Here's my new thought process.

I got caught this week with the Ablett donut as my subs in Martin and Moles were both out

In my backline I have Goddard and Gram who can be defenders or Mids.

In my forward line I have Didak and Rok who can be forward or mids

In my midfield, I have no muli players

From my midfield, should I trade out Cross and Swann for Pav and Hodge?

this will then allow me to switch players around for teh rest of the year, and never get stuck with a donut again?

However, 2 like for like trades.....

Thoughts?

Umm no, trading Swan and Cross are u kidding? And then you can only swap the interchangeable players. If you wanna use trade down one of your mid rookies who isnt playing to Rohan or the other sydney rookie who has mpp. That way u at least can cover an injury.

Yep

77 points better off

But as the season moves on, would save me trades i reckon

You expect your premiums to play all year so having the ability to swap mpp premiums between each other isn't really going to achieve much. You need bench mpp's to be able to cover things like this successfully.

If you want more MPP flexibility then target MP players when upgrading, never trade out guns like Swan and Cross. The trades would have to save 8 - 12 donuts i reckon to make it worth it.

Let me rephrase: would that have helped you avoid donuts this week?
yes

Couldnt cover Ablett in the midfield as my emergencies in Martin and Moles were also out

If i had a MPP, I could have put Goddard in the midfield and played Hunt off the bench

But you would've had to move one of your midfield mpp's into the backline, so you wouldn't have been any better off since your mpp midfielder wasn't coming off the bench.

I had the same situation as you this week, multi position players in forward and back but not in the middle where I needed them, especially seeing as both my midfield emergencies are injured. That made me regret choosing both Goddard, Hodge, etc as defenders and thinking I'm a massive genius, when it's come back to haunt me in the end.

Next year I'll definitely make sure I have multi-position players on every line, and if possible I'll choose multi-position players as emergencies.....

How does the mpp work (bit of a n00b with this) Can you just interchange MPP at anytime?

For example i got Pav in my forward line, would not mind changing him to my midfield then bringing a cheapie mpp player in that will be on my bench and move Pods into my starting team. And if i can do this is there any cheap MPP mids/forwards who are playing or looking like playing (eg under 160k)

MPP is a massive advantage now that I have seen how you can cover injuries

Problem solved. martin > duncan (mid / fwd). This frees up Duncan, rok and Didak to swap amongst the mids and forwards to cover injuries

Now just need to trade out Moles in a few weeks when he peaks in price to a mid / def player. they can then swap with Goddard and Gram to cover holes back there

Should have set this up form the start

Ideally, you need a rookie/bench player to go with your premium to make MPP work. The stand-out candidate was Mitch Duncan who is FWD/MID eligible. Then if you had Pavlich/Goodes/ROK/Chapman you could swap them back and forward as needed AND give yourself more flexibility with upgrading potentially.

Swapping premiums between lines can also help but again it depends on your bench players.

However, it's pointless if you then trade Duncan out or he doesn't play and that was the dilemma at the start. However, I had Duncan in until right up to lockout and am sorry now that I switched him to Bastinac.

There weren't the same rookie MID/DEF options but there were guys like Ladson and Greenwood. However, with how they have scored would you keep them in just for MPP flexibility. Did many keep Tippett for his MPP flexibility? Duncan was the ideal MPP candidate. Bringing him in now at $250K? Not sure but maybe it's a good move?

It's interesting if you sort the midfielders by their season average you see Hodge, Chapman, ROK, Pavlich & Goddard right up there ahead of some of the bigger names in MID premiums.

Kept Tippett so far based on this reason and with the injury to Seaby he will go into the ruck and lobbe to Fwd. Leaves my fwd bench looking pretty thin unless Hitchcock gets a game but i dont have the cash in the bank to bring in a ruckman i want so it will do for now. If i can get away with it for a few weeks i will be ready to cash in a cow somewhere.

Didnt now how this whole concept would work out but as pointed out earlier the key is having MPP's on the bench. I think if Gary Rohan plays 2 games and looks ok everybody will be getting him.

Yep, you can switch MPP's with each other as much as you like for no penalty.

How long has this been going on?

I've played SC for 7 or so years. Surely I'm not that much of an idiot.

not very usefull feature, could come in handy once in while

ok so if ive got hodge in the back line and his a MPP.and i know i have a donut in the mid,the way to do it is put hodge on the bench as an emerg in the back line.and that should get me those points.
i hust dont know how to switch the players around.sorry

pls explain how to switch the players around.

They should unlock the bench and thne they would be more useful.

i.e. you can have 8 on the pine as usual, but they don'thave to be 2 mids, 2 backs, 2 fwds, 2rcks. Once unlimited you can then move players to different positions as you wish without having to have a fwd/mid in both fwd and mid to do anything.

basically, the concept is... Your starting 22 is in the correct positions. Your other 8 are like the rest of the team, you can put them whereever you want as long as you have the 7627 starting correctly.

You just hit the (swap) button on a MPP player mate and it gives you a choice of all the available players you can swap with (the available ones are highlighted in blue as I recall).

For example, if you have Duncan as a MPP mid/forward, if you hit the button on him you can swap him with any of your midfielders, OR with any of your forwards who are MPP mid/forwards, e.g. ROK, Pav, Harvey, Goodes, Chapman etc...there's a very good selection of premium MPP forward/mids.

I picked Duncan more for the ability to swap any of the premium MPP forward/mids into my midfield to cover a donut than for his cash cow potential - the fact that he's got games and done well has just been a very handy bonus.

Unfortunately, in practice this week I had Roberts and Rockliff not playing as my forward emergencies, so that meant I couldn't spare a forward to send to the midfield anyway, having to cop Jetta's 21. Getting forward bench cover has been very tricky all year...unless you have such an awesome forwardline you can afford to leave Pods on the bench. ;)

It's a handy feature if you plan it right, but next year it'd be nice to see way more rookies given MPP...many of the rookies listed as mids this year have played on flanks after all and relatively few teenagers are viable propositions to play midfield at AFL level.

Im currently using Davis & Grundy as F/B and thinking off bringing Tippett into my side and onto my Fwd bench, then using him to cover Ottens whilst I work out the best ruckmen to trade too.

But will be interesting what Goddards positions next year will be. At moment it would be Back, Mid & Fwd. How would that be for MP cover. Hopefully Rossy will throw him into ruck at some stage so he could cover every position.
