Nankervis is going to be hard to keep out of the A Team if yesterday is a sample of what's to come, other than Soligo I thought he was our best performer, thank christ Hamish got on the front foot and grabbed him in the pre-season draft before anybody else could snaffle him in front of us in the rookie draft.

Hard to judge given the absolute lack of competition, but he'd have to be in the R1 side for mine

I was at the game on the outer wing, so it was hard to see numbers on the other side of the ground. A couple of things to back up what has already been said. It's hard to take how the forward line will go when up against some actual tall backs, and according to Pear supporters, they were just out for the fitness and not really trying that hard...

Fog didn't do much, and I thought at times the forward line was too crowded, not enough sacrifice leading to open up other avenues, but as others have said, get it in fast, and Filthy is going to be a problem for any defence. Get Rankine in the side and things change a hell of a lot both in the mids and up forward. Tex, Fog, Filthy and Curtin as the swingman with Keays, Rachelle and rotating mids going through the HF line will prove some headaches, and hopefully, we will go back to the 2023 high-scoring side

Hinge and Nank should definitely be in the R1 side. Milera was ok and Laird was unassuming without doing much more than he needed to. Worrel was a standout and took the game on, bye bye Butts. Murray and Keane did what they needed to do and did what they needed to against the Pear key forwards.

In the Mids, it was evident there has been a lot of work done. ROB did better at directing the ball to our mids and not the Pears, and our speed and tackling were very evident. The mix of Crouch, Peatling, Dawson, Soligo, Draper, and ANB with Filthy in as 2nd ruck worked really well against the Pear's 1st choice mids.

In the SANFL game, it was clear to see the difference in experience we had running around compared to the Pear, who kept at least 7 or 8 first-choice players on the ground for the last 2 periods. Smith was a cut above and has plenty to offer the youngsters in the SANFL, where I think he will play most of the year. Toby Murray took some really good grabs around the ground, and I think there is something to keep working on for the future. That is where I think if injury hits, we have the players to step up and continue to put pressure on the likes of Laird and Jones to keep their spots.

Lastly, as I live close to the Summit ground, it was great to see it used for this game as the surface is carpet-like, akin to the Adelaide Oval. It is a crime by our council up here that no Hills football was played on it last season due to the ridiculous fees they put on to use it. The game should have started at 6-6:30 as the traffic at 5 with people coming home from work was a traffic jam of monumental proportions. Anyway my two cents worth.

I appreciate the Milera comments, but to me he seemed to be playing very safe and careful. Obvious with his movement around the ball and entering of some contests. Will take same time to build confidence.

Which effectively means SANFL until he demonstrates those qualities regularly.

Definitely a bad viewpoint by the coaches if he’s seen as behind Milera

Port weren't much chop so hard to take much away from that other than Soligo. He looks primed to become an A grader of the comp.

Peatling and ANB looked pretty good.

T Murray looked strong, but don't think he really had any opposition.

Would love Pedlar to find his way back into the team this year. Just love watching him play. Hopefully he stays fit and finds form. Looking unlikely he'll be a midfielder even though he looks a natural there. Probably going to find a spot up forward if anything.

I didn't see the game but a few have reported that he's been in a good paddock in the off-season.

Only station I could find on my drive was AA and Timmy was shocked at how we ran the ball out too easily when Port had Butters, Rozee and The Brownlow in there

He did indeed mention the struggling backline but again tempered it with '' you still need to be close to your opponent ''

I happened to run into him post game, all he said was "some of the fears I've had all summer appeared in the first quarter"

Our SANFL team matched their A's. They are really, really struggling for depth once you get past Butters and JHF.

Alrighty I've watched the As match today (yet too for Bs). First half looked like we had rediscovered our 2023 form before putting the cue in the rack for the third.

Soligo looks primed to take the next step. Was everywhere and constantly doing damage when he had the ball.
Peatling looked very neat and industrious in his first hitout.
Dawson was also fantastic.
TT looked like he hasn't missed a beat since the end of last year. 3 goals, a goal assists and a lot of the pill.
Tex did well. Quiet but got on the scoreboard.
Fog likely comes out with a very solid game if he had played four quarters. With three it was a bits and pieces kind of performance that needed 1-2 more moments to tie it up.
Muz looked dynamic in defense. Getting Luko short stepping was also a highlight.
Don't know if I could separate Dowling and Jones as both worked hard on the wing, used the ball solidly and had a hand in a goal.
ANB and Keays had nice moments but were rusty.
Milera were solid without any thrills. Important thing is he got through unscathed.
Curtin and Draper had some nice moments.
I liked Lairds game in defense. Looked like the Rory of old.

It's a trial match so hard to take too much from it, but so far, so good.

Best out the 3 trades I predict. I still can't believe we got him. Non Adelaide boy plus was pursued by multiple clubs. Excellent recruiting.

2nd or 3rd best performed on the night for sure

Finally got to finish watching the practice match. The first three terms were pretty interesting, while the last three terms were pretty boring.

Soligo was the clear BOG, he's in ripping form at the moment! As much as Port seemed a step off, their midfield still has quality and he made them look second-rate at times.

As you would expect, our tall forward line vs Port's smallish defenders meant that we often monstered them in the air, and equally, they often were able to run away from us with ease. It will be important for us to at least match opponents in the midfield if we want to run with four talls in the forward line. Fortunately, our midfield is finally looking good enough to do that.

In the B's there wasn't all that much to see. Taylor and Schoenberg were both good, as was Smith. T Murray looked dangerous. Not a whole lot to write home about other than that.

Also, I don't want to take too much from a practice match, but Port look like sliding backwards a fair way to me.

T Murray one of the big positives of the night in terms of individuals

He should get a fair bit of impetus for sanfl season from that , realise opposition was lacking but he did spend a fair bit of time on Walsh who’s well regarded at Port

Have lost nothing gaining him and losing Himmelberg , up only from here
