Certainly an improvement .....but IMO still not at the standard of last year .....and this COULD make him vulnerable if he doesn't pick his game up.

To be fair though he had a very interupted PS and would be still trying to catchup ....as will other injured players like McGregor, Roo, Maric and co
 
Hasnt been getting the game time he had been last year either with the emergance of Knights and Douglas, but last night was definitely a step back towards last years form.

The young boy showed how important his quick gives are by hand to our movment forward.

His spot kicking and kicking to a lead were also very good.

He just needs to get the goalkicking boots back on again.

It is an absolute certainty that these three will return as soon as they are fit - though Ricciuto will almost certainly return via West Adelaide in order to gain some match fitness.

  • Bode, like it or not, is our best small forward - due to the pressure he applies when Adelaide are not in posession of the footy.

It has also been pointed out, quite correctly, that of those players only Shirley is a genuine midfielder. However, on each occasion that these players have gone out of the side it has been a midfielder who has come in to effectively replace them with the team being reshuffled as a result. Thus, though none of the returning players are themselves midfielders, it is likely that a midfielder will be omitted in order to make way for their return.

The question of who will be dropped in order to accommodate the return of these more senior players is a valid one, which has not really been answered during CS & Crow-mo's debate.

My personal opinion is as follows:
  • First man out will be Bernie Vince, the least experienced player in our lineup and the player with most to gain from playing in the SANFL.
  • Second man out will be Porplyzia.
  • Third man out would be Doughty. His form has not been great this year and the likes of VB, Knights and Douglas would all be ranked higher than him. Did a good job in the tagging role last week, but Shirley's return would remove that requirement.

I do not believe that there would be a need for a fourth man out, as I believe that there is only room in our forward line for two of Welsh, Ricciuto & Bode. Given that Welsh's form in R2 & R3 has been good (though R1 was dire at best), it is unlikely that he would be dropped. Thus Roo & Bode are fighting for one position - Bode is likely to return, only to be dropped when Roo regains fitness.

Kinda off topic I know but just wanted to say there is NO WAY Ricciuto will come back through Westies. Just not the kind of player who needs a run out. Nevertheless I just hope I am proved right or wrong sooner rather than later ;)

He plays better when hes underdone anyway, just ask collingwood.

I agree with that, I thought he got some very imporant touches in the last quarter. Check the mail in the morning and I wouldnt be surprised to see him in the best players for Adelaide.

This quote from last weeks game IMO still applies to todays game ......

He's not impressing me as he has in the past

If he is then that's an indictment on our team..... suggest you also study his opponents stats ....that's if he got near one to know who he was playing on.

I saw that before I bumped the thread. So it's not like it's going to make me look like an idiot.

He won a lot of the ball, but his disposal, decision making, and constant fumbling was terrible.

WW Im with you on this.

You know that I have been a big fan of young Micks.

However his form in 2007 HAS NOT been as good as previous years.

He looks like hs has lost a little bit of pace and he is deficent overhead - this has been shown up 3-4x this year.

He will probably stay in the side but it probably tells us more about the lack of suitable replacements in our side than his form of late.

He had one night game a few weeks ago where I thought he was back.

What we do with Mick, Massie and JT in the next few years will be interesting.?
 
Dogga was OK. The problems are elsewhere.

I was on the plane back with the boys.

Sarge did not look well, arm in a sling.

Reilly used crutches and put NO weight on the bum leg.

Now is not the time to risk too many unforced changes especially with a quality player like dogga. Stability assists sides.

Doughty was in our top half of players today.

I can't understand the calls for dropping him etc one little bit.

To borrow a line from Wayne's_World [:(] he probably looks the most replaceable given what he offers to the side at this stage in his career.

For instance, instead of giving the enigmatic Jericho the chop (who as you'd know is far from being one of my favourites) I'd have looked at dropping/resting one of Doughty, Torney or Stevens first, given their type is easily replaceable in the wider scheme of things as impressive as they can be in a given week.

Given how much we struggled against Richmond and Carlton, Jericho's form against the latter was a breath of fresh air with his pace, goalsense and ability to provide something different far more valuable than yet another steady but far from stellar performance from Dogga.
