Will Mitch make the Australian team again?? His bowling with his state team has been disapointing... With all the Guys like Pattinson, Starc etc with good bowling stats i carn't see him making the team.

Fast Bowlers:
Starc
Pattinson
Hilfey
Siddle

Saw him bowl in the one-dayer during the week and he was pretty rapid, high 140s, and was getting a bit of shape. Seems like he's lengthened his run up.

Wouldn't say he's finished at Test level.

Fair point.

By God I hope not. While at his best he is dangerous, he lacks the consistency and temperament for tests. Also a one trick pony (unless you count the pie chucks). Unless he develops that nice in swinger to the right handers, I wouldn't even bother raising his name.

A bit reactionary there. The 3 we have pacers at the moment, who are not slow by any means. For one reason or another, the GABBA wicket is slow and the ball is coming onto the batsmen quite nicely. We needed to make use of the new ball, but we obviously did not and are now paying the price. Hopefully tomorrow there is a bit of moisture about and with overcast conditions, you'd expect at least Hilfenhaus to move the ball around for the morning session.

I suspect you place too much importance on raw pace. Movement/swing is more important than pace, besides, Johnson is not that fast anymore, would be about the same as Siddle.

Why not try Shaun Tait if pace is your only criteria?

Line, length and ball movement will win out over pace any day of the week, with the caveat that you aren't so slow that the batsmen can adjust (i.e. Copeland). Johnson provides none of these consistently. Siddle, Pattinson and Hilfenhaus will be fine as long as they hit their areas and generate a bit of movement, which is the challenge they face.

Wouldn't sell Johnson down the river on that, let's face it when he's on song, like the 7 fer v Saffers last series, he's as dangerous as anyone.

190 wickets in 40 odd tests is testament to that. Can wield the stick every now and then as well, which is handy.

Please God no.

He'll talk up how he's got his mind set and worked out his action, then his Mum will say something mean and he'll be back to bowling wide pies.

He's already started doing that. He recently said somthing surreal in an interview like - when I was bowling well before I didn't know why, but now I do.

It's all bullshizen, you just know he still doesn't have a clue.

His little purple patch vs SA was what 4 years ago now?

His last 10 tests produced 27 wickets@47 and a poor economy rate, he's had more than enough chances and shouldn't be picked because of 4 test matches 4 years ago.

I don't understand when people claim we need some real pace, or something similar. Apart from the fact that 140 isn't exactly slow, what we need is guys who can take wickets. Our current bowlers have all demonstrated that ability. Johnson at his best was a very dangerous player, and looked like he was going to turn into a genuine all-rounder as well. It's a shame that it all came apart for him, but you wouldn't want to completely close the door on the possibility of his return, given how effective he can be.

A lot of people are simplistic and stupid when it comes to arguments on 'pace' Windies so called pace battery in the 80s was mainly bowling in the 130's, but had awkward bounce which is a lot more dangerous than Shaun Tait bowling pies at 150km.
