Nathan Brown forward please...

In my opinion, Nathan has not looked the part as of yet (as a player) because he has had to concern himself with not only his game, but also negating someone elses. I think if he has a licence to lead where he wants or even stay deep and take a big contested mark he could flourish. Im not saying it will work! BUT....you saw first hand what J.Brown and N.Riewoldt did on the weekend and in my opinion Jack and Travis will NEVER do this. Nathan Could. He may not, but he is the most likely do take a game by the balls.

We could do this...

Persist with Reid at CHB.
Have Cloke on a HFF
Have Anthony in a FP/FF position
Have N.Brown either at a deep CHF position (starting 30 out) or simply at FF.

those 3 talls would work! and it also gives valuable game time to reid. however the question is... what do you do with Leigh Brown and Fraser - forward line will be too tall with them (cant all be there)

THoughts?

There is the possibility of trialling Cloke at HB and Anthony in a BP.
This gives Fraser a spot up forward and Leigh Brown, well he is a utility anyway.

The bonus about doing this is that all players will have an education in both the forward and back halves.

Personally I think Medhurst is the best full forward on our list and hasn't really been mentioned in this argument. He is similar to Mark Williams early in his career when he used to kick 60+ goals but Medhurst is a better player. Medhurst can mark over his head, he can lead effectively, he can crumb like a small forward, etc. which makes his a pretty scary matchup for a full back for his versatility and quality. He may not be big but we wouldn't have the Bulldogs problem of the last couple years because we would at least have some tall forwards and players like Cloke, Reid and Leroy who could go in there.

I would try a forward line of;
Lockyer Medhurst Anthony
Didak Fraser Thomas

**Once Rusling is fit, him to FF, Medhurst to Lockyer's pocket and Lockyer to the interchange bench. People may say Fraser isn't physical enough to play CHF and he probably isn't the "ideal" footballer but at least he has some attributes. Cloke has marking and nothing else. At least Fraser can kick, has great endurance, can forward line ruck and can pick it up off the ground. He will kick more goals than Cloke and opposition teams won't have the luxury of playing smalls on him as he has shown in the past that he can play deeper and play a role.

I like the Cloke to CHB idea - he is simply a crap CHF. He hasn't been a very good player since 2007 and hasn't been a decent player since 2008. He was absolutely terrible last year and has been so far this year. There was a 10 minute period against Melbourne when I thought he was showing some touch but he played stupidly; bombing in high four or five times to a forward line without a dominant forward is terrible football. He simply never drops his eyes; he never even looks at all. He needs to be trialled as a full forward, tried at CHB (which is not settled at the moment with Reid being tried there) or dropped. Maxwell would not be shoved because he is not a CHB - he is a loose man in defence.

Why don't we just keep persisting with Cloke at CHF to a point where he hates football, isn't getting a kick, and we are then forced to trade him to a side who can transform him in to an (almost) AA backman?

I'd love Cloke and Brown to swap around

I want to see how it works. Look at Tarrant at the Dockers for example we never played him a KD with us and he's doing alright in his new position.

Worth a go IMO

Let me get this right...

A large 'straight lines' KPP with 10-20 games of senior experience, average kicking skills, and virtually no time as a forward since junior football is supposed to come in and replace a Copeland winning CHF with a full career of football as a forward behind him and magically be the answer??

Don't get me wrong, Travis is serving up some tripe at the moment, but our gamesyle doesn't lend itself to a dominant CHF - it would actually be pretty tough to play that position for Collingwood.

I have also heard that Anthony should go back to defence, or be dropped because he won't chase. So am I to conclude that we want to shore up our defence with a tall player who is suspect in 1 on 1 contests and won't chase? Ahem, No thanks!

We were the highest scoring team in Rd 1 and one of the highest scoring teams in 2009. While I would love to see a big unit in the F50 kicking 5 a game our forward line actually functions pretty well and isn't too predictable. It's why Geelong have been a better team than Carlton over the last 5 years (...or one reason at least!) The Dogs game was a great example where Cloke and Anthony were effectively decoys all day.

I really hope Dawes can take a step forward because I like his creativity for a big man, but I am losing confidence in this by the week. Apart from tha, Rusling is the only real back-up, but he also won't be the messiah people are hoping for.

No.
Better as a backman. Bring him in against St.K to take Riewoldt. Like Cloke needs confidence, but once he strings together a few games again he will be fine.
Would rather 3 of: Cloke, JA, Rus, Fraser, L.Brown, Dawes up forward at a time than have N.Brown take up space.

Igniter has the perfect forward setup for us. If we end up trying it. I think N.Brown, Cloke and Anthony could work and it would definitly stretch other teams backlines.

I like the Goldsack suggestion. Not as a key forward, but he adds incredible pressure to the forward line, and can take a contested mark.

I think our key forward stocks are almost a lost cause. Jack simply can't beat a good defender, he seems to be less mobile this year and worse in a contested marking situation. I'm happy to give him time to come good though. Cloke... enough has been said about his form. He can look great for a few minutes [prior to getting cut on Saturday he was pretty good], but then go missing or just turn it over. Dawes can't take contested marks, and that's a requisite. Brown has the tools, I agree it's worth a try, because we don't have much else.

Anyway, Goldsack or JMac forward... we really need more forward pressure and a physical presence.

I'd be happy to see:

HF: Didak Cloke Davis
FF: Goldsack Anthony Medhurst

Dick to return will be massive for us, and if Jack/Cloke's form continues, give Dawes or Nate a crack.
