wasnt sure what to think when we announced him and Allan coming over, but Im starting to warm to them.

Especially Allan - absolutely amazing the difference even just a contest in the ruck makes. If only he can stand up (literally) this season.

I think at the time the injection Barnes made to us was taken a bit for granted.

Allan will be a big plus for us this year - just not getting thrashed in the ruck should give our midfield enough opportunity to ***** off a few critcs who don't rate us.

Murphy is as soft as butter when it counts. Unless someone toughens that pr!ck up, he will be in the magoos this year. Make him earn his spot and I'll be happy.

the guy has been weak as pi$$ all his career, that aint gonna change now. He is a front runner - needs to be at a good team and can be very damaging in one.

When things dont go his way, he wont do the hard stuff and will be a waste of space out there. But thats the sorta player he is.

I am confident we will go well this season, and so will he. He will recieve a lot of leather and is fairly damaging with it.

The thing with Murphy is he can kick a mile, and while he is very much the 'link' player (read your Classic South Australian Receiver)
he will get the ball quickly to Lloyd & Cupido, who are excellent in one on ones', but struggle with more than one opponent.

He is a little agro though, angry pills that have been missing since Moorcroft started playing less.
That often means free kicks against, so we'll see if he's smart enough to restrain himself when required.

Show me a team, any team, and i`ll show you one or two front runners, all teams need them. I worshipped Darren Bewick , he was not exactly a hard man.
Pevers-Legend, very silly comment.

early days yet windy, early days....

he does have a classy boot on him, but I'm not passing judgement until at least round 5.....

Allan, on the other hand...
Even though he was pretty rusty the other night, the difference of a competitive ruck was a joy.

And the thought of Hille rotating the ruck and CHF a la Merrett as was suggested in the paper has made my penis hard all afternoon.

Ahh, I miss the old hitman.
:D

You know Syd, there's some things I didn't think you could or would say on BF.
I'm looking forward to Hille being Roger the Dislodger, but perhaps not as much as you.

Does anyone really think Hille is anything similar to Merrett?
Honestly?
I rate him closer to Max Merrett, a daggy Kiwi singer who was around before most of BF members were born.

If you watched the game on Saturday night, you would have seen Murphy baulk at body contests and go to ground. He was soft when it counted physically. Yes he can play a role, but he still needs to learn to play a tad more selflessly when the game is on the line.

He is quite a similar player to Des Headland IMO. Good foot skills, booming kick, downhill skiier, slightly unaccountable, good around goals, same build. If he can play the same sorta roll that Des did in his last season with the lions i will be very happy.

My Carlton mates say he's a useless kick. To take an English soccer euphamism:

"He couldn't hit a cows asre with a banjo!"

From what I've seen since he's been at Essendon, he's a long kick, but he tends to chip it alot.

What I mean, it's like he drops the ball vertically. It ends up having too much hang time. That's fine if he's kicking into space from halfback to the wing, but when he's kicking to Lloyd on a fast lead (and this happened last Sat), Lloyd ends up running under it a touch and gets spoiled.

Then the next kick to Lloyd was superb. Go figure!

If he could kick like that everytime, he'd be a 200 game, 1 club midfielder.

If Sheeds can stop him being lazy, he'll be a deadset bargain.

You can't expect the guy to dive under a pack and die for the club when he has come from Carlton and played only a couple wizard cup games in the Essendon guerney.

We need to give the guy time to find his "passion for the guernsey" and that is NOT going to come from a few pre-season games.

He will harden, especially playing with Essendon. The guy must be trembling with anticipation at the thought of delivering long bombs from CHF to Lloyd and Cupido.

....just give him a little time.
