For the Lions, Mitch Clark stood tall in the absence of skipper Jonathan Brown, kicking five goals and having the better of his duel with Ben Rutten.

Re: Mitch Clark

Clarky was fantastic today. With a nice open forward line led to the right spot numerous times and took a number of great marks on the lead. Also led wide on the wings a few times for marks as well as deep inside 50 being the target for the long kick forward.

Brilliant game.

Re: Mitch Clark

Clark happy with increased game time
By Michael Whiting

“I love the game time and I think most of the boys do, but that’s the way footy’s going these days," he said. "I like the old school way of taking your opponent on one on one and trying to run them into the ground. I can’t impact the game as much if I’m playing 50 to 60 per cent game time... that’s the way it’s gone this year. I probably had that responsibility up forward where I had to stand up and I enjoy that challenge so whether it’s up forward or in the ruck I’m just trying to add strings to my bow.”

Voss agreed that Clark played his best football when he was “the man”. “He looked fairly ominous for us when the ball was coming forward," Voss said. "He crashed the packs when he was against two or three, his individual work rate was quite high and he had an impact at ground level. If we can play Mitch in more of that role in the future it’d be fairly handy. I’d still like to keep him as a ruckman, but it’s always balance of the list and being able to utilise your resources.”

Re: Mitch Clark

Showed why he was drafted as a forward. Would love to see him doing stints up forward more often.

Yeah I agree. I would like to see him do stints at CHF and full forward, along with stints in the ruck during games - and that is even with Brown and Fevola in the team. Although probably only two of them at the most should be in the forward 50 at any one time, but with Brown sometimes pushing up the ground we could have Clark and Fevola playing at full forward every now and then during games.

Also, when Brown needs a bit of a rest during a game, I would use Clark at CHF and keep Brown and Fevola in the forward 50.

(obviously all of this is predicated on Fevola getting back to the level of fitness he had at Carlton, otherwise we could be too top heavy).

Lynden Dunn, Mitch Clark, Scott Pendlebury . . . what these blokes are doing for the 'tash should really be celebrated with a '70s porno backing track.

Brendan Fevola's season-ending groin injury meant Michael Voss needed to restructure his forward line from round 17. He turned to Mitch Clark. The Lions have won two of the last three matches with the versatile big man in attack, and have produced their two largest scores since round seven. Subject to Jonathan Brown's availability, Clark has floated between full-forward and centre half-forward and has averaged 18 possessions and nine marks in the past month. He also kicked an equal career-high five goals against Adelaide, mixing strong hands, a quick lead and good work at ground level.

Re: Mitch Clark

Was so disappointing tonight, Clark played with no spirit, he refused to chase grundy who picked up disposals with ease, gave away stupid free kicks and generally looked like he deserved to be given everything on a platter. Imo, Clark has epitomised what has gone wrong with the Lions this year. He has all the talent in the world, but a lack of workrate when the going gets tough has seen him have a terribly inconsistent year. He really needs an attitude change over the offseason otherwise he may become just another player that didnt reach his full potential

Re: Mitch Clark

Nearly looked born again playing up forward the last few weeks. He is too good to not play, but he needs to play a single role to get the most out of him. It will be something the coaching staff need to figure out over the pre season. He can do the part time ruck duties to give Bergs a rest, but outside of that Bergs needs to and should be rucking. Has looked the best up forward, perhaps we need to look at him as a roaming 3rd tall forward for next year.

I think he needs to accept that he is a player who has the ability to play 4 or 5 different roles and that the team will perform better if he can demonstrate more adaptability. For all his faults, a guy like Brennan is now becoming more adaptable "in game". Staker is one who shows no discomfort with being moved around to fill gaps. Clark needs to do the same.

Re: Mitch Clark

I think it's just more his strength of running his opponent down being how fit and fast he is for his size though. I think he is able to play a variety of roles for us, he just struggles playing as an on baller because of the rotations. Matching him up with someone the same size, he will our run just about anyone, he has a great tank. He needs to play a role that allows him to use it, and i think it's in our best interest to try find that role for him. Whether that is up forward, down back or in the ruck, or all 3 changing every week. He just needs a role where he plays big game time. Interchange cap might help him in the coming years as well.

Re: Mitch Clark

It’s been a long and tough season. We started off well and there was a lot of hype going into the season, particularly surrounding our recruiting. Coming into season 2010, we lost a few very good people from our football club, including Daniel Bradshaw who is one of my great mates. Throughout the season we dug ourselves into a bit of a hole but as a group we come out of it with a newfound appreciation for potential success in the future.

The Gold Coast Suns enter the competition over this off-season and we’re not quite sure what impact it will have on our club. As we move forward we can learn a lot from this year, not just as players but also as a football club. The boys are already looking forward to an intense pre-season leading into Round 1 next year.

LIONS star Mitch Clark was thrown out of a Brisbane pub on Sunday night after allegedly urinating on a cigarette machine. The 22-year-old ruckman was drinking with teammate Daniel Merrett at The Fox Hotel in South Brisbane when the alleged incident occured around 8.30pm.

Bouncers removed the pair and West End police observed their removal. The pair left the hotel peacefully. Police spoke to Clark about the incident, but he was not arrested and hotel management declined to press charges.

Re: Mitch Clark

I just wanted to say that Jamar making the AA team this year makes an even bigger mockery of Clark's omission last year, given the "need of a consistent year or two in the lead-up to a break-out year for AA inclusion" that was the alleged thought process behind leaving him out.
