List Mgmt. Mid Season Draft 2025 - Wed 28th May

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Dogs, Pies, North and Gold Coast all nominating for 2 picks, Port for 3, Dons for 4.
We're the only club going in just the once. Wild.

You could have just added Newman onto the list earlier this year, Carlton, then if things turned around he could have been removed by AFL approval when someone else inevitably went down.

How do you always plan this badly, all the time?
They must believe Newman is a chance to get back this season.

Who would you prefer - a bog-average mid-season draft pick, or Nick Newman back on the ground?

It’s a no brainer.

Newton has a similar profile to Durdin. An undersized mid who was moved to a half forward flank. Feels like revolving small forward deck chairs to me if we pick him. But I could be wrong.
So then you know Carlton will pick him up. Our recruiting team and list managers aren't up to scratch.

I could understand it if we were going to make finals or if he is available to play at least the last 6-8 games, otherwise they should have put him on the LTI list

There are very good players out there, I feel we don't put enough research into this area as is shown from our "safe" options pre season. Are we chasing another small forward or a gun mid who we will play forward?

I will be legit shocked if we picked up another small forward, I keep hearing we use the mid season draft to get ahead of the draft in November but we have a small forward/mid in Gresham for the taking as a discounted NGA already who is likely better.

I reckon we’ll take a tall that can play forward/back/ruck in the eve increasing likelihood TDK goes, that to me is “getting ahead of the main draft”

Newman may well be close & if he is how likely is it he’d be ok sitting out when he’s ready to go?

It not just about playing finals.

He’s one of our best & most consistent players, using his great kicking from HB - also into F50…

Not sure anyone we can find in the MSD can add the same value.

As I said, if there is a good sample of games for him to play, super, if there are only 2-3 games, I don't see the point

Less than 10 hours til we welcome our new 300+ game, dual-Norm Smith winning, triple-premiership captain - get excited folks!

Can't believe the club hasn't gone all Tonya Harding on Nic Newman so we could also grab our 250+ game, 1000+ career goals key forward. Missed opportunity.

You mean we are likely to pick up a Sam Durham, Jai Newcombe or a Massimo A'mbrosio? Looking forward to it then

Archer May badly wants to get to Collingwood. The Pies told him not to play last weekend and to nominate for an 18 month contract.

Does his Pies passion make other clubs ignore him?

Not at all, every draftee has a team they have supported and would love to get to.

I have very little faith in our recruiting team and think they put very little research in to the lower leagues.

At the start of the season we were able to sign two players from across the country via the SSP, any league, any team, anyone who was willing, our recruitment team decided that the two best players across the country were already playing at the worst VFL team in the league, what luck.

If White and Evan’s hadn’t of been picked by us earlier, where would they go tonight?

Better, there's a Scott Pendlebury just waiting to be snapped up, and just our luck he'll last to Pick 4!

Buddy Franklin mk2 would have still been there at Pick 12, but we've missed out on him because Nic Newman is a selfish jerk who wants to play football.

Just wait until this Liam McMahon gets picked up by Essendon, has 5 touches and kicks 1.1 in his first game. That’ll show the club for not putting our reigning 2 time runner up in the BNF on the LTI list cause he’s a selfish prick and wants to play

Buddy Franklin wouldn't get a kick in our forward setup.

Not sure where you've picked that up from my posts?

What have your posts got to do with it? :P

I posted a standalone comment poking fun at the angst some people have about the club not opening up a second spot - you replied to me, and I doubled down on my personally amusing commentary.

No idea how you feel about the subject, I barely pay attention to poster names these days - just the general vibe of a discussion.

Nick Newman is 32 years of age (turns 33 in Jan) not sure he is the one to be turning our on field performances around.

The point is we have one of our best players, playing.

It’s what he’s paid to do.

We miss his leadership, his defensive skills & his effective kicking.

Not sure why we’d want to take up more Cap room so we can bring in a plodder - while Newy twiddles his thumbs.

Pick 4 ...

What pick/s do Carlton have?

Carlton will have one solitary pick in the 2025 AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft, which comes in at pick No.4: they are expected to be one of eight clubs to make at least one selection on the night.

The Blues opened up a list spot following the season-ending Achilles injury to forward Brodie Kemp sustained during Gather Round.
