Mitch Starc really solidified himself as Pat Cummins right-hand man in Pakistan.

in 2021 Josh Hazlewood was in career best form as far as T20 cricket was concerned, and his recent Test performances had been sound as ever.
Hazlewood started the Ashes rout, but his abdominal injury sidelined him and Mitch Starc has stepped up in the interim, not missing a single Test and reinforcing the impact his unique skillset can have on the game.

Starc was perfect for this series; he meandered about seemingly aimlessly at times, his best weapons blunted before he'd begun the toil.
But throughout his career Starc has known that he is only one or two well-executed deliveries away from turning things around.
And in the past year or so he's learned to (largely) mitigate his less inspired spells; to dry things up a bit more effectively.

His short-lived all-rounder pretensions were not advanced in Pakistan, but he justified his selection ahead of an unlucky Josh Hazlewood and did his reputation no harm whatsoever.

Begrudging praise
