from a saints supporter. ****ing LOL. good call.

David Swallow. Absolutely and definitively the best youngster to ever come through the draft number 1. 2 seasons in and he really hasnt been super standout awesome to the level required to help in a premiership team.

Different for a talented player in a new franchise but if we got a top ranked junior and mixed him in amongst Shuey,Gaff,Naitanui ,Masten,Darling and Scooter well all he had to do was play and learn and have fun .Unlike Swallow who is carrying the responsiblity of being a team leader ..

He would.

Has been smashed pillar to post at GC. Put him in a top 4 side and he would be the next Joel Selwood.

Will be very interesting comparing Jaegar O'Meara's next couple of seasons against David Swallows first two.

If we give up Brown to GWS as a trade for a mini-draft pick... who says we can't fill that role elsewhere? Sheesh, it's not like we're restricted to one trade. Trade Brown to GWS, find someone else to fill the hole. Simple.

Agree, a Thornton or a Bower from Carlton can provide that 3rd tall backup in case we lose one of Schofield, Glass or Emac.

Why wouldn't we trade a fringe player for a early top 5 pick? We are not talking about a walk up best 22 player here.

Which brings me to my next point. Would rather Swallow/Coniglio before MD anyway.
Never going to get that. The MD is another of the AFL's magical fairy picks which spring into existence once GWS trade them away. Coniglio is real and would be a loss to GWS, they don't lose anything over a MD pick and could trade it for Byron Schammer if they wanted.

Can't believe this thread still has air.

Mitch Brown for a mini-draft pick? I guess we'll package our pick from Koby, and our first rounder, and...

It's not going to happen.

I don't think Brown even wants to leave. He knew how this was going to play out when he signed that contract - nothing has changed since.

Great call:oops:

Did anyone actually expect us to play a part in mini-draft negotiations. With our draft position, it's entirely understandable that we'd be a non-factor.

With GC acquiring the 2 best young talents, turns out to have been a farce in the end.

Surely the AFL predicted this?

Pretty much just a sneaky way for the expansion sides to further rort the draft.

Now GC have Swallow, O'Meara, Bennell and Martin. Cleaned up on WA's best. Add Coniglio at GWS and you have one of the most bumper crops of top end youngsters I have seen as a football fan all gobbled up by the expansion sides.

Heck GC even turned down Darling as a prelist, so I am thankful we got away with one of them.

IIRC the AFL said they introduced these picks so clubs could acquire mature players. The AFL, being the AFL, did not consider the possibility that clubs will just give early draft picks for them, great foresight. The net result is the expansion clubs ended up with even more high end draft picks and no mature players ensuring they stay at the bottom for the first few years and get even more early picks.

I can't believe the AFL didn't prevent them from being traded for picks. Seems so obvious
