''Murphy said he also hoped the Blues' administration would consult the leadership group over the future of Ratten, also out of contract this year. He said the players could not be happier with Ratten, who has guided the team to five wins and a draw, and hopes he is re-signed to a long-term deal.''

Article about Judd, Warnock and some word from Murph about his contract, but interesting he said he wants Ratts resigned.

This is great the he has the support of the players, as they are the people who really decide your future as an unhappy team means the coach is on the outter.

Re: Murph wants Ratten resigned

You reckon Rhys-Jones is the man to coach us next year?
Lol @ Hyphen. :D

I actually thought he may have been a good choice when Brittain was sacked. Would've definitely handed out the spoonfuls of cement!

Re: Murph wants Ratten resigned

Awesome to hear, I've been getting the impression they do love Ratts and I think the man himself is improving in his role.

I doubt Ratts could have done much better than he already has so far in 2011. I suspect the addition of Richardson and Brown has really assisted him in the coaches box. On what I have seen so far this year, he should go on beyond 2011. I guess how we fare in the finals will determine that.

Was a pretty empty but positive interview except the bit about Ratts. .. Was good that he expressed the feelings of the playing group. .. Do you think its also possibly part of a PR exercise to get more fans on board with Ratts? Do you think that they'll re-sign Ratts before finals, to remove the speculation? (Provided he has a good couple of months of course)

Im not one for rumour starting, or buying into rumours but I did come across this information. Take it as a grain or salt, or a whole bunch of salt, but felt I should pass it on...

A lady I use to work with, her husband is the brother of one of the coaches at Carlton (I wrote his name but have deleted in case this causes problems for people).

She said at the start of the year Malthouse was pretty much already a done deal, to which I replied how can that possibly be? This was after they came out and said nothing less than winning a final will do. So I said if he achieves the goals set by the club, that he wins a final and goes further and for arguments sake we win the flag, how could it possibly be a done deal.

She was kind of offended almost that I threw it back at her. Anyway I resigned from my job and on the last day she came to me to say that she spoke to her husband again on the Malthouse front cas she knew I was going to ask before I left to get a final update, and that he (the brother of this coach at Carlton) said it was all quiet on that situation now.

She is a straight shooter and doesnt strike me as someone who bullshizas. As I say, take for as much or as little gospel as you will, but it was interesting none the less.

I'd be surprised if the club discussed this with the assistant coaches (even a former Collingwood one) and they in turn started telling others outside the club.

Do we have a reverse situation occurring here? Is Murphy holding out for Ratts to be re-signed?

Well looking at Ratts interaction with the players after the games it appears to be fine. Could be the injection of experienced assistant coaches, better structures and game plans, leading teams and an overall improvement of our playing group, all these things bring confidence to everyone. (including me :p rocking upto work this morning, feeling a lot better than my bomber supporting boss)

Whether or not the club were looking around for a replacement early on, who knows, things get blown out of proportion once they get second hand....I imagine any footy club would be rife with gossip.

I'm rapt for Ratts the way we're going, love to see him and Juddy hold up the cup

Yeah, baby!

Brett Ratten soaks up the love from Carlton players

CARLTON coach Brett Ratten has welcomed a ringing endorsement from gun midfielder Marc Murphy as the coaching landscape heats up at rival clubs. While the focus is on the futures of Western Bulldogs coach Rodney Eade and Melbourne coach Dean Bailey, Ratten has overwhelming support from his playing group.
One of eight coaches out of contract at the end of the season, Ratten has the Blues in fifth position with five wins and a draw from eight matches.
Murphy said at the weekend players should be consulted by club management regarding Ratten's future and that Ratten should coach next year and for "many years to come".

Ratten is a fine fox. Single? ;)

Anyway, this is a ringing endorsement from Murphy, and given it is coming from a player playing his best football in a side playing its best football since Ratts took over, it is all the more valid an opinion.

It's not like players supporting the coach when all of them are down, as it might suggest the players are content to coast under a coach that is not cracking down on them. Ratts has them up and about and they are responding and enjoying it.
