I don't think it was as brutal an incident as we all made out...but nonetheless the decisioon by the MRP goes against everything we have been taught by the MRP over the last few years.

If you initiate contact and make head high contact, you have a case to answer. It was clearly accidental as I doubt Thomas intended to head-butt Reid. But nonetheless he changes his line and concussed Reid off the ball.

If every decision goes the same way this year, then I can live with it because all we ask for is consistency. You just can't help but think though if it were Hayden Ballentyne, he would've got 2 months.

But I will reserve further judgement until the next incident comes along. I just can't understand how interpretations change so drastically over one pre-season.
The trouble is interpretations change on a weekly basis,how many games being played throughout the world have different interpretations changing on a weekly basis and we know this is so because the commentators are always talking what rules or regulations are being targeted this week.

It is a great game you just wish the bastards would leave it alone if only for a week.:mad: :thumbsdown:

The inconsistency is certainly the issue. We all know that sometime this year, probably soon, there will be a similar incident and someone will get 4 weeks. The MRP set a standard of sorts last year, but are now setting a completely different one. Either they don't know what they are doing or they are playing favorites.

I guess what saved him, was the fact that his feet remained grounded at the time of impact.
Hence fair bump...accidental clash of heads...part of footy....no malice intended.
I am ok with it, if (as others have said) they remain consistant all year....which we know they will not.

It still contradicts the wording of the rules. There were no "circumstances outside of Thomas' control" and certainly nothing that Thomas "couldn't reasonably have foreseen".

It's a positive for football, but basically means the MRP just used the rule book to prevent obvious bruising while beating the hell out of the next player who makes accidental contact to a player's head while intentionally bumping.

Wikipedia's definition of integrity:

"Integrity is a concept of consistency of actions, values, methods, measures, principles, expectations, and outcomes."

MRP = ZERO integrity...
