Re: Michael Rischitelli

brisbane is alot closer to the coast then melbourne is

I think it was the Gold Coast $$$ that interested him, not the golden beaches.

Re: Michael Rischitelli

How about this

Vossy calls Rischa into his office- tells him you have proved me wrong, offers him an extra 100k a season and elevates him into the leadership group. Rischa deserves all of the above. If he chooses to leave, Voss can lose him with a clear conscience.

All sounds fair enough to me..:thumbsu:..I dont want him or Brennan to go, but Vossy can only do so much, as long as he tries to keep them tho..

On the same day Lions chairman Tony Kelly stood down, the club was also preparing for the possibility of losing two of its best players, with Michael Rischitelli set to to walk out on the club.

Rischitelli was one of the first players linked to the Suns but it is understood his management has also held talks with North Melbourne, Carlton and Essendon.

Brisbane accepts its pointless offering new contract to Michael Rischitelli

The draft and trading concessions granted to the Suns permit them to take only one uncontracted player from each of the 16 clubs but Rischitelli, or any other Lion, can still be acquired through a trade or one of the national or pre-season drafts in which they hold a swathe of early picks.

"I was asked, 'Is it worth our while putting a contract to you?' and my answer was 'No, it isn't'." Olarenshaw said. "That's not to say we can't go back to Brisbane at the end of the season and say, 'What is your best offer?' but Rob Kerr and I did have a discussion and that's where it was left. Michael has a number of options before him, the Gold Coast being one of them whether or not Jared Brennan makes a move there, and a return to Melbourne being another."

Re: Michael Rischitelli

Well that just confuses me even more now. Didn't Hutchy rule out the possibility of GC using the PSD to get a second player from a club? Who is wrong?

I assume the Lions could still opt to trade with the GC, but leaving them aside for a minute (assuming that Hutchy is correct, which is always dangerous), could a win over the Bombers tomorrow potentially weaken the Lions trade / negotiating hand?

If a Lions win causes the Dons to slip below us on the ladder, they obviously get a lower pick in the pre-season draft, which would make it more likely that the Bombers could pick up Rischa for naught but his salary.

They'll have the Tigers and Dees in the way, but it seems to be relatively uncommon for a high profile recruit to get picked up by a club he doesn't want to go to, whereas clubs often threaten to simply pick up the player again if he walks to the PSD as a tactic to force trade negotiations.

Whichever way it goes, it looks like Kerr will have his hands full the next couple of months.

Re: Michael Rischitelli

That public statement by Olarenshaw is highly provocative.

My immediate reaction is that we should seriously consider dropping Rischitelli immediately - for round 21 and 22. Although there is no doubt we won't do it.

The whispers, turned to conversations, turned to loud roars throughout the season; and here Olarenshaw has basically confirmed it. Now if we drop him, we lose any goodwill he has left towards us and makes it even more likely he will do the dirty on us and we will get nothing for him (if that aren't his thoughts already). Also if we drop him it could affect the compensation we get from the Gold Coast (due to the best and fairest) if he legitimately goes to them before the PSD.

All this means we won't drop him, but really as a fan it pisses me off that we are going to lose him right when he finally has shown his worth. There has basically been stories every year of him wanting to go back to Melbourne and then this. The Club kept him in the side probably a lot longer than his form deserved for a number of years; and because of the constant end of year interest from Essendon, we probably paid him over what he was really worth for most of his career. The Lions then dug their own grave with the Fevola / Carlton thing, and Voss's bad handling of that and the aftermath. Now Rischitelli finally comes good this year and we lose him.

I'm angry. Angry with the Club, angry with Voss, angry with Rischitelli / Olarenshaw, angry about the Gold Coast, and most of all angry about our Club's immediate future going down the drain.

Yeah he is free to make decisions that are best for his future; but that doesn't mean I am about to clap him off the ground and pat him on the back when I can see the Lions short term prospects go down the gurgler.

I am pissed off.

You said it. I am in the exact same frame of mind when it come to Brennan, if he leaves. God, when did we become THAT club?

If Brown doesn't get the three votes from the umpires then Michael Rischitelli surely will after he helped himself to 28 possessions and two goals. The 24-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the year, is enjoying his best ever season and Voss expressed his desire to keeping him and the rest of the team together with Gold Coast firmly in the picture.

