I'd love to see Jack Sinclair find his feet in the middle and become a clearance beast. Seriously good through traffic, kicks well off both feet, dangerous resting forward. Just needs to develop his body work. A bounce would be nice too. ;)

But Minchington or Pierce to make the most gains this year.

Asking the question more broadly, rather than THE player we expect to improve MOST, I think we need multiple players improving, obviously.

Take Longer, for example. He was in the top 5 for hitouts for most of the year until injury. But that was on the back of coming in to preseason reportedly fat and with poor attitude. It'll be interesting to see how he goes with a proper preseason next time.

I reckon the most obvious guy to take the next step would be Ross. He was going well preseason and has consistently improved every year. Geary could have a killer year too and finally stop the nay sayers. Guys around that demographic are usually the safest bet for improvement. Someone like Hickey who hasn't had a lot of opportunity could fly too.

Good point:thumbsu:
Ill admit im a Billy fan and wouldnt trade him under any circumstance. like Johno Brown said, i think hes a future premiership ruckman.
But one thing that surprised me this season was the way peeps on here chopped and changed with attitudes towards our rucks.
When Billy was up n about the praise was abundant and there was plenty of lets trade Hickey talk.
Then when Billy got injured and Hickey played a couple of good games the 'lets trade Longer' talk popped up.
Then of course Holmes won a few tap outs and he was the future:eek:
Longer is a baby in ruck yrs and he showed great improvement this yr. Hes a keeper. But that doesnt mean i want to get rid of Hickey either.
The ideal problem to have is to make a Grand Final and have trouble deciding which big fella to play cos they are both good rucks.

What if Tommy Lee became a gun defender ?

If he was a couple of yrs younger id hold out more hope of him turning his whole career around.

Maybe I see our development a little differently to some others around here, but personally I like the look of the thoroughbred footballers.

Next years most improved?

In terms of glimpses, it is Paddy for me.

While McCartin has nothing like the hype of anyone named Jack, I believe his scope for improvement is enormous.

Now I am not expecting an AA year or even for him to play more than 15 games. However, I think his ceiling is potentially as high as anyone on the list (Billings included) and I am expecting him to show us all some real glimpses of something special

For improvement in his consistency and output - week in week out?

Luke Dunstan

McKenzie if he can avoid the second year blues. But I like the idea of it being someone other than the "safe" bets. If it's someone like Eli who played mostly VFL last year then we're in great shape.

I have a feeling Eli is going to burn it up next season . Hopefully keep a spot on the wing .

The thing with Eli was, granted he didn't have a great AFL season, but at VFL they consistently put a tag on him. That has to tell us something about what he's capable of.

Billings is clearly our best young player and baring injury will be our most improved. There are at least 4 or 5 who have to improve to stay on the list like Murdoch, Templeton, Ross and Lee.

Stay fit and stay in form.

Players can only push into the top 10 of our B & F if they can remain in the first 22 week to week.

I'm hoping that some of Dunstan, Billings, Freeman, Murdoch, Ross, Goddard, Lonie, McKenzie can remain injury free, they've all had problems staying on the park.

Sinclair seems to have a pretty strong body so I think if that continues he'll be up there in our most improved.

Acres, Membrey and McCartin need consistent form.

Really excited to see how the young guys come on next year.

Having watched a few replays of the year I think it's important to note, how good Longer, Weller, Webster and Membrey were this year.

If Longer can have another big year, he will push up into that bracket of top ruckman in the league. I actually thought Hickey was also really good on occasions- he can definitely take a good mark!

I thought Membrey was really good when he played. The forward line functioned better with him in it. He brings pressure, aggression and a pretty good work rate. I think the end of the sub rule will allow both him and Hickey to play together.

I thought Webster had a solid year down back and he would be a lock in the starting 22 for next year. Will be interesting to see how he goes up on the wing if he gets a chance.

Weller was also super all year. Went from being a tagger to also be a dangerous definitive forward. Has a lit of versatility. He cracks in hard and actually has some good speed to him too.

If these guys can progress again this year, we might get a few more wins!
