Toast Mitch Brown

Still needs stronger hands.:D

If Mitch Brown can step up as a key forward and J-Pod maintains his excellency, wow we will have another pair of Mooney-N Ablett.

As for tomahawk, just try not to "observe" before kicking. numbers of chances were ruined in his hands.

Nooooo definately not another Mooney - Ablett, Brown and jPod can kick straight!!

Not to mention throwing Vardy and Ottens into the forward line..... :D

Collingwood can keep their Cloake and Brown!!

Mitch Brown had beautiful body position in a number of contests, just not quite strong enough yet to be able to hold against bigger bodies. His hands look sure and his kicking even surer!

Don't dig into the Tomahawk too much, he presented and did a number of good things on the weekend....he also missed a few opportunites which seem to be as much a confidence issue as an ability. He will continue in the two's for sometime yet, but when he does rediscover that confidence he could be a vital inclusion.

Very encouraging debut even though I admit to shutting my eyes whenever he got crunched , thank God he pulled up OK. Seemed to stay in the contest even when out of position and brought the ball to ground well , looks like a natural footballer. Can kick straight as well which is a novelty for a KPF at the Cats !!

Yes, very happy with his contested work and his ability to hold his position in the 3rd qtr where we kicked 2 crumbing goals from him bringing the ball to ground. They all got around him after Menzel kicked his crumbing goal after he was crunched in a 2 on 1. Great stuff from the kid.

His kicking technique is superb and his burst through the middle in the 2nd to get into space was pure athleticism. He probably should have kicked the goal but was to unselfish by handballing to Motlop whom missed.

Plenty to look forward to and may yet even figure in September if he continues to develop rapidly.

Played really well.

Still would be happy for him to spend the rest of the year in the 2's though, needs another pre season, probably two, before his body is ready for the rigours of a key position.

Reads the play really well though and has clean hands, definitely a talent.

Somehow doubt it'll be 2013 before he's a regular in the ones. That's certainly not the view of the Match Committee if the comments by Nigel Lappin about Mitch before his debut are any indication.

Oh! And don't narrow your gaze to him only playing in a key position.

Ammo I was talking about what I'd LIKE to happen, as other posters have said in relation to Mitch. I'm well aware that won't happen and he will play a lot more ones this year.

And yes of course he doesn't have to play in a key position, nor should he at this stage.

Yep! I fully appreciate the nature of your posts PO. Don't go all defensive on me. It's not personal.:)

I was surprised that they used him primarily as the 'go to long bomb' option rather than the hit up flanker type which I believe would suit him better at this stage of his development. They sat the ball on top of his head 5 or 6 times and to his credit he held is position and brought the ball to ground. Next year he will be marking a few of those like Watts is doing now. He is a super talent and his movement around the forward line reminds me of Barry Stoneham.

Sorry, I wasn't meaning to sound defensive, I wasn't upset by your post at all. As always you are spot on with what you say.

Just indicating my personal feeling of tornness between kid with lots of talent and kid who's body needs not to be overloaded at this stage. Good though isn't it, Brown and Vardy, very good.

Would like him to play a lot of games between now and the middle of August. I'd be disappointed if they drop him for Mooney in the next fortnight.

Reads the game like a good player.

Thought Hawkins was ok. Seemed to be working much harder at ground level. One kick to Pods for a goal was a beautiful pass. Needs to do more, but far more promising.

He was fine for a debutant but I thought in a contested situation he showed he has a long way to go still to be an AFL key forward and the guy he was playing on was a kid as well.

Finally getting a taste was fine, now he needs a few big (and non injury interrupted please) pre seasons.

like menzel , christensen and duncan, great young guys playing good footy. geelong is lucky to have these guys for the future.!!!

With strength and better hands will be a player. A good debut. Keep him in the team till he starts to tire physically then reassess.

Big guys play VFL too. He's just as likely to get hurt in the VFL as the AFL, so I reckon play him in the AFL if he's ready

He really looks like he's going to be a great player

Also, not sure if he is ever going to be 'big' so even with a couple more years in the gym he may not bulk up that much more. He's got more of a Mackie frame than a Mooney

Needs to play a few games in the AFL over the back end of the season. We play a few bottom 8 teams in the same period - and these may well be excellent opportunities for him to get some AFL experience. Plenty of opportunities down forward to mark and kick goals.

Play him off the HFF or FP - in maybe another 3-4 games.

I think we will know a bit more about his skill level then. Let's hope it happens. Not sure it will.

He is obviously a long way from the final product but i saw glimpse of a really good player, attacking the contest was great and he seems to have some good footy smarts 2 things that don't seem to come natural to Hawkins, on top of that Brown looks a lovely kick

yeh I was thinking the same, hopefully it's only because of the shoulder injury that has restricted his arms from putting on much needed bulk. Got good size legs but the upper body is very lean (Federer like) with all that tape around the shoulders would likely be the reason why he's never got a full 12 months of training into the upper body. Probably got rock hard abs and thighs though:thumbsu:

Mitch's big strength is his ability to run for long periods at near top pace. It was hard to see how he was running on the box.

He is one player who will love playing at the G.

His kicking for goal did look extremely good on Sunday ......... Surprising after three years in our system!!
