Unfortunately I think we all know how this endless cycle goes. Fans will be at his throat, pressure will mount, players will play even worse under said pressure and off we go again with the savior Adam Simpson in 2024.

Im done.
We usually get a good couple of months with a new coach during the honeymoon period. I'd take it. Maybe we just do 6 mth contracts and keep them rotating through.

That’s my big concern. He deserves the sack if/when we miss again this year but I’m not convinced they’ll want to pull the pin based off our history.

Yep.

He probably deserves until the end of 2024 but how far into the primes of Cripps, Doc, Saad, 2015 crop do we want to go?

A new coach needs time to implement their own structures and spin on the list.

I don’t want us to waste what we have. Not sure the club will have the balls to make the hard call this time around.

Exactly why we should’ve gone for Lyon…the guy took two different teams to grand finals…not easy to do…big mistake from sayers he needs to put his hand up at seasons end if the season continues like this

You might be right but it gets tiresome seeing it repeated over and over. Its far more enjoyable to ride the journey rather than find faults in microscopic fashion.
I think that it's interesting also how little some naysayers seem to contribute when we win.
Blind Freddie can find fault at the moment
Beating WCE wasn’t something to hang your hat on

Definite shades of 2014 to me.

Mature coaches appointed a bit out of drsperation because after years of failure we absolutely had to have a mature coach to get us 'over the hump' (haha).

In both first years 2013 and 2022 we finish 9th with a bizarre twist to end the year.

Second year a bit of the gloss wears off, we have some good games against weaker teams but look a mile off the pace against good teams. It also becomes clear that the game plan and coaching strategy are just totally wrong for the players we have.

Meanwhile...
  • time is passing by for some of the older stars, while other older guys start looking checked out
  • we absolutely flubbed some critical draft periods and have very little in the 20-22 age bracket to advance the team forward.

Also part of this is the realisation that we maybe weren't totally fair to the prior coach. In hindsight Teague had Curnow missing almost his entire tenure, had to deal with the Covid bubble, lockdowns and limitations on training in both years... and was essentially gone less than two years into the job.

We’re still a work in progress ;)
Exactly. Thommo and Dimma were both on the cusp of getting the arse before they turned it around. Supporters are struggling tonight but we need to be patient and hang tough.

I never actually thought Teague was the problem and we needed to boost the overall coaching panel. The way things are nowadays you need a lot more than a few individuals on and off the field to take you to where you want to be.

I do think we are still paying for poor recruting 5 or so years ago.

I feel for Voss, there is obviously something in the way this club sets itself up that is not going to bring any success whatsoever but he does not have “it”.

Everyone talking about sacking him before this list gets old… this list is extreme overrated. A few “top 10”players should be moved on before the coach.

Voss is a leader. He'd probably give a good motivational speech. He seems to have zero tactical nous. In this situation he should be surrounded by people with strong tactical knowledge.

I don't think we can afford it as most of our money is going to a fitness wizard that is providing no clear benefit. Whether or not he's to blame for our injuries, we're definitely not fitter than our oppositions.

Without a good team around Voss that complements his strengths, we're never going to know if he's up to it.

Go on, give us some names. Curious to hear them.

His press conference was concerning like it was against the saints. Seems to shirk responsibility and blame it all on players not executing and skill errors.

I've been critical of our coaching / plan early part of the year (and in the pre-season and got hounded for it).

But tonight I'm actually not as discouraged as I have been previously.

I can kind of start to see them changing it up. We are definitely trying to go up the middle more but we haven't practiced this as much as other teams over the off season (which is a mistake) or if we did we're missing probably our best player at it (Williams) so we don't have the confidence or skill level yet to consistently pull this off.

It's disappointing and challenging that we're trying to change it up mid season but at least encouraging that we are trying rather than going with the infuriating chip slow plan from earlier in the year.

I'm actually reminded by us of the few struggling years Collingwood had under Buckley before they broke through. Working on a game plan but skill level was letting them down. They eventually got there, as did Melbourne. It is fixable.

So I'm not as down as others. As I've said previously I think he is a good man manager and can continue to be a good leader for us, but of course he needs help (and again I was big on getting couple of good assistants in the off season but that'll have to wait until end of this year now).

Lets keep the hope alive.

The few years immediately after making a grand final? How terrible for them to have been building for so long.

I actually thought it was pretty good - 85 points from turnover what do you want him to do? Kick it for them under no pressure .. fact of the matter is the players can’t execute under pressure and that’s not the coaches fault.

We turn the ball over too much and it’s our so called good players that are the culprits ..
Walsh, Cripps, weiters .. it’s a list management issue as much as anything we haven’t recruited enough top 6 AFL standard ball users and it shows.

How can you win so many stats and yet get pumped like that? .. simple answer .. teams fold back wait for our mistakes and hurt us on the rebound .. and there’s plenty of opportunities for them to do it …

Low IQ footballers with sub par skills the list is miles off it
