The rumours suggest that a couple of clubs including Carlton are looking at Newton ahead of tomorrows mid season draft. While he went undrafted last year, Newton had his admirers and may have been a victim of the unusually deep draft pool. He had some exciting moments at the Champs for SA, and looks to have progressed nicely early this season with Norwood, already having a strong impact at SANFL level.

Looks good. Does he come in adult size?

We definitely don't need another small forward.

Our issue is the lack of a third marking target. What we desperately need is a 192-194 cm athletic forward who can take a mark and provide pressure on the ground.

If that isn't available (and it isn't - players like that are rarely just floating around out there) I would love to have a crack at Rod Ali as a long-term prospect.

What I expect will happen is that we'll take another 179cm small forward and take ourselves one step closer to the dream of being able to suit up Tom De Koning (for the ruck contests), Weitering (as an intercept defender) and 21 small forwards who can corral the opposition (without ever actually tackling...) to perfection.

Have we figured out which one paced poorly skilled inside mid Austin will be selecting tomorrow?

We desperately need some depth in that area.
Hey we might have get some luck. Think that was the thinking behind Lord and he turned out to be one of our better kicks 😂

Dogs, Pies, North and Gold Coast all nominating for 2 picks, Port for 3, Dons for 4.

We're the only club going in just the once. Wild.

You could have just added Newman onto the list earlier this year, Carlton, then if things turned around he could have been removed by AFL approval when someone else inevitably went down.

How do you always plan this badly, all the time?

No offence to Jacob Newton but surely their are better options than another slow small forward who only averages 8 possessions and 2.5 tackles a game this season.

Fogarty, Williams, Motlop, Durdin, White, Moir, Elijah, Evans, Fantasia and possibly Newton that’s almost 1/4 of our list devoted to the half forward/ small forward position and not one of them has genuine speed.

Majority of the above list also have other limitations such as kicking skills or natural football smarts surely a big clean out of the above list is needed not one of them would get a game at the cats, lions, pies, dogs, crows or hawks.

Pretty Poor we use 1 pick in the draft not 2 no wonder club is a basketcase Wooden Spoon Specialist. E Holland should be demanded by the AFL and Club to take rest of season. I think i would delist him of the list if his out of contract doesn't in my opinion deserve list spot over the kids in VFL and Cincotta who likely a casualty . Nic Newman is another should know we give him a contract next year should go to club telling them im preparing next year. I hope Wright get the broom out doesn't extend contracts to E. Holland, Newman, Mcgovern, Dochetry and trade Mckay all are not necessary needed time to make a stand and anyone else want to hijack the club

Their isn't many and likely best he isn't that slow plus can play midfield

Archer May badly wants to get to Collingwood. The Pies told him not to play last weekend and to nominate for an 18 month contract.

Does his Pies passion make other clubs ignore him?

If we draft a tall forward, the conspiracy theorist in me will be in overdrive, you dont need to add a key forward if you have two big key forwards tied to long term deals and a key forward in the 2s in his 3rd season.

If we grabbed a tall forward id be convinced its because one will leave, now to me that’s still most likely Lemmey but speculation will be rife.

We should remember that our draft is most likely locked in, Dean, ISON, Gresham and Clarke, so if the club thinks Lemmey will be chopped, now is the time to replace him.
Why would the club do that and hold on to players like Holland and Mckay who don't take the club serious rock up when they feel like it. Why would not give a young player time in AFL has the club have it favourite giving early games to OFarrell and Camporeale both with connection to club. Lemmy and Wilson in my view deserve another contact get rid of the cancer in the club the over 30 finished lot and players that talk about Premiership are not everything get rid of those overpaid lot that turn up when they want too.

Ha, think Dermie was a Collingwood supporter when growing up.

No. That’s what drafts are all about, going to the club that selects you.
They could have selected him before this.
