barry stanfield - remember when he retired to become a manager at a foodland shopping centre !!
I didn't know that. It just makes his story even funnier. The main thing I remeber is him running into an open goal and showing the opposition the ball in the 1st or 2nd quarter of a game. What a wag.

I didnt realise we wasted so much on hewitt - did we just get him because of THAT tackle on Rehn ???
He played 30 odd games with the Roos when they were going pretty well, but couldn't even dominate at Sanfl level when he was with us. I think we mainly got him because of his "marking strength".

Recycled for the third time:

DT's Crow All-Hacks (have played at least 1 senior game in AFC colours):

FB:... Allan Bartlett .... Brett Chalmers ... Lance Picioane
HB:... Ben Nelson ........ Evan Hewitt ...... Dean Howard

HF:... Josh Mail ......... Jonathan Ross .... Adam Saliba
FF:... Tim Cook .......... Daniel Schell .... Ricky O'Loughlin
FOLL:. Aaron Keating ..... Darryl Wintle .... Brodie Atkinson

IC: Ashley Fernee, Tom Gilligan, Linden Stevens, Matthew Shir

TALENT!

hmmm DT - sudjai couldn't get a guernsey, although hard to disagree with the team you have (ps know his family very well so be nice ;) )

When I first constructed that team, one of the factors that I had in mind was the cost of the player and overall return on that cost.

Evan Hewitt cost us a shedload (was it a first rounder or a pair of second rounders?) and gave us nothing in return. Downsborough was more of a junk deal IIRC, and whilst he was dire, Keating and Gilligan were worse as ruckmen.

Welcome aboard :)
Hewitt cost us pick 23 (2nd rounder) which the Kangaroos used to draft Drew Petrie

Firstly welcome aboard :)

Secondly, boy did Evan Hewitt give me the ********s . He was a perfect build for a CHF but pitty he had no heart. The bloke was a waste of space for us.

Yep, likewise - a warm welcome to the Truck!! :)

As for Hewitt, I share your anger and angst, young Stiffmeister, in that respect. He not only had the perfect build, but also excellent skills.

Sadly, as you say, he had no heart at all.

We drastically needed a CHF - what's changed - and ironically, as Stiffy said, that pick we gave for him was used to get the Kangaroos Drew Petrie.

C Lamb 1

A bit hasrsh on a couple there. Peter McIntyre wasn't a bad player, neither was Michael Murphy. Murphy delivered the best left hook I ever saw at prines park in 1991. dropped the carlton guy like a sack of ****.

McIntyre used to get bored playing for South and before the end of the quarter he used to go wandering downfield looking for a bit of biff.
oddly enough he usually found it :D

I take your point on Ross and Saliba, but the fact they had copious talent was all the more reason to include them. Such an utter waste, and unlike injury-plague victims such as Ryan Fitzgerald and Collingwood's Lee Walker, they've only themselves to blame for not realising it.

Disagree completely on Clay Sampson however.

He was discarded from a dire Melbourne side (finished 14th), was nothing more than a dodgy stopgap utility for us, before moving to Richmond, where he was and is still less than well-regarded.

In fact, if you do a thread search on the Richmond board using the keyword 'Sampson' you'll get:

'Field of Duds'
'Richmond's Worst Team 1990-2003'
'Richmond's Greatest Ever ...'

Says it all.
Maybe my memory is fading with age, so I'll bow to your synopsis of Sampson!! If he can be rated as Richmond's greatest ..., then I think I may have severely compromised myself as they certainly have a veritable smorgasboard to choose from.
