Michael Rischitelli shelves Carlton, Brendan Fevola trade saga to focus on AFL season with Brisbane Lions

Rischitelli has decided the best way to handle the fallout from the trade deal that almost saw him leave the Brisbane Lions is not to talk about it."I don't want to really talk about that - it's the past and I'm more worried about the future," Rischitelli said yesterday.

Former Brisbane Lion Tim Notting is a role model for Rischitelli as he attempts to re-establish himself at the Lions. Notting was offered up for trade in 2003 but stayed to take his chances and enjoyed another six seasons with the club.

Brad Hardie - "My best guess is he will shift an hour down the road to the Gold Coast next year. Clubs like that tend to end up with a lot of 19- and 30-year-olds and not much in between. He would be a very good fit for them."

Re: Michael Rischitelli

A couple of years ago we saw Rischitelli play some brilliant footy at the start of the year, and since then he has rarely had stand out performances. Tonight he looked as good as ever, which gives me optimism that his capabilities are greater than what I had thought. While he did cramp up, he looked very fit and had a massive final quarter.

Thought he was good all night Grim

Re: Michael Rischitelli

I was most impressed with his game tonight - stood up early when the Eagles were on top of us - appears stronger and playing with greater confidence, like he's capable of going to another level :thumbsu:

Re: Michael Rischitelli

Surprised me immensely tonight :thumbsu:

The second tier of Brennan, Sherman and Risch really stood up tonight when it mattered

Re: Michael Rischitelli

Rischitelli was outstanding last night! That was clearly his best game for the Lions. Forget him as a tagger or half-forward, he clearly stamped himself as a rolled gold mid-fielder, who was capable of generating clearances by playing "in and under" and also giving us excellent drive playing "outside." Some great tackles too. Saved a certain goal in the first quarter and put pressure on opponents all night. His pass to Brown, who goaled, in the last quarter was a match highlight.

A fantastic game from a player that many have been prepared to write off over the journey so far. Since the end of last season he has shown great character, both off and now on the field. I hope everyone at the club and everyone who supports the Lions recognises what he has to offer, this year and beyond.

Rischitelli's Statistics Rd 1 2010:

28 Disposals (10 kicks / 18 handballs), 6 Marks (1 contested), 6 Inside 50's, 7 Tackles, 4 1st Possessions, 4 Clearances, 2 Score Assists, 0 Critical Errors.

Go Lions!

Re: Michael Rischitelli

Rischitelli has stepped up so far this season and has gone from an OK player to quite a good one. 3 weeks ago I wouldn't have been too fussed if we were to lose him to the GC. Now I would be annoyed if we did.

Re: Michael Rischitelli

In 3 short weeks Rischitelli's really turned me around. Where previously he'd just blindly hack it out of the middle he seems to have so much more time now and regularly disposes to advantage. Credit where it is due. :thumbsu:

Re: Michael Rischitelli

Another excellent game. He would have to be sitting second behind Jonathon Brown in Best and Fairest voting at this early stage of the season.

Go Lions!

Re: Michael Rischitelli

Talk about making a statement

From lions website stats central:
Kicks - 5th
Handballs - 1st
Disposals - 1st
Marks - 3rd
Tackles - 3rd

Michael Rischitelli goes from expendable to essential

Black - "He has had a fair bit to prove this year in all honesty. But he has gone out there and backed himself. The defensive side of his game has always been good, but the offensive part of his game has been terrific this year.''

Brown - "At the end of '08 he was probably our best player (but) I suppose he had a down year last year. Obviously a bit happened in the off-season but the way he has come through that has shown tremendous character - he stood up. It has been a big month of footy for him. He leads us in the pressure. His tackling is just enormous and he is finding the footy as well.''

Re: Michael Rischitelli

Adrian Fletcher

"He's been sensational," Fletchers said.

"He's become a leader of the midfield group and we've been thrilled with the work he's done since he reported for the first day of pre-season training. He's done the work and had a really good six weeks to start the season."

"The whole thing with Michael was pretty amicable. He understood there were areas in his game he needed to improve and came back and worked on them in the summer," Fletcher said.

"There was no need to sit down and talk about it (being on the trade table) I don't think, he just trained hard and focused on becoming a better player".

Re: Michael Rischitelli

Riska's 100th game next week agaisnt North...hopefully another milestone win against a side that is getting pumped in WA at the moment.

I still remember his first game against the Crows and kicking 2 goals. The memory I have is a crunching tackle that enabled him a shot at goal.

Re: Michael Rischitelli

I said to someone today "he's not playing like someone who is looking to leave the club." The reply I got was "Or, he's playing like a guy who knows he's only got a few games left at the club he grew up in." Bloody hell!

Re: Michael Rischitelli

His form is not quite as hot as it was at the start of the year but it is still pretty good. I wouldn't be surprised if he was leading the B&F.

Re: Michael Rischitelli

Agree Grim, he isn't as red hot as he was the first 5 or 6 weeks, however he is still pretty consistant. i think the likes of Black, Power, Rich have stolen a bit of the light off him the past 3 or 4 weeks, but he is still getting high 20's in touches. He hasn't lost any form i don't think, we have just had other midfielders get better around him so he isn't standing out as much now.

He is a bit like Brennan, he needed to be more consistant and so far he is doing that this season, even when the team form has been bad, his form hasn't dropped away with the team, which is a great sign.

I was more referring to the talk that he seems to be producing, the constant encouragement of the young blokes, the celebration of a goal - he's certainly not just going through the motions in terms of how he engages with his teammates.
