Making a joke about his depression, haha good one
Are you sure it was a joke? Melbourne didn't exactly have a great culture at the time Mitch was there.

And anyway, you are the one who said:
Yes, it should never be forgotten how serious his mental health issues were at Melbourne, his doctor was very concerned for his well being playing footy at the highest level, until of course Geelong ponied up the green, after that he seemed to make a miraculous recovery.

You are the one who said:

Yes i did, the reality is that Geelong did not do the right thing by Clark. He was no where near ready for the pressure of AFL footy but your club got greedy and thought they could get a gun forward on the cheap.

As someone who's battled severe depression my entire life (for reasons I'm just discovering), I agree, it's tasteless

I'm unsure about the legitimacy of clark's illness, mainly because it tends to come across as an excuse for poor form, rather than a reason
Again, that's my perception on it, given how I've battled my illness
I understand that it may not be the way I see it, and am affected by my experiences in my judgement

From what i understand i think it's real. Melbourne developed a plan for him to come back as a rookie and therefore no pressure to perform. It was a plan formed with input from his doctor and designed to help him not only with his football but his health.
But Geelong dangled the dollars and thought they could get a gun forward cheaply, they really failed him big time but he was seduced by money. He should never have been put under so much pressure to perform, absolutely disgraceful but that club.

If Clark hadn't confidently said that he was ready for the pressure of AFL footy, I am certain Geelong would not have recruited him. There's no way he could have foreseen the shit he'd have to deal with after coming back, no one could've.

OP had good intentions but this thread is already a storm of flippancy, skepticism and just plain ignorance regarding Clark and specifically his experience with depression. Isn't that just wonderful.

So a bloke who has severe depression makes a bad decision, what a ****ing surprise.

Perhaps Geelong should have worked with his doctor for more than 12 months before putting him out on the field.

Absolutely disgraceful and the results prove it

Go in the corner and have a cry :'( ..........None else is....

He should get one more year, the potential is always there and maybe his new twins will keep him in a good place. Unlike some, I have respect for Mitch Clark, depression is a campaigner.
Great post, from what I understand he's doing everything and more to achieve his goals and promises to himself, his family and the club. The easy thing to do is give up and let the illness take over. It's bloody tough to fight through.

Having a cry? What a bizarre response although i have nfi what your last bit is trying to say.

Why would i cry over Geelong ****ing up Clark's career and health? It's very sad and it's a shame you can't take it seriously

It is a surprise. You talk like someone with depression can't make decisions for themselves, don't know who they are or what they want. It is often exactly the opposite. Yes, of course, you need help and support, but in the end no one knows or understand you like yourself. From my experiences, (and I have been lucky not to experience it to the lengths and levels others have) I can say depression did not make me think any less clearly than usual.

No doubt the club would have consulted with his doctor. Working with him/her for 12 months before putting Mitch on the field might have helped... but I feel he would've wanted to get into it as soon as feasibly possible. Waiting a year on the sidelines could quite possibly have had a negative impact.

And yes, it is the fault of the club that he has been sledged over his mental health, been unlucky enough to frequently get injured, had a struggle with form and then have his twins born two months early and almost die. Yes, of course it is.

from all reports he is a shit bloke. Doubt he will play for Geelong again, especially with Scott in charge.

His partner had premature twins a month ago. He is having time off to help with this. Not hard to fathom.

Will be a chance to play VFL finals if Cats get through elimination against bombers and contrary to other opinions played some pretty good footy up forward in the 2s.

Will get another contract next year.

Don't think he'll play any more AFL games. Too much of an individual, not enough of a team person, and clearly wasn't ready to come back to AFL when he did.

Is prone to making rash drastic life-changing decisions that affect all those around him and the clubs he works for, that makes for an unreliable servant to say the least.

Might be the perception of some but it's certainly unfair. Depression is caused by lower levels of dopamine and serotonin, chemicals that regulate your happiness and energy levels. He might be moody or pessimistic, but it's a reflection of an injured brain not necessarily a fair representation of his character.

Didn't he get dropped after that incident and has never returned?
No he was already in the VFL..with an injury...and with two premature babies who are still in intensive care

But whatever helps your agenda don't let the facts get in the way

Lol... Playing against us back then, would have been depressing...

His maraculus recovery after ditching the Dee's, was cringe worthy and just straight out wrong... He doesn't deserve to be at Geelong...
You remember that post match last year where he was crying into Chris Scott's shoulder?

Yeh.. Miraculously better..
