I see Myles again failed to find a home in the AFL.

Thoughts on having a crack in the Rookie draft?

For mine he would be perfect. Early 20's and has performed at an elite VFL level for the last 2 years against a lot of full time AFL footballers. He might not make it, but with so many kids on our list if one of Moloney or Sylvia went down he could come in and have an impact. Conversely is still young enough to be afforded a year or 2 to develop in a full time environment.

Is he good enough to make it as a top class midfielder? (my thoughts no - although a defensive midfielder is one area where we seem to lack a designated player, he could fill this role)

Are we good enough to be adding players purely for depth? (my thoughts no)

If Moloney and Sylvia go down we rely on Jones and McKenzie to provide the grunt. Which should provide options for others like Gysberts, Tapscott even guys like Jetta and Petterd to have a go in the midfield.

If we take him with a rookie pick I won't be disappointed. But nor will I if we leave him (unless he becomes Barlow v2).

I was actually waiting for his name to be called out, but it never was. I was hoping someone would take it, wouldn't have minded him myself if Melbourne had of called him out. But with that being said, I'm happy with what we got (at the moment anyway lol)

BTW: No one took Paul Johnson!

Not a lot of love for many of the fancied VFL players.

Should get their chance in the Rookie Draft though, wonder if Valenti will get another shot?

Just goes to show that despite the fact that state-league players seem to be flavour of the month thanks to a combination of the GC's involvement in the draft and players like Barlow and Pods, the recruiters are still picking based on talent and potential rather than on what's considered to be fashionable at the moment.

On Sewell, I don't see him adding anything to the team, so I'd be inclined to take a punt on someone else rather than him. Moreover, he's very lightly built and doesn't appear to have the body type to bulk up any further, so whilst he's a good inside midfielder at VFL level, I think he may struggle to make the transition to AFL football.

Having said that, if we were in the position to win a flag this year, then I might consider adding him as depth. As it stands, though, I'd much rather talented kids like Gysberts playing and developing, as opposed to someone like Sewell playing ahead of them.

North Ballarats Stephen Clifton would be a better fit for you guys.

Excellent inside and hard as nails

Hey guys, have seen a few games of Myles over the past couple of seasons and he has come on in leaps and bounds but I am completely with you lot.

He is an under midfielder who's 77kg frame I feel will really struggle to step up to the rigours of the top level of footy.

I am unsure whether he has enough tricks to play at AFL level, which is possibly one of the big knocks on him and whilst he is no slouch pace wise, will AFL be to quick for him?

I think someone will call his name out in the rookie draft (linked to GWS as a start up player) and hopefully he can prove me wrong, but at the minute, I have my doubts.
