You have great faith not only in Voss's ability but even more faith in Mitchell's. I am not sure if Kane has the skill level myself but it should be very interesting to see how he pans out.

Indeed I have faith in Voss's ability to bring the best out of Mitchell. What a challenge. Question is, I agree with you, how good is that 'best' ?

I admit I have less faith in Mitchell's ability to be turned into the contributor I described in my earlier post, but at the end of 2015 if he hasn't produced the goods he will have no excuses whatsoever, considering the coaching he'll be getting.

Let's revisit in 12 months.

I think after the first few rounds we should know where Mitchell fits in the team. I can only see Mitchell playing if we have a number of injuries. Moore, Impey, Ryder, Young, Amon? Shaw? Harvey? And Hoon and Redden when they return from injury should all be selected before Mitchell. There may be others I have missed.

Still shaking my head at that Graham Cornes comment tonight, when he suggested that Michael Voss' appointment in no way fills the void left by Phil Walsh. Wishful thinking Wrinkles, but I reckon you'll be left with egg on your face......again!!!!!

If the presence of Shaun Hart couldn't improve Mitchell's game, I doubt Voss's will.

My lord we must be connected (poor you) that was my first thought also.

I don't rate Mitchell ahead of Neade. At least Neade looks up for and option when he has the ball, and delivers. I still cant get it out of my head when Mitchell had the ball on the wing and never looked inside where two players had their hands up waiting for the ball. Mitchell kicked the ball to Jay down the wing who had three, yes three, players on him. What a stuff up.

Ha! They get the biggest leg up from the local media to the point of absurdity. They can talk.
There is a difference though. Their local leg up is from biased locals whereas our Fox focus has been earned with the exciting brand of football we play, our clubs good decision making and our rise up the ladder. They can eat a bowl of di**s.

Going a little slightly off the main thread, I wonder if Voss' appointment may open up the possibility of a trade to get Darcy Gardiner to Port? With Bobby getting on a bit another tall defender might be a requirement assuming Tom Clurey struggles like Butcher has to come up?

I think tall defenders is one department we're pretty well stocked in at the moment. I have faith that Clurey will become a good 2nd/3rd defender.

Let's not forget Jonas & Trengove are both under 24 y.o

Fair point. Got a little bit carried away with the thought of two Jackson Trengove types as tall defenders monstering opposition forwards and lipping off. And possibly a little unreasonable regional bias chucked in as well considering the kid is a Queenscliff product.

Voss never had anything to do with Gardiner. By the time he got drafted Voss was gone.

“It was when I first went to Brisbane. Everyone was there and I’ll never forget, Vossy was the last person to eat. Made sure everyone else got theirs first. Even got a plate of food for his wife, as well.

“I thought that was really interesting for a head coach. To me, that just spoke of the respect that he showed to the people around him.

“That’s really stuck in my head — that even though he was an absolute champion player, a coach, all the rest of it, he was still really down to earth.

“And, yeah, that’s the way he is.”

I'm still really rapt to see Voss managing our midfield group.

Still shaking my head that Port pulled off this recruiting coup.

Voss arrives at Alberton
It is player development, specifically in a burgeoning Power midfield that this week gained Essendon export Paddy Ryder as a ruck-forward, where Trevena sees Voss’s real promise.
“The beauty of it is he’ll be looking after mainly the midfield group where he played his role, part of that Fab Four in Brisbane’s heyday,” he says.
“To see him adding those little intricacies in there, when to push off, when not to push off, how to get into the right positions, all those things, he’ll really identify with those guys. Especially with such a young group of midfielders — a Hamish Hartlett, an Ollie Wines, the Travis Boaks and Robbie Grays — he’ll keep them improving as well.”

Vossy tweeted that Ewen McKenzie is a great coach and mentor. Wonder if Ewen might pay a visit to Alberton?

As long as he brings that other great ex Wallaby Port fan - Nobody.
