WE ARE ****ING CHOKE ARTISTS!

I'm sorry to say, but were are and I'm sick of it. It's ok to lose, it's not about that, but everytime we play good for a whole game, especially against a quality opposition, it always comes down to the last 30 seconds, and everytime we ****ing choke! Why US?!? Now I can't watch Melbourne for another 4 weeks and to my luck when I do, we will probs get thrashed. Why don't we know how to win, why is it that we can NEVER hang on. We outplayed hawthorn all day and with 30 seconds to go, ONCE AGAIN, the biggest choke artists in the league fail yet again. **** This shit I swear, might aswell give us the spoon early, this is ****ed. We can't handle pressure. Every single time it comes down to the last 30 seconds, you know Melbourne will lose, they don't know how to hang on. They did it in Daniher's last game as coach, they did it plenty of times last year, it's getting ridiculous, learn how to hang on for ****s sake. With 35 odd seconds left and hawthorn kicking into their 50, i called it easy. Roughead will get this, just watch...and what happened? He got it. We had a whole teams worth down there and earlier they could stop the ball, but in the end when it mattered most? Ohh **** no, never. ****ing hell, we are hopeless. No wonder people don't buy memberships. I know it's only the NAB cup, but losing from 33 points in front is a ****ing disgrace. They ought to be ashamed of themselves.

Your true Red and Blue,
Passionate Demon supporter,
SMD.

P.S: Sorry for getting a lil emotional, but it eats me up inside. I hate it. I can't take it anymore, we deserve better. I was looking forward to next week and a possible NAB cup victory, just to see us win one cup for once, but no, 30 seconds is all it took, as usual. It's bad enough we gotta wait 5+ years for a flag. I just wanna see us win something, just once, is that too much to ask for?

We choked and choked massively. It was an important game for us, the good press that would have came in for beating the reigning premiers would have been very promising for potential sponsors and members.

Instead we blew it all in true Melbourne style. What was it, one point to 5 goals in the last quarter? Absolutely laughable.

Scully & Butcher '09.

Worked all day, so I only caught the last qtr on SEN. Just bloody knew that Hawthon would turn it on if it suited them, class won the day in the end. Depressing that even at half rat power they can beat us, in a game that was WAAAAAAAAAAAY more important to us.

Couldn't have recieved a worse draw than this & to overcome that would've been a big f u to the footy world. Giving up a 6 goal lead is just plain garbage, you could hear the concern in the commentators voices well before Hawtorn snatched the lead.

If I'm allowed some postives in such a thread, we appear a hell of a lot sharper & fitter than at this time last season. Whelan played, McLean played & Morton, Cheney & Garland appear ready to step up.

Yep pissed off!

Yeah, there was plenty of positives no doubt. But to lose the way we did, it's inexcusable. Shattered.
Positives were lost in the loss IMO.

None of this "we're developing the young blokes" rubbish either, Hawthorn had a younger side out there today - we just went to water, when Brown, Mitchell, Williams and Sewell were running riot in that last term, where were our leaders? Bruce? McLean? Jones?

Bunch of frontrunners we are, looked great when the other side wasn't trying.

5 goals to 1 point in that last quarter, ffs.

Im glad other supporters are as disgusted as i am.
Piss weak effort and it was disgraceful.
That was not the way to perform when you are looking to find a major sponsor.

Im now officially worried for the year. Kicking was appalling as was the tackling.

Ill try stay optimistic but **** that was a shit performance.

Heh heh.

What's with the sooky ladada. If Zomer had have played, we'd have won.

Watts, Jetta and Strauss should have played. **** this they're not ready yet crap. For a team tha spouts about rebuilding, they sure don't go about it in a logical manner.

Agreed, i found that dumb as well, look at garland... jeff garland (i think that was his name) for carlton, He is smaller then a lot of year 12's (yeah i know he is that age) but the year 12's that dont play footy, he looks like one of them. That boy needs weight training.

As soon as i saw us lead by 33 going into the last break (and the breeze started, dont it always) im like ffs, we are going to lose... AGAIN!!!!!!!!

