Its incredible that for an organisation as large as the AFL, they are still unable to hook up a second microphone for the journalists at the press conferences.

You don't even need a second microphone - if you want to be stingy, use a compressor (the simplest of settings) and make them at least audible, albeit somewhat muffled.

Hell, you can probably get AI to get it done for free..

At each of the main stadiums build a lecture theatre type room with a microphone at each seat. Have capacity for say 20 journos - two rows of 10 and just feed the mikes into the main audio.
 
If you have even a half decent sound system hearing the questions isn't an issue. Although they're never very inspiring and you can always figure them out by the answer given anyway.
Probably the thing that least irks me about afl in all honesty
