It absolutely is, but it doesn't excuse some of his more dubious actions since arriving at the Cats and indeed before.

Hopefully fatherhood is the making of the man, its really never too late to change.
I'm legitimately curious as to what these dubious actions are?

As far as I'm aware people don't like him because of the following

1) Told Brisbane he wanted to go home to WA, but then accepted a huge contract offer from Melbourne
2) Quit Melbourne and football altogether to deal with depression
3) Moved to Geelong with his girlfriend (who is/was attending Deakin), stated he wanted to play football again and signed for minimum $ with Geelong

What has he actually done that is so dubious? Getting injured? Making instragram posts about himself?

When he announced a return to football, after Melbourne released him from his contract out of goodwill, he returned to the club to train, use the facilities and staff to get him fit enough to return to football before telling the club that they weren't the ones he wanted to play for.

Took advantage of the club to get him where he wanted to go. He also shopped himself around and nearly signed with Collingwood before arriving at Geelong, so it wasn't just the fact that his girlfriend was studying an hour down the road that made him make that decision.

Melbourne released him from his contract because he retired from football, but they kept his rights and they traded him to Geelong. How do you think you ended up with Harry O?

I'm not huge fan of Clark's so don't take this as me being a Cats supporter who is trying to cover for my teams players, but I don't think he shopped himself around, I think that was a bit of a media blowup.

Anyway at the end of the day Clark has been fired from Geelong and Geelong is the clear loser in the trade deal as Clark has played about 10 games for us with basically no impact in any of them.

Yeah, I sighted him, in the Richmond v Geelong VFL match 3 or 4 weeks ago. Saw him smack one of the Richmond players on the back of the head whilst they were down on the ground. Also feigned a punch afterwards.

Melbourne could only trade him because of a rule the AFL introduced to prevent footballers from taking advantage of clubs by retiring then signing up as a DFA the next year. Melbourne also paid him a decent portion of his remaining contract to help him with his struggles. Melbourne did not need to do that, it was a gesture in good faith. For him to take advantage of the club after that was a bit of a slap in the face and why many Melbourne fans don't have much time for him.

He did shop himself around. Collingwood were absolutely certain he would be playing for them, interviews with Neil Balme and Nathan Buckley from the time make that very clear.

Isn't it common knowledge yet that geelong has already sacked him and he has left the club?

Haven't seen any news on this? Any source?

Not named in the VFL side for the past couple of weeks, deleted his twitter, removed anything related from Geelong on his instagram. He used to have "Geelong footballer" in his bio.

Nothing official, doubt anything will be released until our season is finished.

Would be very surprised to see another team take a punt on him. Seen the last of him at AFL level IMO.

Shame, we could have used his ability to ruck and pinchhit forward.

Fair enough. Good luck to him, shame he never got a good run at it.

Yes, it should never be forgotten how serious his mental health issues were at Melbourne, his doctor was very concerned for his well being playing footy at the highest level, until of course Geelong ponied up the green, after that he seemed to make a miraculous recovery.

Good for him

Yeah bullshit. Since when did he make a recovery?

Whites been ok, and 2 spuds are better than 3 anyway.
Collingwood has easily won the trade in hind sight. Clark has done nothing, Harry had a few good games last year but has otherwise done nothing and appears to have lost his mind in the process, where as TV has been solid for the Pies. Not a superstar but a contributor.

I'm all for looking after mental health - but the way he treated Melbourne was disgraceful.

Came back for another pay day from Geelong not a year after 'retiring'.

Has delivered doughnuts for both teams.

He would have got better $$$ at Melbourne or Collingwood than Geelong. It was a lifestyle decision, not a payday.
