For some reason you and many Power fans are trying to talk down this huge talent.

Why is that?

And why is your club reportedly offering the biggest contract in AFL history for him?

Keeping it on topic, and not to impugn your motives for seeking to talk up his value, my point is establishing value is most accurately done on the basis of evidence and data points, not breathless hyperbole.

To that end, a player’s value is best determined by achievements and excellence over years in the case of the very best players.

At this stage I would be utterly shocked if he’s not playing for Port next year. Hope he stays at the Saints though, they finally get a good player with their first round pick and he leaves…
The only way Port get enough trade capital to satisfy St Kilda is by trading Butters.

Are you sure? This link below seems to suggest he was with Port:
He was in both. Started in the Crows academy and moved to Port academy believed to be due to Gavin connection. Wasn’t eligible for either team as a NGA pick because he didn’t have 3 consecutive years at either academy.

Their value is market value, which is dictated by the market ie. Journos. They rate him highly so his price is high.

All the indigenous lads in SA prefer to be linked to Port it goes back decades before the AFL days.

Would port & adelaide have $2,000,000 x 10 years in their cap
Apparently we can do it. If you look at our players past the best 6 we couldn't be paying them that much. And I believe the 2 million figure is for the first 2 years only front ended then scales back.

Not sure about the Crom. Dawson and Rankine on the big bucks but after that they will start to have to pay more soon for some of them. I'd say they probably have more capacity to pay it than us at this moment in time.

Not true - he wasn't eligible for either because SA teams at that stage were not allowed access to indigenous NGA's from the metro area only remote areas of SA. In 2019 we were then allowed access to metro indigenous players only after Pick 40.

But what is true he was in the Adelaide Crows Academy and then ours afterwards.

Most South Australians would struggle to name an indigenous Port Adelaide player prior to 1980.

There were very few in the whole SANFL prior to the 1980s.

Michael ‘Flash’ Graham in the late 60s/early 70s - Sturt
Roger Rigney - mid/late 60s - Sturt
David Kantilla - Early 60s - South Adelaide
Eddie Fry - late 70s - South Adelaide
Richie Bray - 1960s - Port Adelaide
Syd Jackson - early 1960s - Glenelg
Bertie Johnson - early 1960s - West Adelaide
Sonny Morey - early 1970s - Central Districts
Wilbur Wilson - unsure - Central Districts

So my point being is when you say Port has an indigenous pedigree that goes back ‘decades B4 the AFL’ - thats not correct - the increase in numbers has only been since the early 80s.

HOWEVER - Port DO have a strong cultural connection amongst certain indigenous families - Achees, Cockatoos, Daveys, Burgoynes, O’Briens, Motlops, Mileras, Bonds and the Agius brothers.

This strong mostly RECENT representation (including family) is the Ace they hold.

Andrew McLeod says hi. As does $tiffy Johncock and the best indigenous players currently in SA, Izak Rankine and Wayne Milera
McLeod feels happier walking into Alberton than West Lakes.. will you ever sort that out?

Johncock was a Port Maggie & Milera was in our academy never would've got to you if we had access.

I'll give you Rankine he hates Port.. there's one at every party he's bloody good though.

Firstly, Crows are still quietly confident with Nas - this has been confirmed to me by “a decision maker”. We have our “3 x firsts” and players ready to go. I am certainly very invested in the Nas acquisition if it plays out that way.

Unfortunately whilst replying you skipped the crucial part. Why are PORT POWER valuing NWM as the most expensive player in AFL history? I am not the one putting contractual values on his head, it’s your own list management team. Why are they valuing him so highly? Please explain.

And as any casual fan understands there is a high degree of correlation between a players quality, his contractual value ($$/years) and the requisite trade compensation needing to be offered up to satisfy the counter-party in a fair and equitable manner. Sure we are on the same page here aren’t we? Please confirm.

PS a genuine quick compliment to some of the Power posters here. That Bomber guy of yours is a gun and very reasonable and also a good judge. And wasn’t Bomber Clifford an absolute champ in his time (along with other legends in the early 80s like Abba, Braddles, Phillips, Giles, Grave Danger, Eckerman, Kinnear, Timmy Evans and Bucky C. And Russ. All worth less than NWM though. But amazing team I saw live DOZENS of times - lawn bowls end)

Feel like the saints have shot themselves in the foot with the de koning offer. The level just distorts everything and NWM rightly would expect to be paid more than TDK.

Port I still think have a pretty good list with young talent and I have them a bit ahead of saints in terms of playing finals.

Then you’ve got the factor that saints are one of 10 clubs in victoria and not up with the biggest in terms or marquee fixtures and crowds.

I’d be shocked if he stayed but could be due to a sense of loyalty and relationships with in the club but just comparing them based on what I’ve said above you can see why he would leave.

You've forgotten the most important to this thread the Wanganeens unless you think Kevin Sheedy invented them.

If you are quietly confident, what’s did you propose as the contract terms and eventual trade for NWM to land at Adelaide?

You are talking 3xfirst, (which will like be later first) and/or which player?

The journos aren't the market, the clubs competing for his services are, including the incumbent St Kilda.