Melbourne if you are ahead, play the freaking same, dont change play. Its pathetic

Comiseratons first off. I see alot of similarities in the points mentioned in the OP to Hawthorn of a couple of years ago. All I can say is stick with them and it doesn't last forever. I can vividly remember us NEVER beating anyone convincingly and just holding on (thats IF we won) so dont be too upset guys.

that last goal should've been a free for us. twice. roughead held our blokes arm and jumper and pushed him in the back. at the agm bailey kept saying he wants us to be competitive. there is a definate 2 -3 year plan here. we will only win only whats necessary to get our picks 1 and 2 but be extrememly competitive in most games. i like the future. one more year of pain, but this is what it takes these days. GO DEEZ 2010 AND BEYOND

where were our leaders? Bruce? McLean? Jones?
Well I am glad that you have finally taken the rose coloured glasses off about McLean even if it took a loss like this BC. TBH even in the first 3 quarters I thought he was servicable at best. Still a little slow and still needs to show a bit more vision - naturally he will improve though.

The fact of the matter is that Hawthorn only played one quarter today and that is all it took them. Our side did not choke today, our youngsters were bloody great but our midfield was once again shown for what it is. Hawthorn did the same thing to us last year in round 9 - played 3 average quarters, Clarkson put a rocket up them and then they turned it on as if we weren't there. Sure McDonald would have helped but they lost Osborne so it is much of a muchness. This shit starts from the middle and we failed.

Ok, now the other thing we have to put into perspective. We didn't have a forward line today and it is our own fault. Sure Bate was good when he was on but apart from that we were not dangerous on any level in front of goals. For all his bloody hard work, Miller just can not put it on the score board. 40 metres out he has no hope, his kicking style is suspect at best. I hope he improves on this but at his age it is unlikely. TBH apart from Green and Bate I don't think we have a steady and strong kick for goal - not anyone that you would put the dogs kennel on (God knows you wouldn't bet the house). You look at Roughead or Fevola or Bradshaw and they all take marks and can bloody kick the ****en thing, goals win matches.

As much as I hate to vilify people publically I just have to say how Newton gets a guernsey in modern AFL when the game has never been more faster or competitive has me stuffed. I honestly think Newton belongs in the 1980s.

We have Watts and Jurrah as future prospects but jeez. Wona cops an injury and we have nothing up forward. Ok Maric is injured but he is a future prospect anyway.

As much as I wan't to keep playing the role of the peed off Dees supporter I feel content in restraining myself (despite pissing 300k down the toilet) and feel more so for the youngsters who busted a gut. They deserve some credit and to be labelled chokers and weak by some of our "supporters" is more pathetic than our last quarter.

Once again it was our midfield that went to water and on the odd chance we did get the ball up forward in the final quarter we had no system under pressure nor the talent to slot one single ****en goal for the entire quarter - fault of our youngsters? NO!

I just hope the football department learns a few things out of this little 300k lesson. Bate should have played as much as possible, I know rotations are important and blooding other players but it was a big call in the end.

As much as today sucked though there were some genuine positives (despite what some people say). Spencer looks like he could be a reasonable ruck option which is damn significant. Grimes looked good, Petterd showed courage, Garland and the other defenders were ok.

This game may just sum up the year we have ahead of us. Honest footy amongst the youngsters but no polish up forward and not enough of our developed players hurting the opposition (despite their hard work).

This is where we are at atm even before we blood any new stock from the drafts (besides Bail who got a kick) so there is no point getting too anxious about all this I suppose although my language now is no where near as colourful as it was during the final quarter.:o

There was a mental shift when you guys finally won the ball with 3 1/2 minutes left and then proceeded to ice the clock instead of attack.

Your players have to want to win the game, not save it. Strong leaders are needed to change this mindset from hope to believe.

I'd take a 3 point loss (robbery) over a 10 goal defeat (against Geelong this time last year) anyday of the week.

Not saying I'm happy with the loss - we should not have blown a 5 goal lead - but 3 quarters of promising footy is a lot better than 0 quarters of promising footy in the corresponding match last year.

Spot on.

Merc are you going to write a match report on demonblog?

Writing as we speak. Could take a while - requires therapy to think about that last quarter.

couldnt have said it better myself. its definitly an improvement from last year

wasted opportunities in front of goal cost us. 1.8.9
Miller, PJ and Sylvia x2

Dunn was unlucky not to get a super goal as well

down the other end Hawthorn kicked 11.3

i can't find a quarter by quarter break down of inside 50's. could anyone help me with this?

Nice to see this thread is up and running. It just goes to show that I'm not the only one in pain.

BTW, don't know who said it earlier but, newton is bloody hopeless. Sylvia should be alot better by now also. On a final note, I also expected more from Davey but ahwell, what can ya do.

P.S: as you can see, since my OP, I've calmed down a bit now ;) Disappointed but calm lol.

Very good write up... will be the things i look forward too most after the many thumpings we shall receive this season.

Where is this "write up" located? I'd like to have a read :)
