According to AFL site, Mods will be in the Crows side for the Crows v Port past players charity match on October 1 at Adelaide Oval.

This is great news except...I can't be there! I have already booked tickets to be in at QLD at that time!

Damn!

Bad luck, Jerome! If Tony does put his name up for that match, I'll definitely try to get there. It will probably be the only chance the fans get to say goodbye, and thanks for the memories.

Bill Sanders (that hard man!) refuses to consider any formal recognition by the AFC towards Tony. After all, according to Bill, Tony CHOSE to leave and is a DOCKERS player.

When did Bill say this? Well Rehn chose to leave as well and he got life membership. What gives???

Bill was interviewed by KG and Cornsey. Cornsey got stuck into him about Tony, and called Bill a "hard man" and "heartless" (and he wasn't really joking either).

The issue of Rehn's life-time membership was also brought up. Cornsey said that even though Rehn had qualified for life m/ship, he didn't necessarily need to be awarded it just now, (maybe inferring it could've been awarded after Rehn had retired?).

I was at the meeting in December when Rehn was presented with his certificate/plaque/whatever, and refused to applaud him. I think the majority of members there were uncomfortable with the situation.

It's my belief that a lot of people feel the AFC erred in letting Tony Modra go, and it's a shame the Club appears to be too proud to admit its error. It's very disappointing that Tony has not been publicly acknowledged by the Club for his outstanding contribution to the Club and I feel a majority of supporters would vote to give Tony life membership for that contribution.

But we all know that members have very little input to anything that happens at the AFC.

You can't give a player life membership just because he's a 'crowd favourite'. I loved watching Mods as much as anyone but apart from being our leading goal scorer a few times (as a full forward should) and kicking 100 goals in a season once, what makes him deserving of life membership.

Andrew McLeod is a crowd favourite now. What if the club kicks him out and he goes to Saint Kilda next year? Do we give him life membership because he was good to watch.

Shaun Rehn earnt his life membership by satisfying the criteria set down. Mods hasn't. Simple. Thanks Mods and well done but no life membership.

I think Tony was only one year off the criteria for life membership.

I'm not 100% sure of this (someone can confirm or clarify) but I think the Club did award LM's to a couple of players who didn't qualify, but they had provided outstanding service to the Crows. I'm sure the Club can do this if they wish to (rules can always be changed to fit the circumstances!)

Tony would have brought more fans to the Club than any other player, and the money he brought in from merchandise sales would have helped the Club significantly.

Andy McLeod is a fantastic player, and has certainly done wonders for the Crows, but Tony really helped the Club when they started out, and I believe he deserves some recognition from the AFC.

Crow 54,

Liptak, Jameson and Tregenza were awarded Life Membership at the end of 1999 for their contribution to the club as Original Crows.

Ok Mods was in the Team of the Century, and maybe Life Membership is a bit much but he definatley deserves some recognition from AFC. Five times leading goal kicker, Coleman medalist, Fos Williams medalist (State of Origin game against WA I think) and Mark of the Year 1993.

As the AFC's new book, The Pride of SA states in his profile as one of our 10 best players "Outstanding achievements, for which he should be remembered. "

Thanks for that info, Jerome. I was too lazy to look it up myself.

I'm looking forward to the Club's replies to our input about Tony on the AFC forum.
