Not really clear to me why they're playing him at Sandy seniors. Feels disrespectful to Sandy to play a guy who's obviously limiting himself massively. As well as disrespectful to someone like Brenton Payne, who had to play thirds on the weekend because Freeman was in the seconds.

Surely we'd get the same result if he was running around at half pace in the Sandy reserves?
just let them sort it out themselves at stkilda and Sandringham, they would know better then us what to do.

I just want to see him play. Might have to wait til 2017 season then
I think Richo said earlier in the year Freeman won't be playing AFL this year.
Trust me we all really want to see him play as well. It's only been recently that this board has stopped saying he's never going to make it.
At this point we are happy that he is playing any footy at all.

He was kicking the ball but every kick was no more than 20m.
There was one bit of play where he must have forgotten that he wasn't allowed to go flat chat and it was like he pushed the turbo button and for about 5 metres he took off then put it back in 2nd gear.
Must be frustrating for him not to stride out but it's in his best interests.
A piece of play right in front of me where he was chasing a Willy player but he was only cruising and some muppet willy supporter was yelling out " c'mon Freeman chase him, dont do your hammy again" and at that moment the willy player was bouncing the ball and the ball went sideways and Freeman got it.
Quite a funny moment.
For those of us that haven't seen him play yet, can you see the potential from the limited work he is doing on field at the moment.

Fair point.
But they probably feel the pace of vfl reserves isn't doing him a great deal for long.

His game is his speed and power through stoppages.
Not happening atm.
True. Getting miles into the legs though.

Intensity seemed up on previous outings and I didnt see the last quarter where he came into it a bit, which is a good sign in itself as it means he is getting firter and his hammys are getting stronger

I saw Freezer play live against Port Melbourne and watched on TV against Casey. I didn't see any of the Willy game. To me he did not burst once not because he couldn't or because he was devoid of confidence but because he has been instructed not to by the medical department. Hamstrings are most vulnerable when running at high speed and running while bending over, particularly when fatigued. My old physio mentor used to say when people have chronic problems you need to get some little wins. After all he has been through in his first 3 years it appears to me that the medical staff have said lets just chuck him in but take away the risk of high speed running. It will give him some conditioning, get him some touch and most importantly get him playing some footy with his teammates - a (big) little win. If this is the case, it's not about finding the pill 46 times in 3 quarters and setting land speed records but about putting Nathan in the best possible position to attack the preseason having achieved something out of season 2016. I'm making this observation from afar but in my opinion, this is a really sound strategy.

Are we accepting this as a bust yet?
Can Freeman get back to 100% speed?
That was his strength.
Im starting to think we got dudded. Cant see him being an afl player. 3 years now with hammy issues. Surely thats too long now.

Just stop you idiot.
They said really early on there was going to be a lot of work getting him right , its not like you were waiting with baited breath for the two years he was at Collingwood.
Geelong waited for Menzel.
Dudded is the wrong word. They took a high risk , high reward option.
There are plenty of 2nd rounders from 2015 who have done nothing yet, and all of the 2016 ones haven't. Some of them never will.

Rumour is he's being traded back to Collingwood for Mason Cox

Surely someone can have an opinion on something on the forum, without being called names and called a troll.
Freeman has played a couple of games in 3years, I can understand why some think that the trade is a bust.

Given that we knew he hadn't played for Collingwood for 2 years, WHEN we traded him, why would you include that information in the reason you think the trade is a bust, unless you are actually an idiot.

Ha ha it's funny how everyone just wanted him on the park and now that he is so many want him to be Judd straight away. Just keep clean from now into the P/S and I'll be happy. Plenty of years to improve output.

It is all in between the ears for Freeman. His leg is fine, he just needs to learn to trust it again and let instinct kick in. He is quite mentally scarred from the last 3 years.
A time will come in the coming weeks when he forgets about his leg and takes the ball full flight and turns on the jets. It will likely happen by accident and will be the tonic he needs to believe in himself again.
He's playing inhibited footy at the moment and fair enough. But make no mistake the club are hoping his instinct kicks in and he sprints by accident. He will, maybe this week maybe next month.

I'm more confident that he'll be fine than ever. Whether he is an afl level player is a different story, but I'm confident he'll have the opportunity to find out.

I want Nathan Freeman to succeed as much as the next St Kilda supporter and/or Player Sponsor, however based on the performances of the past few weeks, there is no way he should be rushed and brought into the senior side this year.

Think your right only few more rds to go before the end of H&A season. Reason want to see him as in his draft year was compared to paddy Dangerfield because of his pace and burst out of pack speed. I wonder if it will haunt the pies down the track

Great to hear your insight from your physio mate

IIRC Rioli played at reduced explosiveness for a season or so after one of his set backs

It's only in the last couple of seasons that he's got back to his explosive best

It wont this year. He is not extending himself for pace at all. Just getting games into his legs. Play the rest of the year out a full preseason with no injuries and set for 2017.
