Loving how Hawks supporters are still lamenting their club's decision to pick Thorpe instead of Selwood, ironically because young Joel was injury prone with knee problems. ;)

If Thorpe can change his attitude he'll probably have a future at another club.

You'd expect someone to have a go at both of them. Not sure if Thorpe fits our recruiting guidelines though. Still, in a thin draft it may be worth the risk.

He's not broken down, he's just a conceited, arrogant knob end.

He's supremely talented, is young, has finally got his body right and was contracted yet Hawthorn still cut him loose.
If that doesn't set off numerous alarm bells, nothing will.

Considering Clarko's personality you can be forgiven for assuming those are the qualities that would have made Thorp to be among his favourite players. :confused: lol

i know hawks fans rated him very highly, so definitely worth a punt in a draft that doesn't have many talls. it's interesting they delisted him though if he's still contracted, especially when their first draft pick is so late they may as well sleep in on draft day

Interesting that this guy was too much for even Hawthorn to handle

Wouldn't be the first time we took someone like that off their hands............

If he is over his injuries then he might be worth a punt - although I wonder how chronic his problems are - is this the same bloke who has had consecutive knee recos? Or am I thinking of someone else...

are you joking? if anyone over at hawthorn saw even a smidge of the duck in him i highly doubt that we would have delisted him with a year left on his contract regardless of injuries/attitude/both.

if he does end up in the ND or PSD i wouldn't expect cats to pick him up anyway, I believe you lot are a bit smarter than that. you wouldn't need his arrogance mucking up salary cap issues. let someone like richmond take him.

however, i do wish mitch all the best.

you're probably thinking of boyle. thorpe will get picked up somewhere. if there's no other talls in the draft and if his arrogance doesn't force him to throw a ridiculous price on his head then i'd throw a second rounder at him

The kid needs a good swift kick in the pants, and frankly, for all his 'potential', I don't know if we really need to take the risk with a player who needs serious off season surgery....

Arrogance in a footballer is not necessarily a bad thing - look at Brereton, Carey etc.. But you need the skill to back it up.

I'm sure Mooney and Scarlett etc. would put him back in his box. The main concern is the injury side of things.

I fell in love with Thorp after seeing him play about 6 games in 2006, mostly for the Tassie U18s and a couple of VFL games. He had such a presence on the field, he just seemed a star in the making. I'd be willing to take a punt on him, but he'd have to earn a spot from the rookie list first. If any team can iron out attitude problems, it would be Geelong.

And that's the rub right there - delisted with a year to run suggests the injuries are severe or there is an attitude issue. I have a feeling he was offered around during trade week as well and there were no takers (at least not for what Hawthorn was possibly asking for him)

As such - hopefully Geelong steers clear of him.
