First full phantom draft found out there not as simple as first thought. I Noticed how one selection can change so much and at times I had a few different scenarios of how things could turn out. Before starting I analyzed each teams playing list, and upon each decision reviewed this as to what their needs were, while still keeping in mind best available. Put a bit of time into this as you can tell, I hope.

Also I made a late change which will happen in the first few picks, I don’t know if it will occur (but does anyone know for sure). It’s a bit of a shock but thought it wasn’t completely unrealistic and at least gives my draft a different outlook. Hopefully it isn’t the only talking point. Hope you enjoy!

Don’t quite have enough time to have described each pick but will soon give a club by club analysis.

1 Melbourne J.Watts
2 West Coast S.Hill
MY SURPRISE now it’s rumored that S.Hill might be taken earlier than thought by the Dockers in recent times, but how about the Eagles. Now Natanui and Rich are both viable options but their ruck stocks are pretty strong with Cox, Seaby and Lynch (pinch hitting). And then that leaves Hill and Rich. Their midfield is re-forming after the loss of 2 of the big 3 and has quite a few players that can find the ball, but will use Hill with his great pace and agility. As I said I’ve gone for something different which might not happen and didn’t want to be boring.
3 Fremantle N.Natanui
4 Port Adelaide T.Vickery
5 Essendon D.Rich
This leaves Rich at pick 5, easy decision. If not available which is highly likely I see Sidebottom or Hartlett here instead of as many have said Hurley, even Yarran is to be considered. If Rich isn’t there I see this as the choice which will affect the draft the most.
6 Carlton M.Hurley
7 Brisbane C.Yarran
Rate Yarran pretty highly and could have gone higher too Carlton could do the trick or could he one of WA teams surprise choice?
8 Richmond J.Ziebell
9 North Melbourne H.Hartlett
10 Adelaide S.McKernan
11 Collingwood S.Sidebottom
Done well from the Hill selection which pushes Sidebottom surprisingly outside the top 10.
12 Sydney L.Johnstone
13 St. Kilda S.Blease
14 Western Bulldogs A.Cordy
15 Geelong M.Robinson
16 Hawthorn J.Trengove

I believe we are going best available with our first 2 picks at least, after that we might draft for type a bit more, so its more than possible that we will go tall with both. Having said that I think we will go with a mid and a KP, but its not cut and dry.

Oh and I doubt we'll pick up Redden as a second rounder, or even a ruckman. Unless he's an outstanding prospect I doubt we'll pick one up before our 3rd pick, may even hold out for the rookie draft. Its not as though we're short on blokes who can ruck and if we pick up Mckernan, along with Sellar, there's a couple who can easily pinch hit in that position if we get desperate.

North clean up here, love it.

lol you must want rich pretty badly...
the rumours about hill are to do with freo...
they prob arent even true or are playing mind games...

After yesterday's news article on Hill I wondered how many phantom drafts it would take to have Hill in the top 10 of the new ones. Answer, 1.

My bet is that they all will now.

Good effort anyhow Bombers41, most of the drafts here have WC taking the same 4 or 5 players. Strauss at 18 was something different.

Lucky you guys got Rich hey.

Enjoyed the read.:thumbsu:

I don't mind you doing something different (i.e. the Hill selection at #2 - It's somewhat reminiscent of Dale Thomas' rise in 2005), but Port Adelaide basically said that if Rich ended up being available at #4, they'd draft him.

If you could re-do it without Essendon being the luckiest team in draft history, it might be a bit more reasonable.

Thanks for the replies, quickly on that it would then go
Port- Rich
Ess- Yarran
Carl- Hurley
Bris- Sidebottom
Rich- Vickery (leaving pick 26 on a mid but I don't have time to re-change everything)
North- Ziebell
Adel- McKernan
Coll- Hartlett

Also after looking at again I see were the Crows fans are coming from and would change Redden to a Mid, but I'll leave my initial choices up for now.

No offence, but what is the point of everyone posting a phantom draft?

I didn't know there were so many eyes watching the TAC Cup and other leagues looking for young footballers.

The novelty has worn off when the OP doesn't comment on every player.

Should be posted in the phantom draft thread unless it's more detailed...

obvious an essendon fan whos done the phantom draft here, as it would be an amazing draft to come out with Rich and Lisle for our first two picks.

Couldn't ask for better really.

In reality, I hope we take Hartlett or Ziebell(as rich is a lock in for top 3 IMO) and Lisle makes it to our second rounder as our KPP prospect.

As good as Hurley is, I think the dons need to go for a real gun midfield prospect first, solid KPP second.

Hehe Essendon fair pretty nicely, even pick 77 Allwright is rated pretty highly.
