Hello there dear friends, new and old!

Tonight is the night that we FINALLY get to bury the decomposing corpse of our Season 35. The season that feels like it should have ended almost the minute it started.

The above is, of course, something that someone who is purely win-focused would say. Any objective observer who judges the all-round success of the club on its posting, culture and FUN would say that Season 35 was one of the Mt. Buller Demons’ best ever.

And this is why we still must celebrate that nagging little puppydog of a season. The season where we could only scrape together a few miserly wins against teams that chose to eat an entire wheel of cheese before playing.

So let’s look back at Season 35 and celebrate our club’s heroes.

In addition to going through the votes for the Best & Fairest (Deestroy Medal), we will hand out a number of special and AMAZING awards tonight…

• A strong match thread contribution from PMBangers who made his debut for our fine club!

• Another great all-round posting effort, with 18 Demons posters contributing 504 nuggets of wisdom!

• A resounding 45-point loss

• The opportunity to take a road trip to an opposition ground (the bus ride was memorable, as Headless brought his harmonica!)
• ANOTHER 21 contributors to the match thread vs. the feckless Rats, including a large uptick from moginie !
• Bluelegs really brought some intensity!

• Wosh and Headless continued to act as our posting core, being the top two posters (in terms of both quality and quantity) in the thread!

What the SIM said…

• A thoroughly enjoyable 14-point loss (perhaps our percentage might increase!)

What is a cats2Rise medal? I ask myself this very question almost every single day of my pitiful existence. Bleak and marked as it is by an everlasting sense of dread and foreboding.

When it becomes all just a bit much for me to work through, I just jump onto BigFooty and I just darn well look for myself. Here’s what I type: “What is a cats2Rise medal?”.

BigFooty says that the cats2Rise medal is the award handed out by the Mt. Buller Demons Sweet F.A. club to each season’s club-leading goalkicker.

So who might be the winner of this coveted award (which is named after a simply lovely fellow whose hatred for the Wonders is a thing of beauty) for Season 35?

Well, I feel the answer to that is even simpler to the question I initially posed. The award goes to the person who has kicked the most goals in Season 35!

And that person just happens to be Wosh !

Wosh’s goal-kicking tally is made even more incredible by the fact that she only played in the forward line for 11 games (just 6 of those at full-forward) and managed to kick 36 goals. I look forward to her winning the FRED this season!

One of the biggest travesties of last season – and I take personal responsibility for this one – is the fact that sausageroll didn’t get nominated for the All-SFA team at half back.

On top of the mountain of work he did compiling our posting and on-ground stats all last season (and his tireless work supporting the opposition each week), this guy kicked arse on the field and deserves recognition.

In a season where we were consistently pummelled by a lack of whole-ground defence, a lone baked savoury good stood up each and every week. He outperformed all other nominated half back flankers in the entire of the league, and more than earns his recognition as our club's best defender.

We salute you sausageroll and congratulate you on winning this season’s Best Defender award.

Let it be a down-payment on your upcoming All-SFA dominance.

This award – formerly known as the Best Rookie award – has been named in memory of our beloved and much-missed teammate Deaneus! . It recognises posters who are new to the league and who have made a contribution to our club from the very beginning.

We enjoyed two new posters at the Demons across Season 35 – each of them made an impact with their wit, engagement and contribution to the culture of this great club.

However, the poster that has won the Deaneus! Award for Season 35 is cartwright .



We thoroughly enjoyed seeing how well you have integrated into our club. While you’re still making your way in a league that is incredibly overwhelming at times, we feel like you’re built of the right stuff to enjoy a nice career at Mt. Buller.

• 21 club contributors to our match thread at the midway point of an almost world-record-bad season. Best posting club ever? Yes.
• Another thread where Wosh and sausageroll led the charge for us – you know the quality was good…

• A rare Marlowe sighting! We love Marlowe!
• Our opponents didn’t annoy us really, and Broken was a delight to post against, as usual

What the SIM said…

• The SIM once again sent a message that it disliked us (and that last week was just a form of hope-building)
• Three goals (and 90 DT points) from cartwright !
• A generally low-possession game otherwise, and no real standout players in a 49 point loss
• I think it might have actually said “Hey everybody, I’m the SIM and never forget that the Demons are doomed in Season 35 but don’t worry because I know they’re the best club really”. it might also have said lol and/or rofl.

• We enjoy playing against the Royals. nahnah is our frienemy.

The bloke hasn’t been the same since Van_Dyke stopped bringing him those special Chinese medicine tablets. Regardless, he makes a great point with respects to moginie – he’s the kind of poster that would have your back every time. He’s exactly the kind of poster that would come and find you if you were stuck between to poker machines.

We love him and we’re glad he’s getting this recognition. Thanks for being you, moginie !

The Eth Award is named after one of the greatest captains, player and teammate of this great club. Introduced a number of seasons ago, the Eth Award is voted on by players and is an accolade to be incredibly proud of.

Past winners of this award include Hate, Tarks, Headless (multiple times), Van_Dyke, Callums_Guns, myself, Oddhawk and Yakker.

This season we had a really strong spread of votes across a number of posters, which again highlights just how many great contributors we have in our squad. We honestly have the best, most stable and engaged leadership group in the land – it’s packed full of club and league legends and we’re always keen on ensuring we’ve got the best people in the league across the running of our club.

