NAB Challenge 2016

Just got home, and would like to share some of my thoughts on us just winning the grand final. Would you like to hear them?

Guess what, i don't care..

+ Got to sit in the members section right alongside all the eagles boys who weren't playing. And Nicoski with his spray tan, bleached hair and whitened teeth
+ Really liked the cut of Nelsons jib. Watching him live he did so many good things and ran hard all game.
+ Naitanui 'looked' like he spent a lot more time on the ground, although just checking it was only 74%. Either way he was pretty dominant.
+ Took Emac a little while to warm into the game, but he came good in the second half i thought. Good to have his first hitout out of the way.
+ There was no line at chicken treat when i went to load up at half time. Had a chuckle at the old grandma complaining about the cost. As if you'd even be surprised these days when a hot chicken roll at the footy costs $8.50. Pffft, amateur.
+ Watching Patrick get cleaned up in the first couple of minutes made me think it was going to be a good day.

- We were absolutely horrendous. Just looked slow and like we weren't actually implementing a gameplan, minimal structure.
- Keep thinking Duggan is going to do something spectacular, but he isn't finding a great deal of the football. 9 touches in 79% gametime.
- Lycett didn't really have any influence on the game IMO. Same old story for him. Sinclair always found a way to get involved, Scott didn't in this game.
- Jetta's injury. Initially i was like "get the **** back out there you weak campaigner", but then i ate something.
- With the exception of Lecras, nobody in our team was really dominant. Which is fairly disappointing when you look at it being the grand final side from last year vs the backup players from a side which missed finals completely. No forward really stood up. No midfielders had a field day. Whole team got bought down to their level, just like last year in that away game we played against them.

Overall it's a couple of pretty uninspiring nab games we've played now. Hopefully by the time nab 3 rolls around we can start playing some good footy.

Quite
heheh..Andrew Donnely. How many seasons did he play?
Quite a few from memory
I am more concerned of the likelihood that its something that bothers him moving forward with the chance of recurring. Please be a one off!
having had calf problems in the past, the most important thing is to make sure you warm up properly pre-match. This was my undoing.

When has the NAB challenge been any indication of the season proper.

Other than the obvious Carlton reference, the thing which springs to mind for me was last years Nab game against fremantle.

We were shocking. Our midfield was absolutely putrid and most/some/yourmum of us on here thought "here we go again".

After storming into a grand final with 90% of the team having career best seasons just goes to show it isn't everything.

I think we played against a Rodney Eade game style today that was visually horrible to watch he's finally got arguably the most talented flamboyant list to play a crappy very hard to watch smothering Fremantle like game plan.........3 cheers for the dinosaur !!
Yes was thinking the same thing. Between him when he coached Sydney and at the same time the Western Bulldogs coach brought in the flooding. B**** awful and boring to watch. Gold Coast have many promising players on their list - hope Rodney does not stifle their natural style of play?

Sydney used to get smashed in every pre-season game and it was never an indication of how they would go in the season proper.

I would've liked to have seen a bit more from Duggan and Lycett, these guys probably aren't as locked into the best 22 as others so you'd expect them to fight a bit harder for it.

They ran rings around us...

They had half their side out - we were largely full strength

I don't care what gamestyle they have - we should accounted for them easily

Hopefully that blew out some rust and we are good to go by nab 3

We have a tough first month - need to hit the ground running

Hmmmm, sound advice. So the bunch of us that may have been a little quick to action, how do we un-microwave plastic?

Ok.

Rusty as ****. Turned up late though.

Concerned about the niggles to engine room. Jetta the obvious concern.

Darling not burying any demons just yet. Mitch Brown can't shake the voodoo doll.

Miles in the legs good. Yeo looked better with Priddis in the team. Gaff just so prolific, few turnovers on the far wing, breeze? Duggan early, was reasonable.

All in all a nice hit out that had a great intensity late.

Saw little today to inspire any confidence in the season ahead so just write it off as a practice game and trust it's all part of a grander plan

Our first game of the season is a little over 3 weeks away. There's a lot of wrinkles to iron out between now and then

I know this is a prick of a thing to say but im glad brown got injured as it means no juggling act with talls in defence, schofield can play on the guerilla, emac can cover the second tall / ruck / sweep when needed and gov can be the superstar CHB we all love and swing forward when needed as well.

tbh I thought the same thing myself, just makes the call that bit easier for the MC.

nah i rather emac on the guerrillas. Our game plan made schoey stronger that what he is. Few times last year he got monstered when he was left 1v1. His more than capable of taking them but emac is AA quality lockdown. Maybe schoey takes the monsters till emac finds his feet and feels confident.

I'd prefer to have a fit squad and have the match committee earn their keep by making smart decisions that give us the best chance of winning a game of football. I think we're all a little bit haunted by the three ruck policy that was in place before Coxy's retirement, but honoring Dean with a few extra games at the end of his career is in a completely different league to trying to fit in an extra tall defender who's played 100 games.

If we can't fit Brown in, he plays for East Perth.

I'm hoping to see Jetta gel with our playing system
Lycett to step up (expecting a big season from him)
Bennell/Karpany to kick some roving goals
Some midfield time for Nelson
No injuries
Jetta looked pretty good until he hurt his calf, although there wasn't much of a system being used
Lycett was OK but nothing special.
Bennell looked OK up forward again, especially early on. He was involved in a few of our early scoring chances
Nelson mainly played back, but looked good. Had a good battle with Martin
Injuries to Jetta & Brown the concerns

Shep would have been close to our most polished/best player, good to see him resuming where he left off last season

Have always hated Rodney Eades game plan. Could see it implemented bloody boring to watch.. And yes chill it's only NAB cup we will be up and about in our first game

I don't think Mitch was going to be in round 1 anyway to be honest.
