If his name wasn't Ablett, would he have ever got a game at Geelong?
Would you have accepted 28 goals from him at the start of the season?

We don't need a like-for-like replacement, we just need a little extra effort from the six guys in the back line. This is a challenge, and I reckon our boys will react well to it. Bring Max back, give Mackie a role, get Dash to play across half back, blocking up space, tell Otto and Blake to fill holes, and make sure that the Kangas' midfielders are always under the pump when they have the ball. Do that, and their talls won't have much of an impact.
Losing Ego sucks bad, but we are still the best team in the league, and we can adjust without throwing guys all over the ground.

IMO for the finals, i would play NAthan Ablett purely because he has had more experience, and would cope better, however if an injury was to occur to eith him or Mooney then play him.
Play em both:
B: Harley...Scarlett...Mackie
HB: Enright...Milburn...Woja
C: Ling...Gaz...Selwood
HF: Stokes...Nath...Chappy
F: SJ...Mooney...Kelly
Foll: Bartel...Ottens...Corey
Int. Blake, Rooke, Hunt, Hawkins
I like it, but we will lack a little pace in the forward line omitting both Varcoe and Byrnes.
Not if you swap Stokes and Kelly (so that Stokesy plays almost totally inside 50), and then you've got Gaz Jr and Chappy rotating down there as well. Not as fast as usual, but still very mobile.
Not just that, but better skills, and much stronger physically than Byrnes or Varcoe as well.
A key factor in our loss to Port was that with Stokes, Byrnes and Varcoe in the team we had 3 small guys, instead of 1 or at most 2. I lost count of the number of times those guys were flattened in heavy tackles. It won't be that easy to do against Ablett or Chapman (or Rooke or Bartel etc).

I think playing both this week would be a good move against the Roos. Lets not be reactive and think North will outplay us...lets attack their lack of height in defence and back our midfield to beat theirs. I dont care if North score 100 pts in this match if we score 120+ which we are quite capable of doing I believe if we continue with an attacking frame of mind.
Was about to post something very similar.
They are boasting about having SO much height in their forward line with McIntosh and Hale, Brown etc. But if we load our forward line with Ottens, Hawkins, Mooney and Nathan then they will have to put talls back.
It will be a battle of the midfeilds!
In finals that is so often the case and I think we should feel as confident as any side of competing well in this department for the remainder of this season.
