In my opinion, Nathan Bock is the best CHB in the league. I struggle to think of anyone in the competition who plays the position better than him.

Which is why I read with interest an article in the Herald Sun on the weekend that (if you believe their sources) the selectors have already crossed out a few names from last year's AA team and among the players already ruled out is Nathan Bock.

If Nathan Bock is omitted from the AA list, I guess it would be because of the off-field incident, his subsequent suspension followed by his hamstring injury and not because of his form or ability?

If Bock played out the rest of the year up to the standard of his AA form last year (which I think he can), would that be enough for him to retain his spot as the AA CHB (and if the report is accurate, reverse the decision of the selectors who have already ruled him out)?

That surely couldn't be true. He is playing out of his skin, far and away the best-performing CHB in the league. Probably more likely is that early on in the year when he'd missed a few games he hadn't played much so they felt that at that rate he wouldn't get a guernsey, but by this stage he should practically have the award already sewed up.

Read that article too and was surprised by a couple of things, firstly that Bock was apparently out of the running for an AA spot given his mid season form. Apart from the games he has missed due to injury and suspension, i am very surprised by that thinking. Secondly was the number of West Coast players up for consideration. Adam Selwood, Dean Cox, Mark Le Cras? If A Selwood is up for nomination for his run with role then surely the young one must be considered too?? Mark Le Cras' form is only the equal of Porps and even Chris Knights is beginning to make a case. But it's the omission of Bocky at the hands of Chris Tarrant that really leaves me puzzled as does the complete lack of respect given to Scott Thompson.

If as the article suggests, Roo didn't have anything to add to the overall discussion due to a lack of options from either Adelaide based team, i am quite frankly shocked. I'm hoping that the line was said more in jest than anything else.

Have read for yourselves.

I read the article, sounds to me that they were just commenting that a bunch of last year's players had been injured this year, not that Bock wasn't considered anymore.

The line about Roo was clearly an indication that very few Port/Crows players were mentioned, not something meant to be taken literally.

IddyBiddy - to be fair, Doughty was having a pretty average season before the Carlton match when he started playing a run-with role. I don't think he had played that role this year before that match.

Here is the Bock V Tarrant comparison. They are pretty even on everything, bar Bocky averaging 8 more kicks and 4 more handballs.....:phttp://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/...id1=1311&tid2=9&pid2=180&type=A&fid1=S&fid2=S

And here is Lecras V Porps - where Porps is only slightly worse off in goals per game, but performs better in tackles and assists

But Chris Knights shows here that his stats this year when compared with another top small forward like Lecras are outstanding:

What you don't get on the online version is the graphics provided with the paper on Saturday, which had Bocks name in a list of players that would not be in the side if it was picked today.

Knights would be the same as Bock - has performed awesomely when he's been in the side, but has been injured for part of the season. Knights is great but five great matches in a row don't mean that much in the context of an entire season. If Knights holds his current form I'd say he's be a definite AA selection.

Five in a season maybe not, but to midyear, they do.

I presume that's extrapolation on behalf of the newspaper, right? I wouldn't read too much into that :o

Of course. But you could say that about the whole article and the journalists view and we wouldn't be having a conversation right now:p.

Yeah but don't forget that 3 out of every 8 stats are made up ;).

Stats are relatively meaningless in today's football. It's got to be about more than that. It should be about impact on the game and with only three wins in the bank and 79%, is Tarrant's impact as valuable as Bock's?. I'd be interested in how many possessions or defensive rebounds have lead to goals for each player.

sounded like a pisstake to me...??
I actually agree, seems the article was a bit of light hearted fun from the journalist paying out Eddie, doubt much could be read into it. However, by years end I would expect a couple of our boys to be there, Bock, Knights or Porpie if form is kept up.:thumbsu:
