Huh... Just came back to re-live that glorious melt from gillo and now it's gone.

How disappointing... :(
I never got to see it. You didnt happen to get the minutes from the meeting? Would have made for a good read lol

I heard reports of 400+, could be wrong. You guys just think 'it's only 300k' but that's the difference in price between getting a good midfielder and an elite midfielder.
Why right him off. If Menzel can come back from was it 3 or 4 total knee reconstructions and play top end footy. Why cant Freeman come good from hamstring issues. Hes only 20yo. Only had 1 season with us.
And as far as his value is concerned. I'd still comfortably say that i'd take him ahead of any kid at pick 30 in this years draft. In any draft.
Did you see him before his issues. Top 7 in his draft year for sure. He is a jet.. when his legs come good. Youll see why we wanted him so bad.

It's not. But it's still money we are spending on Freeman that could have gone towards a more sure thing talent with less question marks over their head. How is what I'm saying so difficult to comprehend?

I get it. We all want Freeman to be a gun for us, obviously. I just don't see how you guys thinking spending 300k+++ on not only a guy who hasn't played senior football but hadn't played even a game in 2 years is a good thing? That's a lot of money for nothing.

For comparative purposes, that's someone like Robertons salary. And the difference between getting someone like Sidebottom or someone like Dustin Martin.

Saying 300k is nothing and happily pissing it away each year in the salary cap leaves a dint.

If Freeman works out I'll be more than happy. In saying that, even if he does get over his hamstring issues, which is a big if since it seems to be someone form of genetics problem, I still don't think he turns out the player that everyone is expecting him to be. But that's just my thoughts after watching him from his junior days. Again, would love for him to prove me wrong!!!

Which talent?
We have to spend a minimum amount on the list. We could give it to Nick, or FIsher or whatever, but it has to be spent. If we wanted it now for an elite talent and we were maxing out that would be different. But we aren't so attaching Freeman to our club is a no brainer.
If we get to the point where we are challenging, and Freeman is still flicking his hamstrings at the other kids, then we can pull the pin and throw money at the best 27 year old superstar in the league. But right now we are still building.

For examaple a safer contract would have been putting that 300-400k extra above Josh Kelly's market price. Which is already probably 500k a season. I would have happily offered 900k+ to a sure thing like Kelly over Freeman. But it's just hypotheticals at this stage.

I totally agree with that if Kelly was available... which he unfortunately wasn't.

You just need to be comfortable that the club did it's due diligence on Freeman, offered him a guaranteed contract to attract his attention & managed to prise him away from the Filth (who desperately wanted to keep him).

It's very early days in his development. I'd try to ignore the two lost seasons that he spent at Collingwood & look at him like a 1st year player who's had a few issues.

The $300K per year that Freeman is reportedly on had to be paid to someone... we could have just drafted a kid & saved $200K or got him into the club as a highly talented player who offers a skill set that we desperately need.

the money isn't an issue

I guess it's all about the risk/ reward factor. If you want to get ahead of the rest of the competition you sometimes have to take the risk. There are no guarantees, but you can't win the lottery if you don't buy a ticket.

Can someone just outline what gillo was saying
freeman should get a game or else its a waste
random pies fan says thats stupid
then random pies/blues sh!tfight

It really wasn't that exciting. Basically great suggestions like not playing Paddy for the rest of the year and... wait for it... Putting Freeman into the seniors for the rest of the season!

He's not a 6'7 Adonis who can bench a road train though like our erstwhile Essenscum mate from a couple of years ago though...

Will 4 games mean he can play finals now? Or no matter because he hasnt played higher anyway?
Hope he can let the hand brake off soon and get some confidence in his hammy if nothing else
He better or he wont be selected for finals. He is a liability to Sandringham at the moment.

OMG, I'd completely forgotten about that. Good times in dark times.

This. I'm not buying into the hype and setting myself up for disappointment like everyone else. Even pre-draft all he really had was exceptional clearance work and speed from stoppages. Take that away due to his hamstring issues and he doesn't have too many ground breaking traits left. He's never been a big time accumulator from memory. Was always touted as a mid first round pick, but I still believe Collingwood reached for him.

As with my slight criticisms on many Saints player (I often take the pessimistic point of view in the hopes that they do achieve greater than my expectations so I'm not let down) I am more than happy to be proven wrong.

His contract is also pretty bad. That can't be argued. Risk vs reward I guess. But that's a lot of coin that could have gone towards a sure thing.

I liken him more to Matt White than Judd or Dangerfield anyhow.
Ah, I fondly remember your previous incarnation's game predictions, when you would always - ALWAYS, no matter what - predict us to lose... in 2009!!! :D Damn funny.
