The forward line is struggling. Anthony is better suited down back and Cloke can not play as the number 1 forward.

Nathan Brown needs to be given the opportunity.
He is a strong mark up forward, when he doesn't have to think about being defensive.

I would like to see Jack go back to the VFL and freshen up on his defensive skills, then come back as a defender. Nathan Brown to full forward.

Nope, Doesn't deserve it, simply put.

If anyone is going to come in and play forward, it is Dawes, simple as that.

I don't disagree with the idea of playing Brown up forward in the VFL next week to see how he goes though, but we can't bring him straight into the seniors simply because he hasn't played forward at any level for so long.

Agree with the Anthony call too, in fact I thought he should have gone back on Pettard yesterday, I mean, he couldn't have done any worse then Shaw.

The problem with bringing Dawes in is we 'know' he'll get beaten.
He won't kick more than a couple of goals.
Brown is an unknown and has shown glimpses when he has pushed forward.
We won't beat the Saints with Jack, Cloke or Dawes up forward.
Is Rusling right to go yet because he would be a good inclusion.

Nope isnt a good forward, yeah he is big but just doesnt read the play well enough to be a forward, its obvisous at full back he struggles to read the play at full forward he will be at best a cheap goal decoy.

Rusling or McCaffer are our best two options for full forward after our current two

Nah Rus isn't right yet, similar to Brown, hasn't played as a forward in the VFL either, no one knows why though.

Dawes and Brown are the only 2 choices, although as I stated yesterday, maybe a smaller forward line with the likes of MaCaffer or MaCarthy might be the answer.

Something has to change, we all know that.

Rus is a forward, no matter where he is played currently he knows how to play full forward

Nate is a defender and will always be a defender, great kid, big body is no forward.

Dawes is huge but has the weakest hands will be beaten all ends up as the number 1

Rusling at FF when fit, Brown CHF and MaCaffer in the pocket.. Cloke to CHB.. Worth a try

This. And that there are still Jack -> defender calls makes me chuckle.

If anyone, I wouldn't mind seeing Reid given another shot up forward. At least he'll be able to burn off his defender occasionally.

I'm not averse to dropping Anthony for a couple of weeks, because his work rate isn't there and he's not chasing.

I don't think Brown up forward is the answer though, it either has to be Dawes > MacAffer > not at all. Based upon MacAffer's second half yesterday (and I'll readily admit I didn't see the first) I wouldn't be bringing him in at this stage.

Reid has already had a shot up forward and he stunk it up, though maybe he'll be better now.
Jack is only good forward when the team is up and running.
He was fantastic as a backman in the VFL. He went forward out of necessity.
He needs to go back. One good game every 5 up forward is pointless.
I'd prefer he didn't play at all if that's the case.

Brown's twin did a pretty good job for WC as a key forward yesterday. They've also played him on-ball and he's done a fair job there as well. Given that they are identical twins, there's no reason why we shouldn't try and get a bit more out of Nathan as well.

Mitch was a key forward as a junior and reads the play that much better

Play Nathan at full forward in the VFL for a few weeks before trying this in seniors. Have the feeling Nathan would struggle anywhere at the minute, doesn't have any touch.

Anthony was supposedly a replacement for Clement, he is now our FF.
Presti was drafted as a KPF, he has been our FB for a decade.
Reid was supposedly a forward, he has been shifted down back.
Even Tarrant is being used down back!

No reason why you cant swap....

Dawes would also make a good CHB.......he has the fitness and strength to go with the forwards........

Brown has the size and strength to be our gorilla forward, our Rocca replacement.

Worth a try at VFL level, especially if they prefer Reid down back now.

Stupid OP IMO.

Firstly, if we take away Jack from FF, we take away a player that has kicked 75 goals from 30 games and replace him with someone who has kicked no more than 5 career goals in as many games. Simply doesn't stack up.

Jack is our FF. He is incredibly reliable in front of goal.

People forget he had shoulder surgery throughout the pre-season so his preparation has been limited.

However, too many are quick to jump the gun and send him down back or to the twos. He is not a defender anymore. He is our FF!!

As for those questioning his "defensive efforts", they may not have been up to scratch yesterday but they were in round 1 against the Dogs.

Jack won't be and shouldn't be dropped, full stop.

Point 1: You're stupid
Point 2: He needs to mark the ball first to have a shot. He is down on form.
Point 3: It is not about jumping the gun. I have been calling for the Brown/Anthony switch for some time. Yes he is our FF, but he's not very good at it. As a backman he was stellar.

How about this:

Jack to move into the midfield. Cloke to play full back. Bring Rusling in and play him on the wing. Nathan Brown should also come in, but only when it's a full moon and Harry-O is wearing red underwear. Move Presti to full forward three times during the year, but only we're playing Hawthorn, Richmond or North Melbourne. Davis and Medhurst to play out of the back pockets and Didak to play on Riewoldt next week.

Oh, sorry, I thought we were just throwing out random, unnecessary suggestions here.

I don't think there has been any outrageous suggestions here.

Bringing a fullback straight into the seniors and playing him at full forward, well that is in a word outrageous

So is playing J Cloke in the forward line.
So is playing Didak in the midfield.
Some things work, some don't.
Our tall forwards are terrible at the moment and have been questionable for some time.
Brown looks good when he goes forward, nothing outrageous about playing him there.

I was at the VFL today and N.Brown has become extremely skinny.

How much weight have they stripped off the kid? 15kg?

He is also really low on confidence. Not the same guy that was mouthing off J.Brown up in Brisbane.

They have to do something to re-invent the lad.

Kicked 50 goals last year and came 11th in the Coleman medal. I'd say he's pretty good at it. 80 from about 38 games. Yes, only 38 games.

Sending JA back is just not a good move. We have not had really accurate FF for years and we finally get one and people want to move him to defence.

If people want to bring in another KF and give him a try, I'm not against it, but not at the expense of JA.

I'm not against giving Reid another go forward. Looks good overhead and has speed to burn. It was 2008 when he last played forward against the Dogs, I think and was doing OK before breaking a foot. 2007 he looked very nervous in front of goals but he was an 18 year old kid that barely made the draft age back then. Some of his other games were OK for a 1st year, under-age KPP.

Travis, I'm just not sure what to do with him. His strength is his workrate, leading up the ground, but this is easy to quell by a mobile defender and the full ground presses leave little space to lead into. While he is a dodgy kick at goal, even though he nailed a beauty yesterday, I'd like him standing one out deep in the forward 50. He'll be too big & strong for most backman, if we can get it to him one out. I'd think the loose man in most sides defenses would be keeping a close eye on his match up.
