He plays his 250th game on the weekend for the Sydney Swans and I think he has been underrated by a lot of supporters and commentators. He has been over-shadowed by the great players such as Paul Kelly, Tony Lockett, Daryn Cresswell, Adam Goodes and Barry Hall. I think he ranks alongside of those great players. Hopefully by Round 14, he'll be breaking the Swans games record of 260 games. So what's everybody's opinion of Michael O'Loughlin? I think he rates as one of the best ever players for the Swans and that's saying a lot. I think he is in the top 10 of all time Swans players. Michael O'Loughlin is a champion and has played 250 well deserved games.

one of the most agile, and exciting forwards in recent history, Sydney are lucky to have him on the field, and I enjoy every moment watching him play, absolute top notch gun

I saw Micky O with some of the Swannies boys outside Gosh at Fox.. I thought it was his 250th but wasn't sure. I didn't want to be a total tool so i just wished them good luck for Sunday. It must've been a training session on because as i was walking back to the carpark Roosy was heading off too. I wished him good luck too.

The real celebration should be tentatively scheduled for round 14 when Micky O - injuries allowing - will break John Rantall's 28-year-old record for most games for South Melbourne/Sydney.

Here's hoping he becomes the first Swan to 300 games - we've been waiting long enough. :)

What is your Top 10 by the way. I'd like to see that.

Mick's a hero and I love to watch him play more than any other Swan. He and I got our first taste of senior Swans footy in the same year - OK I was in the stands cheering rather than playing - so I've enjoyed following him for his whole career.

I think it was the 1997 finals campaign that Magic really starred. We got knocked out in the end by Adelaide (or some other bastards). I remember it was raining and muddy and he was injured but still trying to drag us over the line. Most of the other top players seemed down and out, injured and just about given up, but not Magic. He desperately wanted another crack at the big one, you could just feel it.

So I was glad for him in 2005. His leading and marking against Chick was brilliant while his goal-kicking yips nearly cost us, but he did finally get his premiership.

And didn't he stick it to the Weagles supporters at Subie in the 2006 finals :D

It was Adelaide but in 1998 Semi Final at the SCG after Swans had beaten Saints the week before. Adelaide were the reigning premiers and would go back to back that year

hmm....good question

My top 10 Swans players of all time:
1: Bobby Skilton
2: Paul Kelly
3: Adam Goodes
4: Barry Hall
5: Brett Kirk
6: Daryn Cresswell
7: Tony Lockett
8: Gerard Healy
9: Michael O'Loughlin
10: Andrew Dunkley

That's from the top of my head. :thumbsu:

Magic has to be probably the most underrated player on a list that has been completely underrated for the better part of a decade. We are just a different team when he's not in the forward line. And the way he's come back over the last few of years after those knee problems which really limited his game has been pretty amazing. At least some of the fans around the league are finally just barely beginning to realise how good he actually is :thumbsu:

Congratulations on his 250th game this Sunday. Glad I'm going this Sunday and watching him play. Going to be very memorable. :thumbsu:

Lets hope he can break the 260th barrier (injury free and all that) and charge towards his 300th.

You know that Bobby Skilton wasn't the only Swan to play before the past 20 years, don't you?

Vic Belcher, Bob Pratt, Laurie Nash, Herb Mathews, Ron Clegg, Fred Goldsmith, John Rantall, Peter Bedford, Barry Round and Greg Williams would have a right to be miffed.

As an old South Melbourne supporter, no I didn't knew that Bobby Skilton wasn't the only Swans to play before the past 20 years!

But I hope you know i'm only 31, those players we're before my time:rolleyes:

Then so was Bobby.

Do you genuinely think that Brett Kirk, Daryn Cresswell and Andrew Dunkley are the fifth, sixth and tenth best Swans of all time?

Greg who?

Sorry. I'm still pissed off he left. ;)

2 memories & one word to describe him:

1)hammy injury round 22 of i duno what year (2003?) against melb in final minutes of the game. misses finals. the pain, the agony, & that was only what i felt as a spectator!

2)giving it to the big boy last year a subi hehehehe

Despite all his injuries & the pressure of playing FF without locket or hall, & to finally achieve the ultimate.... simply "MAGIC"

Don't you rate Kirk, Cresswell and Dunkley, all are champions? Who would you put in smartarse?

No need to get jumpy.

I certainly rate Kirk, Cresswell and Dunkley. All three would be comfortably in our top fifty of all time. All three would have a case for being in the top twenty-five.

None are even close to our top ten, though. In no particular order, the players I would consider for that would be Vic Belcher, Bob Pratt, Laurie Nash, Herb Mathews, Jack Graham, Ron Clegg, Fred Goldsmith, Bob Skilton, John Rantall, Peter Bedford, Barry Round, Greg Williams, Gerard Healy, Paul Kelly, Tony Lockett, Adam Goodes and Barry Hall.

I don't want to narrow it down further than that, as that would require much more reflection and consideration than I have time for right now.

As a Victorian based Swans supporter, I have read about all those greats of the past, but I haven't seen them play have I? I admire players like Cresswell, he was brilliant. And Kirk, Cresswell and Dunkley would be in the top 20.

But if you're asking about the best players I've seen play, then that is a different question. I'm not willing to rank them but the four certainties would be Kelly, Lockett, Goodes and Hall. I would also have Kirk, O'Loughlin, Roos and Cresswell there. After that, Barry, Kennelly, Dunkley and Schwass would be fighting it out for the final two spots.

But don't you think that Kirk playing in a successful side would be better than some of the players that didn't?
