Re: cuddles cancer

Good to see the usual dipsticks out in force today - some even before the ball was bounced. Still, it does wonders for my own ego, knowing how many people there are on this site that know less about football than myself.

I was bagging the Hell out of MJ last week. Harvey did not drop him and as usual, Harves was right. MJ played well today and it was vital having him there when Sandi was subbed off. Well done MJ, you now need to play like that or better every week. The intensity is what was needed in his previously performances.

Looking forward to next week when the guys can put a stamp on their performance against the Roos.:D:thumbsu:

Re: cuddles cancer

An that is why they dont drop him coz when he plays good he is easily in our best 22.
Yes he made some poor mistakes today but the good out weighed the bad.
Much better effort from him an its what he needs to be doing every week.
Not just when he feels like it.

Was it because he felt it was an important game? (Pav Milestone)
Or did he finally get a talking too from coaching staff that he hasnt been putting in properly?
Whatever it was there are no excuses from him not to do this every week.
He can still play better but this game is what is required an he is capable of every week

the really annoying thing about MJ is that it is all there for all of us to see... he has rare talent... and his laconic nature makes it look as though he doesnt care enough to reach his potential... frustrating player because when on song he is a best 10 player..... i would take a player like deboer over MJ any day because you can see he is giving his all and he now seems to know his limitations... having said that you need players with x-factor... MJ has that... i just wish he acted on it more than once every 5 or 6 games... harves will be bald by the time MJ retires ;)

Re: cuddles cancer

MJ didn't play that well today, and chickened out on 3 contests. One gave the Crows their first goal when he didn't attack the ball, but tried to paddle it to a team mate.

Agreed. Also spazzed it up when it looked like we might choke Adelaide's momentum in the third.

Was better than the past two weeks, but that was because he had his float around unopposed role back.

He was playing a different role last week . Then he played the whole first half in the forwardline and it hasn't been working. When he plays back he plays his best and is most comfortable.

Started well and did some good things but was very costly when his laziness/fear reared it's head.

Net effect was nill and below par for someone of his experience.

He normally dominates when we are up and flying as well. I do like him down back though, please leave him out of the forward line.

he is only playing because of our current injuries.when the likes of barlow, silvagni, mzungu and ibbo all return i think you will find that the cancer will be cut out(jonno).

Re: cuddles cancer

Being tall and athletic gives this guy a pass that shits me. It's not just his appearance that is lazy and lacks commitment. He wasn't that good today, I think he's being given too much credit.

Re: cuddles cancer

His most important role for the team at the moment is giving Sandi a chopout. When SNOS is match fit you'd think that MJ would be in trouble seeing as they pretty much play identical roles, except SNOS can play a key back role and isn't afraid of catching boy germs.

Re: cuddles cancer

I just watched the replay, he had some important touches early, took some excellent marks in defence and performed creditably in the ruck when Sandi went down.
Like it or not, he played the utility role well and he WILL play next week.

I'm pretty much gobsmacked how some of the BF members underestimate his importance to our structure.

Players like him about as rare as you can get. He can play in any position. He has done so during his hundred odd games for Fremantle and I expect he wont be going away anytime in the future.

You idiots better get used to seeing him because our coaching staff seem to have a lot of faith in him.
As they should.

No one is understimating how important he is to the structure. Everyone is just incredibly disappointed in his attitude at times and his poor performances, yet it seems to be rewarded each week.

My problems with him are that he is really soft. He stops to a walk on his tippy toes when someone comes at him near the ball, or he attempts some stupid play instead of attempting to take the play on by running through the ball.

His kicking goes from good to absolutely woeful in a matter of moments. One time he could hit a 40m lace out pass, the next he would kick the ball along the ground.

Thirdly, he slows the play down. Numerous times where we had a few men on the overlap, Johnson would take the mark, take his time to get back and then switch the play back to where it was, because he was so slow. In the 2nd quarter, he went off and got a spray on the phone from Harvey after his soft as butter effort. When he went off, we managed to get the ball going forward, before that the ball was camped in the Crows half for almost the entire quarter.

You were at the game then.
I wondered what happened to him in the 2nd 1/4.

I agree with most of your observations but I don't necessarily fully agree with your considerations.

I think he is suppose to be out side of the crunches. His job as I see it (often) is the decision maker after a ball gets spat out. He also covers holes and fills in space.

Just as he can criticized endlessly for every mistake he makes I could drone on about every thing he does right.

I dont expect he will play every game this year even if he remains uninjured. He will part of the rotations and if we get into the finals he will be judged on his efforts.

I get really cut up though how some people are so quick to assassinate a guy so early in the season.

MJ drives me insane, but as some people cant understand why he frustrates me so much, i am equally miffed on why people bag crowley so much...... crowley kicked a goal and kept stiffy johncock to SFA yesterday, dont hear anyone praising him though. i think we all need to get a grip sometimes... me included

We all rate him.

Its just we see he has so much more to give than what he has been.

So the question is what is needed to get him to play every game with 100% effort.

Playing him week in week out an giving him a spray every now an then hasnt worked.
Maybe if he felt pressure to keep his spot by being dropped.
We could get the good MJ every game instead of every 3 weeks

Just watched the game tonight, he had a pretty good one. He took some good marks and linked up the play well as well as some decent forward 50 entries. The only thing that frustrated me was the weak marking effort where he seemed to play for a free instead of going for the ball and in turn let it get swept up for a crows goal (I think in the 2nd). Just another brainfade in an otherwise serviceable game.

Umm, not to be a hater, but the bit in purple is just wrong. In fact, it is just crap to suggest that about MJ.

Pav and Sandi are "about as rare as you can get". No-one else in our history comes even close to that level, especially the variable weakness that is MJ.

Great post Bradey. Good to see Mundy's form has improved your posting ability...

Yes, but it is hardly early in MJ's career. He's had many chances to prove to us that his performance can be sustained at the top level, and he fails every time. Sorry, but only he is to blame for that.

Crowley has been no better than MJ lately. Better let him go KPR, likely that both will be gone by 2013...

I agree. I thought he was very solid.

Harvey has got everyone playing a role in the team. Its not about the individual and how he plays.

Johnno is a very valuable player as he is very flexible and at his best is a match winner

who from saturday's team is going to be omitted once barlow, silvagni, ibbo & mzungu all return? 4 will have to go in my view.

It's not easy, but I would pick from:

Lower, Roberton, Pitt, Walters, Crowley, and Johnson/Kep

Pitt will probably be in and out of the team a bit. Lower, Kep and Walters would probably be the last dropped of that group if it was up to me.

Roberton probably first out

fair call. jeez if pitt keeps producing like he did on saturday, hard to omit such a clean ball user by foot.
