Are we the least skilled side in the comp? The amount of times out kicks did not hit the target was pathetic, especially from senior players.
Also the lack of talk hurt us on many occasions.
Guy Richards is no good. He fails to make a mark on any game.
I also think it was too late before we put didak on the ball in the last, it should have been didak and davis in the middle as soon as things went sour in the last. I wish davies was in the team so we could gauge how he would have played out the game when we were getting slaughtered by there mids.
Also, i think our delivery into our forward line (but structure and delivery) was no better than the last 2 years, despite our *guns* being back.
I agree there were some positives to take out of the game (well the first 3 quarters at least) but there were far too many negatives.

We lost it at the selection table. We want in far too top heavy. Davies and Heath Shaw sould have played, while T Cloke and another taller player should have been omitted. That put too much pressure on too few midfielders.

Apart from that there are a lot of positives to take out of the game. Rocca will be better for the run, As will TArrant and Didak. Fraser was outstanding.

Egan and T Cloke have a long way to go.

What happened was when Collingwood were doing good the Crows played that stupid bloody football plan that frustrated the frk out of everyone!

Daisy played well along with a few others.
Why the hell do we go backwards, handpass to other players which are in a worse position, not maning up, kicking to no-one or not looking and kicking to a different player, we had players free on many occasions yet we opted to kick to a CROWS player! I was so bloody p1ssed off tonight and i just wanted to go out there and do it myself:mad:

players i feel that played well who have been hinted at playing for there spot on the list (hinted = internet forum talk!):

lonie, o'bree (i never thought his spot was in jeopardy) and lockyer.

O'Bree has been great this year. Lonie did well, at times made wrong decisions, but showed good pace and composure and kept burton out of it for a while. And lockyer has been consistent so far this year i feel, always very committed.

A sit stands at the moment we are the worst team in the competition.
Egan, T.clo, Johnson, Richards and god knwos who else need to be dropped immediatly. i dont know who will replace them but we are really struggling at the moment. We can catch teams offguard at times but we cant beat them because we dont have the needed class on ball!

dont get too bummed guys. premiership favourite in red hot form and you got close. youll trouble more than a few sides this year and have a good early run. wait til round 10 and see where youre at. get rocca, fraser and buckley on fire and youll be right. good game tonight pies, just ran out of puff.

We certainly need class onballers, but we havent got them atm.

Fraser was very good in the ruck.

Tazz played like a girl.

Thomas displayed a fair bit, hopefully we dont overuse him though and he breaks down, im worried mick will run him into the ground.

In a nutshell same old ******** from the pies, looks like its gunna be a long year again.

I think it's all credit to the winners, im not looking for excuses, and i think you are giving us too much credit. I think we were lucky to be so close at 3 qtr time. Especially when some of your stars were underdone.

In the 1st and 3rd qtrs the pies showed some dash following Fraser's ruckwork. Holland played a good game too. But there weren't many marks inside 50 and crucially, Rutten was allowed to dominate. Though we let a few more goals through than usual, it never looked like our defence was being seriously troubled, which is a good sign for us, though your guns were underdone.
For our part I think our disposal inside fwd 50 was very good --finally-- and we controlled the attacking intent-Collingowo'ds run was spasmodic and obviously faded in the last quarter.

Just caus someone gets 35 possessions doesn't mean he played well. O'Bree is and has been f**king sh**house for three years. 5 of his possessions would have been effective. Don't know why he thinks he can kick left foot, he continually turns it over. Swan had pletny of it, did any of his possessions hurt the opposition. Riccutto touched it six times and kicked six goals.

Lockyer can't kick over a jam tin and turns the ball over just as much as O'Bree and Licuria (how Lockyer didn't see Thomas on the wing all by himself, 50m clear of any player has got me stuffed.)

Lonie was very good, we are finally starting to give him the footy more often, Presti was great, Holland and Buckley servicable, Frasers ruckwork was good but still couldn't take an overhead contested mark to save himself. Thomas was great, took them on and had a crack.

Johnson is another who has a bloody red hot go and others need to take a leaf out of his book, he should also handball at every opportunity. Neon leon is not the answer in the midfield, too slow and Guy Richards should enjoy his time down at Williamstown for the next few weeks after the effort or lack of it, he displayed tonight. Egan = terrible

Burns must come in, is there anyone with some pace on our list that can kick a drop punt? Morrison is not the answer, did we miss Rhys Shaw tonight?

yes we were very lucky! who cares if we can threaten to score goals like we did. he counts for about ******** all if you dont convert and we dont convert coz we dont have class. 1st game of the season and we allready have 2 injuries.

