Well i'm not going to try to find a quote but i'm sure it exists because he was having something weird like radiotherpy or something like that on it and there were some questions raised at the time.

As far as being a grown man and all that, sure but the club definitely has a duty of care to him regardless of what decisions he makes. Seems really bad luck for him anyway.

Pretty sure none of that ever happened. He rushed it, simple as that. Most players would with a GF spot on the line.

I am sure that I have seen quotes from him that say even knowing what he does he would do it again for a chance at the grand final.

with egan almost certainly finished, maybe we should go for moose maguire, ex falcon, nephew of couchy, can't get a game with saints and if they win the flag, which is likely, they'll have to offload players like we did. He'd probably relish a go at geelong, and saints owe us 1 or 2, and when fit has a lot of upside. Reprts say he may want out at St kilda. Any thoughts?

I say take him and try him as a replacement at CHF for Moons on retirement.
You'ld expect a couple of retirements at the end of this year and it's hard to see Moose being very expensive.

Whole lotta confidence there huh?

Since there's still an agonising knot in my gut from September last year, and I'm just a lowly supporter, I'm not so sure the Saints, while travelling well, are more hungry than Geelong, even though we have a recent flag.

Back on topic, knowing Matt for some time I can confirm earlier posts stating that he's a top-quality kid. REALLY hope this last resort works because it's been extra special getting to enjoy him play for my beloved Cats, knowing how hard he worked to get there.

Sorry, this is the second thread i've read in a row with this. Isn't it Goose Maguire?

On the topic, I'm not sure I'd really like him at Geelong, with his history of injuries and that broken leg. Having said that, if the price is right then we'd be stupid not to investigate it!

You have to be joking - the Saints are likely to win the flag ? If the loss of Geelong last year taught the football public anything it is that no one team has a stranglehold on the Premiership Cup. The better team for the year did not hold the trophy up come that final day in Sept.

However Geelong, even with that loss last year, are proven performers in finals now. They have the experience of playing big games and this will surely be of some advantage to them over their less experienced opponents - especially St. Kilda.

However if Maguire is available at the right price (and with Egan probably going off the list - and maybe another older Cat it is also a possibility) he would certainly be worth a 1 year contract. I do not think as others do on this thread and play CHF - he should play CHB if he plays in the hoops. Taylor to a HBF (and as pinch hitter in the forward line) and Geelong has the height again it needs down back. Taylor would make an excellent HBF. Smaller and less physical opponents at this stage would better suit him.

Mooney is unlikely to go to the Gold Coast simply because of his age - and so he could be at the Cats another 2 seasons allowing Mitch Brown to progress and take this position over time. Gillies will hopefully slot in also over time across the HB line. Geelong's biggest loss will always be Scarlett. Once in a generation player. Still the list will have largely regenerated itself for a few more years and still be skilled enough to win a flag or two.
