Re: Modern Warfare 3 - Part IX

That's why I always hated TDM. Far less tactical play that can be had, if you have an objective it makes the tactical play more open to different strategies. Although maybe that's the attacker in me, always wanting to find new ways of attacking the objective.
Yeah fair call, TDM in MW3 is nowhere near as fun as MW2. The amazing amount of variety one could encounter in MW2, plus the great maps made it an enjoyable experience.

Its funny, MW2, Bops and MW3 I have played pretty much one game type religiously and found the others lacking.

MW2 - TDM
Bops - CTF
MW3 - S&D

I'm really surprised you never got into COD4. Really had most wide spread mode variety working on all maps.

Really, apart from some Demo in Blops (and a little bit of the Wager stuff), I haven't played much of any other mode other than Dom in all COD's. However I did put a good amount of time into S&D, HQ, etc. in COD4 as they were so much more fun from a variety of tactics level.

Mmm, CTF on Bops.
If any game could recapture Resistance's CTF, I would play that infinitely for the rest of time.

The smaller maps hurt COD CTF's though imo. Not enough room for true strategies.

For me it was

MW2 - TDM
Blops - HQ & SnD
MW3 - Dom (KC or SnD when playing solo though)

CoD4 - Dom because i never played it online before partying with you guys at the beginning of this year :o
W@W - TDM (only playlist that i can get games on, such a dead community for such an underrated game)

HQ in Blops has been my favourite out of all of them, so easy to level when you average 4500-5500k just on score each game. Was the first mode i tried in MW3, realised they ****ed it up somehow and have only played once more when the party was trying other modes a couple of weeks back. I also rate Blops SnD better than MW3's, it comes down to map design and placement of sites for me.

You have to remember the timing of CoD4 for me though. That was when I was the Big Fish in the little pond that was Resistance CTF 1 hit on Somerset. For me that was my entire world of gaming and nothing has ever or will ever come close to the level of engagement and enjoyment of that for me.

So a few of my mates starting playing CoD and I gave it a crack, and, at the time, it was pretty shit compared to Resi:

  • The games were short (I was used to games lasting for hours - CoD lasted for 3 minutes)
  • Lag was terrible (I was used to none)
  • No one hit (I was used to shooting people and them dying...instantly)
  • Maps were 1/8th the size of Resi maps
  • CTF was woeful (I was used to quick one-hit strategic games)
  • Spawn and squad system was fundamentally flawed or non existent

...and to be honest, the complexity and depth of CoD4 was intimidating, I got sick of looking at kill cams and seeing all these guys with red dots and super powerful guns, Perks!?! WTF! Killstreaks - OMG I just got shot by a helicopter, this is shite - I was and still am to a degree very critical of the whole "levelling up gets you better things" system. I reckon its a bit backwards.

Then there was martyrdom.

So I could have plugged away at a game that IMO was far less enjoyable than the game I loved. Plus most of the guys I played regularly with were still playing Resi.

Looking back now, if Resi was never made and I started with CoD4, I would have probably loved it. Hindsight is always in 20.20 though.

I'm coming at it more from the "****-it-was-easy" school of thought.
Ah yes, the days of full lobbies of people just trying to get Marathon Pro. The "I only need 5 more flags!" comment in the lobby was music to my ears.

I spent probably 1 day of my 5 days played trying to get this bullshit.

Yeah that was terrible design flaw of BOPs IMO.

Loved the kill feeding of the people that just rushed and rushed an rushed.

Man did I cop some abuse as well. hahaha!

COD4 and WAW are easily my favorite COD games. I enjoy MW3 however there are some small and major things that stop it from being a top game.

Glad, I'm not the only one that hated BLOPS, Gimpy.

Put in dedicated servers. Make objective specific maps. Fix spawning = awesomeness.

'tis why I play Search. The lag is not as noticeable due to slower game play, the maps are OK (except for Dome and Mission) and there is no spawning!

I didn't really hate it, it just didn't interest me, with the shitty guns, shitty sound, etc.

That's why I still play it. Will be hardly playing any more though I think. Tried playing team defender (LOL) yesterday, lasted a game and a half. Played TDM just before and the lag has just gotten out of control. So rage inducing.

Headquarters was big in cod4 too , plenty of clans going a it EAB , TRU , aRC, BIA , gore , I was in the YOBO clan , we were shit but geez we had a laugh especially if we won we'd give it to the other clan.

What changed then? Mindset? Outlook? Or did you just get over Resistance?

Eventually it got to the point that every time I logged on it was the same 20 or so players in Resi - got a bit, incestual. Decided I had to move on and with some help and advice from mates gave MW2 a decent crack. Pushed through the learning curve, worked out how to abuse the system and began to have a laugh.

Sounds similar to what I went through with the Rainbow Six Vegas series, played them both exclusively (and extensively) from when 1 came out all the way through to the end of Vegas 2 when the Aussie online community finally died, which also happened to coincide with MW2's release.