Agree with everything you said except the bits in bold

Lonie is a soft @@!## pulled out of 3 contest's to see who was coming.

Davis never got a run in the mid but everytime the ball went near him he made something happen and he is one of the quickest players on our team.

If MM was serious about improving than anyone who can't kick should be dropped and replaced until they show they can kick properly and lonie needs to be told to go in harder or he wont get a game.

I've posted about 4-5 replies to all the threads about tonight's game and the season coming up, unfortunatley I'm a positive supporter so i get no response.

You guys are weak.

Today's society is made up of negativety and you are all just whingers. It's ok, I bet you all switch on to "tomorrow we have footage of a car salesman exploiting a young chick and/or an american car chase that you won't believe". Enjoy Jeeerrryyy..... but for all of us devote supporters...good signs tonight I reckon.

The kicking was poor, but it's pretty hard when your big forwards aren't making leads. Tarrant, Rocca and Travis Cloke were standing-still too many times last night when our midfielders had possession of the ball. The big forwards had a shocker! But don't worry, it's only Round 1.

I am not disappointed. I was last night, but now that I think of it we were playing the premiers. And we literally had them on the ropes for three quarters, if that's not a satisfying effort nothing will ever be.

Lets forget about last night and concentrate on our win over Hawthorn next week.

Um! I think Sydney are the premiers, Adelaide didnt even make it.

In regards to Collingwood, wouldnt you have thought that over the summer the coaching panel would have worked on the area of skills. Much of the kicking was rubbish and tackling was weak.

Isn't it hypocritical to be negative about your fellow supporters (or "society") being negative??

Eitherway, two quarters, we had a lot to be negative about. For two other quarters, we could probably be quite positive. But it's a four quarter game, and that there were clear patches of mediocrity that need improving, was fairly obvious. Let people have their say.

I am talking about this year. Adelaide winning the flag this year.

The forwards stood still. You know it, I know, Everyone knows it.

Isn't it just the first game?

Aren't Adelaide the favorites or second favorites to win the flag?

Didn't we play 3 quarters of reasonible footy?

Isn't Rocca still a little rusty after 11 months out?

Will 12 wins get an final 8 spot?

Will 15 wins get a top 4 spot?

Isn't there a heap of improvement still to come?

Isn't it just the first game (Oh, I've already said that)?

As a Crows supporter (which probably makes me slightly biased), I thought there were some very positive signs for the Pies last night. Like Fraser, Thomas, Buckley.

Definitely a few kinks that need to be ironed out. Llike delivery to forwards (who need to work even harder), some shortcomings in defence.

But, with a bit of fine-tuning, I reckon you'll definitely win more games than you'll lose this year (which means you play finals footy).

Bandwagoners.

I thought we did quite well for the first three quarters. Let's not forget Adelaide will be one of the teams to beat this year. Let's remember - It's only ONE game.

If we play like we did against the crows next week against Hawthorne, we should definetly go alright.

Yes it is just the first game, but that does not excuse the skill problems that have plagued us for 2 years, and continued into yesterdays game. History suggests this won't improve through the rounds. It's a skill problem, not a lack of match practice.

Adelaide weren't fully fit, and as I mentioned before, I think we were lucky to be in it at 3 qtr time. The score could have been much worse.

No one knows if there is still improvement to come. You can't just assume that Rocca will regain his form before his injuries, same goes for the rest of our injured players.

Also, since you are king of grammar (and negativity towards others), I thought I would highlight your mistake.

While I'm disapointed that we lost, there were some positives out of the game. What frustrated me was the way the game turned out, the last half was ridiculous, and it just frustrated me to sit there and watch tripe like that being served out!! Pathetic excuse for football.

However, I though Thomas was very good in his first game, great things to come from him.

Fraser did very well in the ruck.

Lockyer showed heart, and tackled hard his disposal let him down at stages.

Richards, makes lonie look like a big tough bullie.

I don't want to harp on the performance of our forwards, because the delivery inside 50 was absolute rubbish all night.

As for selection, I was surprised not to see Davies in the 22 but if he was in it probably would have meant that Thomas misses out. Id prefer Thomas over Davies!

As much as I dispise C.Cloke, he should have been playing ahead of Richards. Hope that He comes in for Richards.
