I thought that was the case as well but I don't think so, that was just a holiday I think.

Been training at the Richmond Boxing Club going by his twitter.

Word was and some people in media think je returned to live in Perth. However as you have stated his twitter indicates he is living in Melbourne.

I heard about a month back that Saints had been speaking to him. Dunno what and if any progress from there was made. Not even sure if he's dead keen to return.
Can you still swing it as "speaking to him" if he never responded in the first place?

Wouldn't be surprised if other clubs spoke to him if word is he may return

I think that's a given once the money well runs dry and gets good treatment.

Mitch would find it pretty insulting if we tried. One of the reasons he gave for leaving the clubs was receiving paychecks that he felt weren't justified due to his inability to play. He'd be keen to get a fresh slate, and be wanting to prove his worth.
Kind of ironic considering that is why he signed for Melbourne in the first place

It would be ridiculous if he played in 2015 for anyone other than Melbourne. It would create a precedent where a player could say they are having mental problems just to get to their team of choice the following year.

If it did get approved, next minute....

"Breaking News: Melbourne announce 40 players will retire at the end of the season
"

Two weeks later:

"Breaking News: None have been picked up by other clubs." :P

He's still in contact with the club, I think he's warming to the idea and is increasing his training load.

Regardless of which club he ends up at it would be a shame if he didn't come back, at full flight he is great to watch

He's 'retired' - not a 'de-listed free agent'.

So he would have to come back via the draft.

Of course he has the option to bypass the national draft and go straight to the preseason draft...

You mean like mal michael retiring from brisbane and then signing with essendon a few weeks later?

If something happened it would be an interesting one. He retired but is still currently on the demons list and they are de-listing him at the end of the year according to this article http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-04-08/demon-clark-retires

If he wanted to come back and play AFL football again I would imagine there could be two outcomes.

1) They've already signed the settlement contracts between himself and Melbourne and Melb would be required to de-list him come the end of the season, which technically he becomes a delisted free agent

or

2) The contract wasn't officially finalised and he's still on Melb's list in which case he either plays for them under his existing contract for the next 2 years or is traded to another club.

If his settlement was all signed and done there's not much Melb could do about it I'd imagine unless there was some stipulation in there that he wasn't allowed to play AFL football again for X number of years.

Option 3

According to the AFL website:
"Players delisted by a club are unrestricted free agents but a player who retires or delists himself is not eligible to be a free agent."

That will depend on whether he is delisted by melbourne or not at the end of the year I guess. All hinges on what was in his severance contract I guess. Still I see him coming back to the afl as unlikely personally.

If his contract has been null and voided with agreement of both parties; himself and Melbourne FC; he would have to be considered a free standing player that is required to nominated himself for the draft and play for whoever choses to use a ND pick or Pre-Season draft pick.

That would be my understanding at least.

The AFL would probably create some rule to let us have him, that or the Saints would overlook him in the PSD with the express knowledge that he would walk away from the game if they picked him.

It's an unprecedented situation (even including Mal Michael) that's for sure.

Trying to remember how Lockett got back on the Swans list in his ill-fated comeback. Anyone remember?

I guess no one else really wanted him in that condition anyway.
