I have finally defeated Minesweeper on advanced. IMO it is the greatest achievement in my PC gaming career.

623 seconds I managed it in after a shitload of attempts.

Anyone else managed to beat it and what were your times?

dude. they should have made the movie 'I Am Legend' after you. and I am not being patronizing, that is a top effort. how the hell did you manage that??

Haha. Just logical thinking and luck in the end really.

The first 20 or so mines are quite easy to find, especially if you get a good start, then it basically flows on from there till about 30 mines to go when it starts to get rigged. You really do just hope to God that what your about to click is going to be fine.

After so many bloody attempts though you do sort of work out a strategy and its gets quicker to find the mines, though its pretty much impossible to explain on an internet forum.

My best on beginner is 11 seconds.

Best on intermediate is 58

I remember beating advanced years ago but cant remember what I got.

My best is 153 seconds

Once you know what to look for its just a matter of how fast you are with a mouse.

Also if you don't already know you can clear all the uncovered squares around a number by clicking the left and right mouse buttons together. For this to work you must have put in the right amount of flags.

So for example the number 2 is showing, if you put 2 flags on any of the surrounding squares and then click both mouse buttons on the number 2 all unmarked squares will be cleared. If a mine is marked incorrectly you will uncover a mine and lose the game. Hope that made sense:D

If you can finish faster than 1 mine per second then you're considered pretty good.

i.e.
less than 10 seconds for Beginner
less than 40 seconds for Intermediate
less than 99 seconds for Expert

I used to play this heaps back in primary school (on Win 3.1 no less!) and it was the best feeling ever when I cracked that 100 second barrier for Expert :D. Once you play it for a while, you recognise patterns and it becomes almost second nature to you how to clear that area.

Can't remember exactly my best times but there would be around
2 seconds for Beginner (have to be very lucky and get a good board)
20 seconds for Intermediate
70 seconds for Expert.

Erch....absolutely hate this game....

It's one of the main reasons I never went on to become a doctor or nuclear physicist or something.

Beginner: 3, 3, 4, 5, 5 seconds
Intermediate: 17, 26, 42, 45, 49
Expert: 117, 178, 360, 23 hours 57 minutes, 14 seconds**

**The first time I ever beat it on expert, had to leave the computer turned on overnight until class the next day**

Just had a go now, after not playing in more than 10 years.

Beginner: 11 seconds
Intermediate: 1min12seconds
Expert:......