"We know we're coming to the end of the year and there's new challenges that front us and part of that challenge is going to be able to ensure that we keep the group together and that's going to have its own little hidden challenges," he said. "His season has been very impressive and the fact that he's come out and had his best year, I'm sure that he'll more than comfortably be in our best three in our best and fairest."

Hutchy was quoting an AFL statement issued to Clubs last Thursday

The interview with triple M before Sunday's game Quatermaine asked Voss about both players..Voss said the AFL statement was definite that only one uncontracted player can go to the Gold Coast.....

Both Rischitelli and Brennan are Gold Coast targets, but Voss is comforted by an AFL ruling which means only one can be signed

Ashcroft has said GC were going to chase defenders.... Seems more likely if we were going to lose one to GC it would be Brennan...

Re: Michael Rischitelli

I remember Leigh Matthews a while back saying that Riska was a future All-Australian and thinking there was no chance that Leigh was right. But if he improves next year by nearly as much as he did this year and if he is playing in a side he wants to play for he might be a good chance.

The word around the Coast is that Rischitelli signed in the window late last season, but that cannot be confirmed.

Re: Michael Rischitelli

Jamie Charman

Michael Rischitelli - who is probably now considered one of the more senior players at the Club at just 24 years old - has enjoyed the best of his seven year career with the Lions.

Rischa has played every game this season and is among the team leaders in pretty much every statistic you can imagine. He’s been getting plenty of the ball and has really taken his game to another level. It’s little wonder why most people consider him as one of the favourites for this year’s Club Champion award.

Re: Michael Rischitelli

Yeah if Rischa is going at the end of the season (and I think it is pretty clear he is), he deserves a fair bit of credit for putting his head down and delivering this year for the Lions regardless.

Even if it was just to say "I'll show them", we got some good footy out of him this year when he could have just cruised through.

Speculation on Rischitelli move
Jake Niall
August 27, 2010

Rischitelli's manager, Rick Olarenshaw, said yesterday his client's situation was not connected with Brennan in any way. ''[Brennan's] decision doesn't affect what we decide to do.'' Olarenshaw would not elaborate further.

But the fact Gold Coast can only take one out of contract player from each club (barring a trade) would encourage the view that Rischitelli may be the player that is already committed to the Gold Coast. The less likely explanation is that he intends to re-sign, regardless of what happens with Brennan.

Olarenshaw hasn't definitively ruled out Rischa staying in Brisbane so until the announcement is made I'm going to be that glass half full girl again :p

I would be very sad to see Michael go, especially after the way he's played this season. He has been superb.

While Gold Coast is his probable destination, manager Ricky Olarenshaw yesterday said re-signing with the Lions was still possible."I am just going to let the dust settle and let him enjoy his Mad Monday. We will start talking seriously later in the week," he said.
"He might surprise us all and sign with Brisbane but everyone is assuming he's going to the Gold Coast. No one has asked Michael yet. It is definitely not cut and dried."
Several clubs keen to lure Rischitelli are likely to contact him late this week or early next week.

Re: Michael Rischitelli

We simply don't have the money to keep him, even if he did want to stay, we would need to cut some more dead weight, TJ, Charman and Sherman to create a bit more space for our salary cap.

Re: Michael Rischitelli

Dreamteam

On the field, it came as no surprise that midfielder Michael Rischitelli finished the season with more Dream Team points than any of his Lions team-mates.

Rischitelli enjoyed a career-best season and his consistent form was one of the shining lights for the Club in an otherwise disappointing 2010 season. He played every match for the season and averaged a Club-high 96.27 points per game.

He also ranked 20th in the entire AFL competition for most individual Dream Team points accumulated throughout the season.

LIONS MOST POINTS (OVERALL)
1. Michael Rischitelli - 2,118
2. Luke Power - 1,835
3. Jack Redden - 1,746
4. Matthew Leuenberger - 1,702
=5. Daniel Rich - 1,657
=5. Tom Rockliff - 1,657

LIONS MOST POINTS (AVERAGE)
1. Michael Rischitelli - 96.27
2. Simon Black - 91.78
3. Luke Power - 87.38
4. Tom Rockliff - 87.21
5. Jared Brennan - 87.00
