Instead of Francis, who was sub and played forward?

Because that's what you said.

In the squad yes, start someone else as the sub not that hard. Francis went as well as I expected lol

Surely we're not gonna pot Papley - a bloke with zero doubt over his competitiveness - for a 30 second video hours after the game?

I don't really like it when players are laughing and joking seconds after the siren in a belting, but this is just a bit of fun.

What a shit game. Even Darcy Jones - aka the only Giants player I actually like watching - didn't even do much
You said it… Mind you as much as I dislike Toby Greene who isnt the whole GWS team…you have to acknowledge the intensity that GWS brought in 2nd half.. The cloud of the miserable GF losses just haunts this Sydney team - you never know what you are going to get week in week out. At least be consistent …either perform for 4 quarters or just dont perform so fans know where they stand

I’ve said it before. For us to be tough enough to repeatedly prevail through a gruelling H&A, to be tough enough to qualify for finals, to be tough enough to prevail through the searing intensity of finals to make the Granny, but just not be tough enough to compete in a Granny - that’s a very specific, narrow-spectrum mental issue.

We’ve all said we’re not remotely confident how we’d go if we ever make another GF, and that’s true, but I think that incredibly narrow-spectrum confidence issue will plague us at random points throughout every season for a very long time.

I feel like for long-term mental toughness, consistently coming about 11th or 12th would actually be mentally healthier, and put us in better stead for winning that elusive flag.

Interesting post. Historically, we've always been better as the underdog.

I'm a big proponent of this. 2 capitulations, albeit GF's, is not a statistically significant sample size in determining how bad we are. Losing a GF is a 50/50 chance, and getting smashed is just a simple possibility in the world of football, it can happen to the best of the best. Sometimes it even comes down to sheer shit luck.

What is a statistically significant sample size however, is making 2 GF's in 3 years, because the body of work throughout a season to make it to the final day is too much for it to be considered luck or coincidence.

But i don't look at it negatively like you are here, i don't think the mental issue around it is as big as what it is made out to be. I think it's just pure man-made hysteria for the sake of sensationalism. Unfortunately though, a lot of people are buying into it, including our coach who is seemingly hell bent on changing our whole set up based on those 2 games which puts our successful chemistry at risk.

If you're good enough to make it to the gf, you're good enough to win it. Goes for both teams - but one has to lose - so there doesn't have to be a deeper meaningful reason or issue for the losing team every time, even if that is 2 gf's on the bounce that were smashings. Our best chance to make another GF and win it is to continue doing what we were doing in those 2 seasons, because you have to be able to make it first which is bloody hard in itself. Trying to figure out another way is just too hard of a task and not worth the risk of throwing off the balance in a side that has proven it can make a GF.

You could replay last years GF 10 times over for 10 weeks straight with the same players, same coach, same tactics - and i guarantee brisbane won't win all of them. A few will go our way, with one or two potentially being big margins too, that's just the nature of footy. It's basically a lucky dip as to which one of those results is going to occur, and we've drawn the short straw 4 times in a row now. It's unfair and unlucky, but it was always a possibility.

I'm reminded of something Paul Roos once said. He said there's only about 4-5 goals difference between the best and worst side in the competition on their day, and anything beyond that in a game is on the losers. I tend to agree with that. 80+ points to one team in a half of football is about the other team, every single time IMO. That's North Melbourne/West Coast areas.

I've got no ideas for how to fix this team. The horrible losses have just been mounting in recent years and are threatening to undo a lot of the good that's been in-between. There's such clear mental issues that have reared their heads so many times now that we've probably tried every single different angle and approach imaginable to remedy them. And none seem to have worked.

So, I'm stumped.

I love R2

Crowd of 18,000 most of whom were Swans.

Fold GWS & tell Finn Callaghan to report to Driver Avenue.
Totally off topic midweek musing, but who would be our #1 target if all GWS players were available, but we could take only one?
Sam Taylor, just turned 26,198 cm KPD, who is equally adept 1 on 1 as he is intercepting, would be mine.

For all the Callaghan love , he only had 1 possession in the last Q
