If I remember correctly Ross accepted responsibility tactically for being beaten at the stoppages by Richmond. Something like Richmond were sliding a player out and that they needed to fix it.
They were getting it out alright and we had to fight like F**k to get it back .
Mora would have been a big asset that I remember remarking to the folks around me in Block 313 that we absolutely had to win that game, especially due to the similar circumstances encountered against Essendon a couple of weeks prior.

In many ways, Round 5 was the pivot point of our entire 2013 season. It's easy to forget that we were 2-2 at the time, and had Richmond got up that night there is no chance in hell we would have played in the GF. Grinding out the win seemed to give the team the belief that carried them through the rest of the H&A seat
I'm in Block 317 great vibe there hey

Guys for all the talk about our superior midfield ,I watched the Richmond game again on Fox and I have to say that we struggled without Sandi .
Griffith played real well and Barlow got a lot of the ball but we were beaten in the stoppages so if Moro is up and going he would add quite a bit .

That was the game Kepler did his knee ,Fyfe got reported and Hannath took the defensive mark in the dying minute of the match .
Johnson , Mcpharlin , Ibbotson , Clancee with Spurr stopped Richmond .
Ballas with 4 goals winning us the game .

Mate it's Griffin. Griff-in. Sorry but it does my head in

That's a very long bow.

That's a very long bow.

But somehow I don't think the Richmond game was any more critical than quite a few other things that worked out during the season.

Well maybe it is - I still think we would have wound up 5th or 6th again if not for winning that match. You guys will have to forgive me if it's going to take about 15 years to shake out the expectations that come with the previous 15 years of seeing Freo teams mentally collapse in similar situations where they really shouldn't have! (Round 7 2008, I am looking at you...)

So what do we reckon are the chances of seeing Morabito play in the practice match next Tuesday???

Yeah I agree with the others that there is no chance. And no need either. H is not looking likely for round 1 so you don"t jump steps. The next step needs to be taken at training.

That still is not sounding like "no chance in hell".

You think we would have made the GF from outside the Top 4 this year, a feat not one team has managed to do in the present finals system? Let's just agree to disagree on this point.

Who is Griffith??

According to Dwayne Russell, the big guy who kicked the 87.5% angle goal against Richmond in the wet at the MCG in 2012.

Anyway, back on topic, and I also have to come down on the side of those saying that there will be no Morabito in the intraclub or NAB Challenge games. Which is disappointing. He is going to have to start contact drills at some point, and the longer the wait (no matter how prudent the physical and psychological support for him is to get him to that moment) the more the nerves of supporters will start to be shredded. Still, Ross keeps saying that Anthony will speak for himself at the appropriate moment, and like all of us I will be a keen listener for that one.

It is a similar problem with many what if questions. What if Fyfe kicked the first shot on goal in the GF? No one will ever know. If we lose the Richmond game maybe it gives us the motivation to win another game. With that game under their belt maybe Richmond play differently. But losing that game does not equal is finishing outside the top 4. The equation changes. But the post we are discussing credits that game with giving the team the belief that carried them through the rest of the season. It is a long bow, and it looks to me like that belief runs a bit deeper.

Maybe losing the Richmond game makes us more fired up and determined to beat them at the MCG later that year, and in doing so raises our confidence at the G to the point where we win the GF by a landslide.

Shit, winning that game cost us a premiership

I'm pretty sure we threw in the towel in that Saints match in rd 23...

Also, if ifs & buts were candy & nuts etc. You can put an "if" next to any occurrence throughout the year for any team that could've shaped the final 8. The facts are, we did the hard work therefore we determined our own fate.

It is all part of the "no excuses" mantra which has transformed us I reckon. We finished the year comfortably knowing we had a top 4 spot sewn up and adjusted accordingly.

Exactly. Going into the last few rounds, I don't believe a top 4 berth was ever in doubt. Strategies came into play for preserving the fitness of labouring players and that became the most important thing in the final rounds.
Look who we play in the 2nd last round this year.

Expect 6-7 changes again.