The winner of the Season 35 award is someone who has shown renewed vigour and engagement with the league after such a long time. He’s undoubtedly one of our sharpest posters when up and about and in addition to his increased posting, his contributions to our season team thread (posting round summaries and posting/sim stats) have been incredibly highly valued.

sausageroll does these things unasked and with no fuss. He has shown tremendous initiative to help keep our club running smoothly and I am so excited that his contribution has been recognised by our club.

This is his first Eth Award, and I'm certain it won't be his last.

What we liked…

• Might this be the only time this season that we needed to play the Furies? Hopefully, yes!
• Look, to be fair we really enjoyed ShaunDuggan ‘s company and James Colorado is really fun too. Not sure about the Chicken Kiev with Rice guy, though.
• 17 match thread contributors (so bloody good in context of who we were playing and our season to date).
• Generous doses of FUN thanks to sausageroll …

• We DIDN’T LIKE Greenery leaving us after this round, but we were happy to welcome home Callums_Guns for what we’re CERTAIN will be a VERY LONG TIME. Right?

What the SIM said…

• The SIM initially told us that we would lose again, because we were losing at half time. HOWEVER, it was all just a funny trick and we BLOODY WELL WON A GAME.
• It was a 17-point win and we cried because of how much we were laughing.
• jmoo wan and Greenery kicked 3 goals each.
• sante had the ball on a string (27 touches and 10 marks).
• Marlowe had a turn in the ruck and got 14 hitouts. That’s good!

What we liked…

• The Warriors are sometimes nice to post against. Does it have anything to do with their relatively high Fremantle supporter ratio? I’m not ruling it out.
• Although it’s a West Coast supporter that makes me smile

• Callums_Guns came home and starting posting for our club again and we all felt good about it

• 22 match thread posters again? Yep, don’t mind if I do.

• A really active thread from both us and our competitors – it helped the week pass quickly as we were certainly heading for another loss!

• Headless recorded a game with -1 DT points. He recorded 1 handball and 1 free kick against. That is absolutely REMARKABLE and UNHEARD OF. He’s a star!

• Having a bye before having to face the LOUD Bombers! It gave us the chance to charge our batteries, so to speak. To calm the nerves after Round 13’s draw.

• It told us that once again we must lose. 20 points? Sure.
• ANOTHER 6 GOALS FROM Wosh . We probably should have called the fire brigade, for obvious reasons.

What we liked…

• It was HERITAGE ROUND, and we got to play against our OLD RIVALS, the Wonders! We hate the Wonders!
• 20 match thread posters for us, PLUS one Eth ! We were simply amazing!
• Wosh kept smacking it out of the park for us…

• While probably a bit too cheesy , our opponents were well-represented by croweater 41 , who isn’t bad for an old campaigner.

What the SIM said…

• It barely spoke above a whisper, yet it muttered something about us losing by 25 points to our traditional rival, which really wasn’t a problem for us at all. Nope.
• It was Bluelegs ‘ turn for a -1 DT match, following his idol Headless TO A TEE!
• Tarkyn_24 continued his impressive form, with 21 touches, 3 goals and 6 tackles!
• Hate was again just really impressive – 16 hitouts, 17 touches, 2 tackles.
• cats2rise somehow managed to pull a 22-possession 1-goal game out. From where, we do not ask.

What we liked…

• Imagine – you’re 17 rounds into a season where you’ve won just the two games, and you’ve still managed to get 17 match thread posters against a club that isn’t reputed for its engagement. IMAGINE!
• It was okeydoke7 ‘s potential milestone match (as he sought to be the second Sweet F.A. player to reach 1,000 goals) and we managed to SPOIL IT.
• Headless got excited and went and out-posted us all, including some sage advice for his dear friend Okey…

• I feel like any mention of the opponent’s alcoholic tendencies were kept to a minimum. That’s a win, right?

What the SIM said…

• The SIM said that our suffering through losing matches by 3 goals or less should just bloody well continue for another week. A 12 point loss this time.
• sante went and got the ball 28 times and even kicked a goal!
• Johnny Karate had another big game (22 possessions, 2 goals) – what a start to his career!
• cartwright and Hate were again amongst our best players on the day.

What we liked…

• Sweet, sweet relief. This would be our FINAL game for Season 35! While we were no doubt sad to stop the continual losses and bottom of the ladder embarrassment, the end of the season meant new hope for the one ahead.
• So much was our grief with the season about to close in May that it didn’t quite sink in until October 9th

• In spite of this sorrow, we managed another 17 match thread posters and kept having fun until the very last! Serious note: very proud of our club’s solid posting numbers across the whole season – we nailed it.

What the SIM said…

• It suggested that we might as well lose again to really drive in the coffin nail. If we were going down, we’d go down in FLAMES. FLAMES in this case equated to a 38 point loss.
• Yakker managed to bob up and kick 4 goals!
• cartwright put on another masterclass – 12 tackles (gasp) to go along with 14 possessions!
• cooney kicked two goals and saved his best SIM performance for last.
• Tarkyn_24 , Hate and sausageroll toiled hard.
