - we need a big body but we don't need another high quality mid?

I haven't changed my mind at all, if Neale was available tomorrow we would jump at him as would 16 other clubs.

You continually bagging Neale doesn't mean it's true and in fact, the AA selectors have embarrassed you on this issue

Barlow is 28 and will play entire season in 2017 as a 29 year old. It means if it is a 3 year deal he will be 31 for the duration of that year 3.

Yes I would take that! Seriously, people have their knickers in a knot because he is a delisted FA. If this were a trade period rumour for a draft pick people would be all over it.

I would be comfortable with a 3 year deal. He replaces Thompson in the midfield, takes a bit of pressure of Sloane while still allowing the youngsters to develop. I don't see a problem with it.

What if he plays and Thommo also plays?

Did i ever say Neale couldn't play? .......i said with our sub size midfield another 176cm player, never mind how good, just wasn't a need

Players can be excellent players .....but unless they fulfill a specific need, we're just tying up TPP without satisfying our need

BTW the reason Neale suited Fremantle was because his 3 compatriots ; Fyfe, Mundy, Barlow were all 190cm plus ......so Neale balance Freo, he doesn't do the same for Adelaide that a Laird couldn't do in the midfield if we wished, with better footskills and decision making .....BTW Laird is also a AA squad member
