Pretty lazy and there might be an answer earlier in the thread, but are there any good guides for mega-n00bs?

Much like Mass Effect, put it down because I was no good - but a second play through years later showed persistence is the key.

I'm pretty sure there's a Minecraft Wiki. That should tell you all you need to know. :thumbsu:

Can you restart the server when you get a chance HBK? Rain was lagging me hard and accidentally tried /stop. Yeah, guess that stops the server. That was dumb. :o

Should be good, read it auto saves and does no damage. Can't get on at the moment though.
lol, yeah would've been fine regardless.

Stopping the rain is '/weather sun'.;)

Have restarted the server.

As EBIAC said use the Minecraft wiki as that will help with what you need to craft, etc.

The key really is to know that there's no goal to the game. It's really just whatever you want to do.

Main keys are to build yourself a hut/house usually where you initially spawn and out of whatever you have (dirt first, then upgrade to cobblestone, etc.).

Then go mining in mines you find around the world (generally again best to dig right under your hut/house as it's the easiest to get back to your hut/house to put your stuff in.

Guys why don't you move the roller coaster to outside the structure, finish the G then integrate it with the structure.

Maybe even save a copy of the pristine structure for distribution and add the fun fair into a second version? You could make it do a tour of the boxes, the walkways, arch out over the ground etc.

This was just a fun little side project. The G thing was getting a little overwhelming and needed some lightening up.

We have no issues with going back to the G now.

Also, news of Minecraft and it's next big update.

Bows Get Mighty

Instead of bows that limply toss arrows a few feet, players will now be able to draw back arrows longer, firing farther and with great effect. Holding arrows will make you move slower, but make the bow an effective first-person weapon great for taking out the even tougher new enemies.

Poison and Night Terrors

Spiders are already a nuisance in the world of Minecraft, but now they poison their prey. The resulting moments of panic as you watch your life tick away even after their death are sure to make exploring all the more treacherous.

Also appearing are the Endermen, a new monster that will attack you if you look directly at it. You can try to run if you want, but it will teleport to your location repeatedly. They are apparently vulnerable to water, though, so find a pool to run into if you incur their wrath.

Lastly, players will soon be battling Silverfish. These monsters lurk inside the very blocks that players mine, making each swing of a pickaxe a potentially violent affair.

Quests, NPCs and Experience

No quests or NPCs were on display in the PAX demo, but representatives from developer Mojang said that NPCs will be added in the update. Players will then obtain quests from these NPCs. No details are available as to the nature of those quests, but it should give players more to do than build yet another effigy to whatever nerd god they worship.

Killing monsters and other creatures will yield experience, giving players skill points. How skill points will be spent is still being decided, but Mojang has decided that experience will be lost if the player dies. The goal is to make death even more costly, making survival all the more precious.

Eat to Live

Currently food is used in Minecraft to instantly gain health, but now food is necessary to exist. A hunger meter is being added, and the only way to gain health is to max out your meter. This means there's no more button mashing the food key at the last minute in a heated battle, as consuming takes time, with health regeneration taking even longer.
Don't really like the last one.

Survival's pretty easy at the moment. It needs something like that.
I feel it'd be fine for a while. But eventually it'd just become a tedious annoyance that you just don't want there.

I reckon it'll be the other way around.

We'll find we'll get used to it.

Right now it's dig, plant torches, dig, plant torches. You need never see a monster unless you dig into a cavern and then you just hang back and stab them from around a corner.

I got bored and switched on fly mode. Now I'm building a massively tall medieval keep. This thing will have internal waterfalls.

Oh btw, if I can get a round about figure on those willing to pay for the server rental that'd be great.

I'm thinking getting however many are willing to pay and then dividing that into the $20 so it's an even buy in. If people are happy with that, then so am I.:)

Tell you what I'll spring for the $20.
Wow, that'd be awesome Chiefly!

We could even go for a 2nd month with everyone chipping in for that and if we're done with the G project we could take a look at some of the other worlds out there?

Do you want me to send my paypal details Chief?

Love your work, Chiefton. A new car and house would also be great. :thumbsu:

If we opt for a second month, I'm here to offer some cash.

I'm crawling out the other side of my insanely busy few days now. I've just got tomorrow and tomorrow night to go, then I'll be right back into this thing. :thumbsu:

Yes please send PayPal deets.

Also, having great fun with the clay soldiers mod:

http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Mods/Clay_Soldiers_Mod

Set up an arena with various traps (dispensers and sticky pistons with stone crushers attached), items to power them up and two or more holding pens sealed by pistons.

Load up the soldiers and horses and let rip.

Saw the video of the minecraft update. Looks interesting.

You spawn in a village. There are new mobs called the enderman, who will only attack when you look at them (put the crosshair over them). They teleport and can throw blocks at you.

There's sprinting and critical hits too.
