The victor trumper stand isnt the only stand being redeveloped at the SCG, the M.A. Noble stand, Bradman stand, and Dally Messenger stand will be demolished and rebuilt as a new stand like the Victor trumper stand, making the SCG seating over 48000 people, they are hoping to do this before the 2010/11 ashes, but it might be after. On top of that in the next 5 - 10 years they are looking to redevelop the O'Reilly stand, so that there is one size roof going from the Noble stand to the Victor Trumper stand, when this is done the SCG will seat well over 50000 people, though no further information has been released about the O'Reilly stand redevelopment.

This is known to SCG Members for a while guys, hardly new news. If you were at the AGM last year (I was) they outlined this. Plan is to have all of it completed by teh Ashes, as tickets for the Ashes sell out really easily. Also increases the size of the number of members seats.

The maximum capacity is limited to 48,000 until StadeOz reverts to public ownership (in 20??). This was part of the deal that got StadeOz built for Olympics by private funding.

Of course they could build the new stands but limit the amount of seating initially The Noble/Bradman replacement (detailed in those PDFs) would not be impacted by this restriction but the O'Reilly replacement would be.

Just reading on another page that it is 2031 that ANZ Stadium diverts to public ownership. It could of been 2025, one was ANZ Stadium the other was Etihad Stadium.
